As soon as the announcement of this tablet appeared in the media, I immediately received several letters from our readers asking me to review it. The model really came out very balanced in terms of price-performance ratio, so it’s definitely worth talking about.

Appearance, materials, control elements, assembly

In terms of appearance, the Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L does not have enough stars in the sky; it is a typical ten-inch Android tablet with slightly rounded corners and a black frame around the display.



On the front side there is a peephole of the front 5 MP camera and a light indicator (there is no light sensor).


On the left there is a volume rocker and a power button, as well as a microUSB port. At the top end there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack, at the bottom there is a speaking microphone hole for Skype and other programs.



The back cover is made of matte smooth plastic with a soft-touch coating. Thanks to it, the tablet is comfortable to hold in your hands, but it is important to remember that such material collects fingerprints very well. By the way, there is a flap at the back, under which slots for a memory card and a microSIM card are hidden.



You can also see the stereo speakers and the main camera peephole. This model has support for Dolby Atmos technology, and if we talk about the sound, it is really very good here, both in terms of volume and sound quality; the tablet will perfectly replace an inexpensive wireless speaker.


Two versions of the tablet will be available for sale: white and dark blue; we tested the latter.



Regarding the assembly, I noticed one thing about my sample: apparently, there is a small empty space between the lid and the insides, so if you press hard on it, you will feel it press down slightly. This cannot be called a serious drawback, especially since in normal use scenarios you are unlikely to notice it.

Dimensions

In addition to the increase in resolution and productivity of tablets, their dimensions are also decreasing every year, this is especially noticeable in terms of weight. Just a couple of years ago, a figure of 600-700 grams was considered the norm, but already in 2014-2015 it shifted to 450-500 grams, and Lenovo with its 509 grams looks great compared to its competitors.



It is convenient to hold the tablet for a long time with either one or two hands. As for the thickness, it is, of course, not at the level of the leaders, but this model did not seem thick to me either.



Screen

One of the key advantages of this tablet is its excellent quality display. It is important to note that few well-known manufacturers can offer you a ten-inch tablet with FHD resolution and an IPS matrix in the segment under 20,000 rubles.

And the screen in the Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70L is really good: viewing angles close to maximum, a wide range of brightness and good behavior in the sun. At the same time, thanks to the FHD resolution, it is very comfortable to read from the tablet; even small text looks very clear.

There is also an oleophobic coating, although not as good as, for example, in the same Apple iPad Air or Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5. The finger glides well across the display, but fingerprints are not wiped off as quickly as with the indicated models.

The tablet runs Android 4.4.4 and Lenovo's proprietary Vibe UI shell. There are rumors online that the model will be updated to Android 5.0, but keep in mind that rumors are not always confirmed. Performance

In everyday use there are no complaints about the tablet. Tables are scrolled through quickly, the browser works without lag, and applications do not stutter.

But the situation with games is not so good. Although Asphalt 8 runs at maximum settings, drops in FPS are visible to the naked eye. This is worth considering if you plan to use the tablet for the most productive toys.




Another plus of the tablet is the location of the chipset; even in productive games you will hardly feel the heat, since only the upper half of the back cover heats up.

Autonomous operation

In our synthetic tests, the tablet shows simply excellent operating time, this applies to both watching videos and reading. With everyday use, you can safely count on 4-5 days of work, depending on the intensity of use of the tablet.

Camera

The tablet has a main 8 MP camera and a front 5 MP camera. Despite the high resolution, pictures from the main camera are of very average quality, you can see this for yourself in the examples below. The device records video in FHD resolution. As for the front camera, it is typical for such devices; in Skype, for example, there is not much difference with 2 MP cameras.

Wireless interfaces

The presence of dual-band Wi-Fi has already become a common attribute of the mid-range tablet segment, as well as LTE support. But the relatively fast (for the MediaTek chipset) start of GPS was pleasantly pleasing, as was the presence of USB-OTG. By the way, the device does not support voice calls, and this is clearly an artificial limitation.

Accessories

I saw that you can buy a branded accessory for the tablet for 2,200 rubles. Keep in mind that the option without a keyboard costs this money; if you want a case with the same keyboard, you will have to pay about 5,000 rubles, which does not look like such an interesting offer.


Conclusion

At retail, the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 version with LTE and 16 GB of internal memory sells for 18,000 rubles. For this money you get a fast tablet with an excellent display, very good stereo speakers, relatively light weight and LTE support. The only downsides I can highlight are the lack of voice calls and stuttering in Asphalt 8.

At the moment, this model has no direct competitors. None of the major brands will offer you a ten-inch tablet with FHD resolution and LTE support; there are only a few older models (the same Asus MeMO Pad 10 FHD), which have almost disappeared from the shelves of large retail chains. You can remember the Chinese, but it’s definitely not worth comparing them with the large Lenovo. And modern flagships like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5, although they outperform this model, are also significantly more expensive.

As a result, Lenovo turned out to be a good tablet with an excellent price-performance ratio without any significant drawbacks. If you are looking for a ten-inch Android tablet in the segment under 20,000 rubles, then I can confidently recommend this model.

Lenovo is well known for not shying away from experimenting with design, including tablets. And her Yoga series was completely copied by numerous compassionate Chinese who wanted to offer the market something original. However, the Tab 2 A10-70 has a classic appearance.

The design of the tablet is completely calm, without any “aerodynamic” bends, strange shapes, structures or grips. In fact, this is a typical rectangle with a screen.


However, it still turned out stylish. A sort of stylish white business tool. There are also black and blue options, but we liked the white one more than the others. He looks more noble or something. Although Lenovo did not follow the fashion trend of narrowing the frame around the display.


The back cover has a matte soft-touch coating. It is flat and only sloping at the edges to make the tablet more comfortable to hold in your hands. The Lenovo inscription is engraved in the center, but the main “decoration” here is the perforation on the sides of the camera lens. There are speakers underneath, but this design itself is quite decent.


Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L is made of plastic, but this does not prevent it from being of high quality. The device is really well designed, all the panels fit well together. But this was not difficult to achieve due to the non-separable case - we have not yet seen anything else in tablets.


At the same time, the product from Lenovo cannot boast of light weight or thickness. They are respectively 509 grams and 8.9 mm. If we compare it with the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7, then its parameters are 453 grams and 7.5 mm. The difference is not critical, but it is there. In general, the weight of the Tab 2 A10-70L is felt, although it cannot be said that the hands get tired from long-term use. In any case, you are unlikely to work with a 10-inch tablet on the go.

In general, we liked the appearance and quality of the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L. In terms of dimensions and weight, it does not set records, but everything here is quite acceptable.

Connectors and controls

Although the tablet is noticeably larger than a smartphone, it has the same number of controls, and sometimes even fewer. In addition, the tablet cannot be disassembled.


At the head of the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L there is a front camera lens and that’s it. There are no light or proximity sensors, or a speaker like a phone, so you don’t have to hold the tablet to your ear.


At the rear, two elements are of interest. The first is the rear camera, the lens of which is surrounded by a metal rim. There is no flash - photo capabilities, like many tablets, are limited here.


The second element is the Dolby nameplate to the right of the camera. We guess there's no need to explain what this says about the corresponding audio enhancements applied to the Tab 2 A10. The speakers themselves are located on the sides of the camera under the perforations.

At the top end of the tablet there is a 3.5 mm mini-jack for headphones and headsets.


A microphone was placed on the lower side.


On the left are the power button, volume rocker, microUSB connector for charging, and a flap above the card compartments.


The right end was left empty.


The memory card and SIM card are inserted on the left - they are hidden behind a hinged lid. The tablet works with microSIM and microSD. To install, you just need to push them in the right direction. But if there are difficulties with this, our short video will help resolve the issue:

In terms of ergonomics, the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L is generally comfortable and does not cause any complaints.

Contents of delivery

The Lenovo tablet came to us fully equipped.


The device is supplied in a small elongated box made of pressed cardboard.


Inside, in addition to the Tab 2 A10 itself, there is a user manual, a cable for connecting to a charger or computer, and the charger itself. No headphones or headsets. While talking on a tablet may be difficult—it doesn't support voice calls over a mobile network—it's easier to listen to music or watch videos with headphones.

Case for Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70

Buying a case or cover for the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 turned out to be quite simple - there are quite a lot of them released.


In the simplest version, you can find a fleece bag case for the Tab 2 A10-70 tablet. This one sells for 1000 rubles.


A leather bag will cost 1,500 rubles. Although it is one and a half times more expensive, it looks much more solid.


The cover case will cost about 1,500 rubles. In addition, the cover can serve as a stand.

Screen

Obviously, the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 does not belong to the budget category, and therefore it is logical to expect from it a screen that at least fits the epithet “decent”. Let's say more - in this matter, the Chinese company even has a chance to stand out, since the competing Galaxy Tab A 9.7 has a very modest display resolution - 1024x768 pixels. And Lenovo took advantage of this chance.

The tablet offers a working resolution of 1920x1200, which provides a decent pixel density of 218 ppi for devices of this class. This resolution was often used in flagship products 2-3 years ago, and then they moved to 2560x1600 or 2048x1536. Meanwhile, more affordable solutions offer a resolution of 1024x768 or 1280x800, and sometimes middle-class tablets like the aforementioned Galaxy Tab A flaunt this. The Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 looks much better with its screen against its background.

Speaking subjectively, the screen of the Lenovo tablet left a pleasant impression. Good IPS matrix, wide viewing angles, natural color rendition, behaves well in the sun. Compared to the 9.7-inch Galaxy Tab A, which we've seen a few times, the picture is noticeably sharper and less grainy. Of course, the Chinese device is far from the quality of the Galaxy Tab S or Tab S2, but it does not compete with them at all.

Maximum brightness was measured at 380.56 cd/m2, which is decent enough for a tablet. A comfortable brightness level is achieved by setting the slider somewhere around 30-40% of the maximum. It should also be noted that the black color of the screen is quite deep - at full brightness it shines at only 0.33 cd/m2, that is, it does not look very “gray”. The final contrast is 1153:1.


The screen's color gamut almost completely covered the sRGB space, so you don't have to worry about accurate color reproduction.


The color temperature turned out to be too high, at about the same level as most other smartphones and tablets - 8000K. But the image doesn't look too cold, so everything is fine.


The gamma curve does not look very smooth, although there is no serious deviation. In other words, although part of the picture appears darker or lighter than the standard, this will not be very noticeable to the eye.


The screen recognizes up to 10 simultaneous touches, which is not surprising - it is clearly not cheap, like the tablet itself. In addition, on a 10-inch display, the ability to work with both hands is most important.


The screen settings page turned out to be generally normal, with the exception of the MiraVision section.



Going inside, it turned out that this was a special application for setting up the display.







The application allows you to select a standard color profile, or configure image parameters yourself. Saturation, contrast, brightness, color temperature (white balance) and sharpness can be adjusted.

Despite some strangeness in the gamma curve graph, the screen of the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70 is generally good, with a pleasing picture, wide viewing angles and special software that allows you to adjust the image to your liking.

Camera

Regarding the camera in the Tab 2 A10-70, Lenovo made a certain compromise. 8 MP resolution is not the smallest, but by modern standards it cannot be called large either. Although, again, the number of megapixels does not mean their quality, and this is a tablet. And among other things, there is no flash.




The camera application is not standard, but part of the proprietary Vibe UI shell. However, it looks very similar to the one that is included in Android. Lenovo just added a couple of additional modes and redrew the settings.



You can apply filters in real time.



Settings allow you to specify white balance, set exposure and change other parameters.


The maximum photo resolution, according to the settings, is 10 MP. However, the official website says 8 MP. And we received pictures with a resolution of 8 MP.






The quality of the shooting is generally normal, and in some places good. The frames are not overexposed, the white balance is correct, and even the image sharpness is often good. The only exception is that in poor lighting conditions the pictures come out blurry, but this is a common occurrence.


The maximum video recording resolution is 1920x1080, which for some reason is designated as “Best”.

The video looks good, much like the photo: the white balance is determined correctly, the footage is clear.


The resolution of the front camera is 5 MP, which is very good for a tablet - in fact, at the level of modern selfie phones!



There is only one problem with the front sensor - white balance is not always determined correctly. But besides this, the pictures come out very well.


The video resolution of the front camera can be “Low” or “High”. Behind the “high” is a modest value of 640x480 pixels. Somehow it’s not at all respectable against the backdrop of a 5 MP sensor - 1280x720 could easily be provided!

The video quality is generally good, but the VGA resolution spoils everything.

In total, we were more than satisfied with the cameras of the Lenovo tablet. These are, of course, not market leaders, but for a tablet everything is very, very decent.

Specifications Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70

If we take the fall of 2015, then Lenovo in this time period produces three tablets within the A series: Tab 2 A7-30, Tab 2 A8-50 and Tab 2 A10-70. It’s not difficult to guess that they differ from each other in screen diagonal, and in addition to this, resolution, processors, and system. So the 7-inch model will not receive Android 5.0, while the 10-inch model already has it, and the 8-inch model comes with it initially.


More specifically about our A10-70, it is available in two versions: A70-70F and A10-70L. The first is based on the MediaTek MT8165 chip, and the second is MT8732, which differ only in the presence of an LTE module in the second.



There is simply no other difference - the processors have the same frequency of 1.7 GHz, four Cortex-A53 cores, as well as a Mali-T760 MP2 video card operating at a frequency of up to 500 MHz. In general, all this looks like a “strong average”, just like the Galaxy Tab A with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 410. In terms of performance, these devices are very close to each other, even in terms of communication - LTE category 4 (up to 150 Mbit/s) is supported both.


The amount of RAM is 2 GB, which may not be a record amount, but not bad for a relatively affordable product. It’s nice that Lenovo didn’t skimp here, as well as on the built-in flash memory, installing it at 16 GB. At the same time, expansion with microSD cards up to 64 GB is available.

We cannot say anything else about the characteristics of the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L - the main thing has been commented on. It can only be noted that this tablet is superior to the Galaxy Tab A 9.7 in terms of camera and battery capacity. So the Samsung device looks somewhat “ugly” against its background. Let's see how their performance stands.

Performance testing

So, the results of testing two large tablets: Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L and Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0. Yes, the second one is not so “big”, but other than the screen diagonal, it does not differ at all from the 9.7-inch model. Before moving on to the tests, we note that the product from Lenovo looks more promising: it has a higher frequency processor and a better video card, but at the same time it has a higher screen resolution, which also affects performance.


The old Smartbench 2012 test showed the superiority of the Lenovo tablet - as expected.


But the Quadrant benchmark was somewhat to the taste of Samsung, although the difference between them is not very significant.


The new popular Antutu test, which can take advantage of all the advantages of modern processors, clearly gave the victory to the Lenovo tablet.


And the Chrome browser, judging by the SunSpider JavaScript test, is of the same opinion.


In the old game electopia, both tablets squeezed the most out of it - the framerate was limited by VSync, which does not exceed 60 FPS.


3DRating shows an advantage on Lenovo's side, but not very noticeable. It's interesting to look at other 3D tests.


Here you go - both very serious 3D benchmarks remained behind the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L, and even with a two-fold lead!


The results of autonomy turned out to be extremely interesting if . The Galaxy Tab A 9.7 has a smaller 6000 mAh battery, while the Lenovo device has a 7000 mAh battery. And at the same time, both retained a very decent battery charge after completing all the tasks. What consumes the most energy?


As always, this is a screen, and at the same time resource-intensive tasks such as games and surfing via a mobile network. The most interesting thing is that video is not so power-hungry, so the Lenovo tablet performs this function very well.


The tablet also has an extreme power saving mode that allows you to save battery power if there is very little left.

Overall, the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L is a really fast tablet in its price range. It is noticeably superior to its direct competitor Samsung, which is an excellent recommendation. At the same time, it provides good autonomy, which is also a significant plus.

Games on Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L

You saw the results in 3D tests in the last section, so you can expect the same “agility” from the Lenovo tablet in games.

Well, that's how it is. All games, despite the high screen resolution, launched without problems and did not slow down at all. There is not even a reduction in graphics quality to increase the FPS level. In other words, a Chinese tablet is well suited for this method of spending leisure time.

The Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L came to us pre-installed, which looked a little strange against the backdrop of everything else, and the tablet itself is not cheap, and the 8-inch Lenovo Tab 2 A8-50 had this very “fifth Android” at its disposal.


However, upon entering the settings section, it was nice to see a message about the availability of an update. At first it was a minor update, but after installing it it became possible to download Android 5.0. This is all over the air, without any third-party tools or connecting the tablet to the computer.




When we first turned on the tablet, we saw just such a desktop. This is classic Android 4.4 with Lenovo Vibe UI on top. Here, as is done on the company’s smartphones, the shortcut bar for applications is displayed at the bottom, and their general list is located on the desktops - it is not separated from widgets.



However, in Android 5, the manufacturer decided to change its approach - now desktops are separated from the list of all applications. All this has become noticeably more reminiscent of classic Android 5, which is especially evident in the design of the Google folder.



The list of all applications looks completely normal - there are 30 of them displayed on one screen and they can be changed by horizontally swiping.



The notification panel and the quick settings panel combined with it are also almost no different from the one that comes in the “naked robot”. The settings panel has only been slightly redrawn.


Lenovo did not touch the list of recent applications at all - they are displayed in the form of tabs.


There are no special settings on the tablet, and the standard ones are only slightly redrawn. They have their own icons, and the sections are displayed in two lists. Only the screen has advanced configuration options, which we described above in the corresponding section.



The tablet received a standard set of proprietary Lenovo applications, one of which is the SYNCit synchronization program. It can save your data to the cloud.




SHAREit and CLONEit are used to exchange data with various devices - smartphones, tablets or computers.



Lenovo did not limit itself to just installing the Dolby nameplate on the tablet body - it has a special Dolby Atmos application for fine-tuning the sound. Here you can either select a ready-made profile or set your own.



There is a games store. True, we didn’t see any famous titles here.



Another potentially useful application, or rather a client of the service, is a book store.





There are also standard utilities such as a calendar, calculator, timer, world clock, alarm clock and stopwatch.


From a software point of view, we are quite happy with the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L - it is a high-quality tablet with a modern system and a good set of software, both proprietary and third-party. At the same time, the interface works quickly and without glitches - those who updated to Android 5.0 complained about the latter. We don’t know what they have there, but we didn’t notice any degradation in the quality of the device.

The only thing that somewhat blurs the impression is that it is not possible to make calls via the cellular network. Let us remind you that the device is equipped with a 2G/3G/4G communication module, so theoretically it supports everything, but this function is blocked. It is not clear why Lenovo decided to be like Apple with its iPad - full calls are available on the same Samsung Galaxy Tab tablets.

Conclusion

We liked the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L tablet. For its money, it offers excellent functionality and high performance, as well as high-quality workmanship and even a design that is pleasing to the eye. The device really has a lot of advantages, the main ones being a high-resolution screen, a good processor, and decent battery life.

Separately, it should be noted that it is possible to upgrade to Android 5.0. On the one hand, it would be strange to see a 2015 tablet on an older version of the system, but Lenovo got its bearings in time and released an update. The shell has received a refreshed design and support for modern technologies.

We're more satisfied with the tablet's camera. It takes decent pictures in good lighting conditions, and the video it produces is quite good. The lack of flash is disappointing, but a 10-inch tablet is not a device with which you will go everywhere and take pictures of everything. But the video resolution of the front camera could still be made 1280x720.

The Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L has no serious disadvantages. We have just announced one of them - low resolution video shooting from the front camera. The second drawback is that it is not possible to make calls over the mobile network, despite the presence of the corresponding module. It’s clear that few people use this on a tablet, but still, why give up this function?

But the best thing about the Lenovo tablet is its price.

Price Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L

You can buy Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L for 18 thousand rubles. The price is quite small, you will agree. For that kind of money with similar characteristics, and even from a well-known brand, you simply won’t find anything. In general, the segment of tablets costing more than 15 thousand rubles with a diagonal of 9-10" is practically empty. In addition to the product reviewed, we found only one analogue, which was mentioned more than once above.


Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7 sells for 21 thousand rubles, if you take the 4G version, while the Wi-Fi-only version is available for 19 thousand. The tablet comes with Android 5.0 out of the box, has 1.5 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal flash memory, 5 MP main camera and 2 MP front camera. But what is most depressing is the low resolution of the 9.7-inch PLS screen (analogous to the IPS matrix from Samsung) - 1024x768 pixels. You don't have to be an expert to see that it lags behind the Lenovo Tab 2 A10-70L in almost all respects.

We couldn’t find any other competitors, especially at about the same price. Samsung Galaxy Tab E costs 16 thousand, but it is noticeably worse in all respects. ASUS ZenPad 10 looks good, but it also costs a step lower, considering its price of 12 thousand rubles. A step higher relative to the Lenovo tablet are devices from 28-30 thousand rubles, such as the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7, Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet and Apple iPad Air of both generations.

Recently getting acquainted with the Lenovo Tab 2 a10-70 tablet, we found out for ourselves that this device deserves at least a more detailed acquaintance; in the end, we spent several days getting acquainted with this device before returning it to the store. So, the first thing that catches your eye is the large, 10-inch screen with pretty good color reproduction, watching movies on such a screen is just a pleasure, the same can be said about games, as we have a modern graphics core and 2 GB of RAM on board and a 4 core processor of 1700 MHz. What is noteworthy is that the appearance is quite pleasant; we also add that the tablet is pleasant to the touch, but a little heavy, this is noted not only by us, but also by the majority of users of this device. The price of the tablet is quite affordable; compared with other brands, one might even say it’s understated. In general, the device leaves only positive reviews, although diluted with some disadvantages - a short charging cord and a creaking back of the tablet. It is worth mentioning that the device itself is quite dirty, which is a little frustrating.

    Android 5 - fhd screen - good processor and graphics - a really working smart flip with an appropriate case - the battery lasts a really long time under heavy load and minimal backlighting - about 7 hours. Movies will play even longer if you run them with hardware support.

    Weight, I wish it was a little lighter
    - the screen glass collects fingerprints well.
    - the Wi-Fi module is rather weak, where others seem to confidently catch the network, this tablet periodically loses. But somehow not always. In general, it’s not clear with Wi-Fi, you have to look at it individually.
    - the power button and volume rocker would probably be better on the right. For some reason my hand always reaches out to press on the right.
    All of the listed disadvantages are quite conditional and not critical.

    The first thing that caught my eye was the disgusting color rendering in games - it turns red and yellow. You can get used to it. Don’t tune in with the built-in miravision program, everything remains disgustingly yellowish red warm
    - on the fifth android, wifi freezes and can be treated by turning it on and off. Doesn't bother me.
    - the buttons are incredibly tight, clearly not made for people.
    - the screen is not glass, but definitely hard plastic, and it’s not that good, but it’s better than it was in old tablets
    - there are simply no connectors - headphones and MicroUSB
