In addition, the model received two cameras at once - the main one with 0.69 megapixels. and frontal with resolution (640 x 480), gyroscope and dual-core processor.

Most other characteristics, except for a more powerful processor, remained at the same level. Visually, the gadget was distinguished by the edging of the Home button, which matched the color of the body.

So, even for the level of technology development at the end of 2010, the first Apple tablet was not impressive with its characteristics, to put it mildly. But already in March 2011, Apple introduced a new version of the iPad, in the description of which you can find many “2” numbers. The iPad 2 processor became 2-core, 2 times more RAM was installed (512 MB), and 2 cameras appeared at once with a resolution of 0.3 and 0.7 megapixels. In addition, Cellular models now supported the more popular MicroSIM cards, instead of the bulky standard ones.

In 2012, Apple also released a modified version of the iPad 2 with increased battery life, which was achieved through an improved Apple A5 processor (manufactured using a 32nm process) and a larger battery.

Six months later, in October 2012, another update awaited the line of Apple tablets. The iPad mini 2, also known as the iPad mini with Retina display, was introduced alongside the iPad Air on October 22, 2013. The compact version of the tablet was also equipped with a 62-bit Apple A7 chip and an M7 motion coprocessor, thus placing it on the same shelf as the top gadgets of its time.

iPad Pro 12.9 inches, third generation (2018)

The larger model has the same distinctive features as the 11-inch. In the mid-2000s, Steve Jobs came up with the idea of ​​ridding the computer of the keyboard. The idea was to make the buttons virtual and place them directly on the touch screen: “I asked our guys if we could offer a glass multi-touch display that you could type on, just put your hands on it and type.” However, when the prototype of a multi-touch screen with an inertial scrolling function was ready, it dawned on Jobs again - it was better to make a phone. The tablet project was shelved for several years and was only returned to after the release of the iPhone.

iPad


The first generation iPad was introduced in 2010. The device was very different from previously existing tablets. It was essentially an iPod touch on steroids: the same design and features, but for completely different purposes. The iPad was meant to sit between smartphones and laptops.

The first generation "tablet" had a screen diagonal of 9.7 inches, resolution - 1024x768 pixels. The A4 processor with a frequency of 1000 MHz was responsible for the performance; the amount of RAM was 256 MB. The device was produced either with Wi-Fi only, or with Wi-Fi and 3G modules. Built-in memory - 16, 32 or 64 GB.

Oddly enough, the tablet was received with caution. Some authorities were completely cool about the iPad. For example, Bill Gates said that without a physical keyboard and stylus, this is “a good e-reader and nothing more.” However, this did not affect sales: the iPad, like the iPhone, was swept off the shelves.


iPad 2


Apple showed iPad 2 in March 2011, a year after the presentation of the first tablet. By the second generation, Apple put the iPad on a diet: the tablet became 4.6 mm thinner, the version with Wi-Fi was 79 g lighter, and with Wi-Fi and 3G it was 117 g lighter. The processor became dual-core A5, the frequency did not change - 1 GHz. An important innovation was the appearance of cameras that were not present in the first generation tablet. iPad 2 has front and rear cameras. The amount of RAM has increased to 512 megabytes.

Interestingly, the model was produced for three years - until February 2014. iPad 2 supports the current version of the operating system, the tablet can be updated to iOS 8.

Third generation iPad


Unlike the iPhone, which continue to be assigned serial numbers, the iPad, starting from the third generation, lost the number in the name and became simply “New iPad.” For the third generation of the tablet, Apple has prepared a key change - a completely new screen with Retina technology. The pixel density has increased to 264 compared to 132 for its predecessors, and color saturation has almost doubled (by 44%). RAM has increased to 1 GB.


The tablet received a new dual-core A5X processor and a main 5-megapixel camera capable of shooting in Full HD resolution. Support for LTE networks has also appeared. At the same time, the iPad has become 0.8 mm thicker. Versions with Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G, as well as with memory modules of 16, 32 and 64 gigabytes, were still available.

fourth generation iPad


Introduced on October 23, 2012, the tablet was equipped with a more powerful dual-core A6X processor with a frequency of 1.4 GHz. The resolution of the front camera has increased to 1.2 megapixels, and support for 4G network bands has expanded. The amount of RAM was still 1 GB.

The fourth generation iPad received a new Lightning connector, which is equipped with all Apple mobile devices, instead of the previous 30-pin standard. In January 2013, the company introduced a model with 128 gigabytes of internal memory.

iPad mini

Along with the fourth generation of iPad, a smaller version of the tablet called iPad mini was shown in 2012. Its appearance was preceded by many rumors: from various leaks, almost all the characteristics became known even before the official announcement.

The iPad mini has a 7.9-inch screen with narrower side frames. The tablet could be grasped across the width with one hand. Unfortunately, the display was not Retina, the resolution was 1024x768 pixels. The model's characteristics are identical to the iPad 2.

iPad Air

The flagship iPad, shown in October 2013, received the Air prefix. With this name, Apple emphasized the lightness and thinness of the device: compared to the fourth-generation iPad, the Air is 16.2 mm narrower, 28% lighter and 2 mm thinner (20%). The side frames have become noticeably smaller, in keeping with the design of the iPad mini.

The Apple A7 processor still had two cores, but was based on a 64-bit architecture for the first time in an Apple tablet. The amount of RAM, as before, was 1 gigabyte.

iPad mini second generation

The second generation of iPad mini was presented simultaneously with the iPad Air. The changes compared to the first generation turned out to be significant: we have exactly the same iPad Air, only reduced to 7.9 inches. Almost all the hardware is identical, only the processor is 100 MHz slower - its clock speed is 1.3 GHz versus 1.4 GHz for the Air.

At the same presentation, Apple made an important announcement: iWork (analogous to MS Office) and iLife (includes iMovie, iPhoto, Garage Band) packages are now free for all devices.

Today Apple will show updated iPads. It is known that the tablets will be called iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 and will again become a little thinner and lighter, they will have a new processor and a fingerprint scanner.
