Manually adjusting textures in fallout 4.

They talked about solving problems associated with downloading, installing and crashing the game in the first stages after launch. Having solved such problems, some users continue to encounter crashes, freezes, glitches and problems directly while playing the game. In today's article, we have collected several more effective solutions for the most common errors and glitches in Fallout 4.

What should you do if, at one stage in Fallout 4, the entire picture on the screen turns greenish, becomes black and white, or blurry at the edges?

While playing the game, in various episodes, users notice that the image on the display has acquired a distinct greenish tint. Some users, on the contrary, observe an almost complete disappearance of colors and the picture becomes close to black and white. Also at these moments, along the edges of the image, the picture may lose clarity and become extremely blurry and illegible.

This is due to freezing of individual filters in the game and can be eliminated using special text commands:

  • To eliminate the green tint, open the console in the game and enter the command rimod 00094636.
  • To reset the colors and return the image to clarity, enter the command rimod 002041B6 in the console.

The effect of the entered commands will be visible instantly.

What should I do if I can't connect the Pip-Boy mobile app to Fallout 4?

For the first time, to coincide with the release of the game Fallout 4, Bethesda studio released the Pip-Boy mobile application for iOS And Android. This is a companion app for the main game that helps you view game statistics, displays some notifications, simulates the operation of a game console, and also contains a mini-game.

Some users have encountered problems when trying to connect the Pip-Boy mobile app to the main Fallout 4 game.

In order to successfully connect, you need to follow a small procedure and meet some additional conditions:

  • Before launching Fallout 4 on your PC, disable the active mode of your antivirus software.
  • Add the game to your antivirus and Windows firewall exceptions.
  • Launch the game and enable mobile app support in Settings.
  • After that, open the application on your mobile device and search for the game. Keep in mind that both your PC and mobile device must be on the same Wi-Fi network for a successful connection.

What should I do if Fallout 4 crashes during the Hunter/Hunter mission?

The objective of the Hunter/Hunter mission is to find the hunter and remove the chip from his body. But most players fail to complete this location, because after completing 50% of the mission, the game simply crashes without reporting any errors. This happens most often during the clearing of one of the buildings in a given location.

It is not yet possible to fully solve this problem and, most likely, it will be fixed with the help of a fix from the developers themselves, but it is possible to bypass it and continue playing.

To do this, you need to open the game console during the Hunter/Victim mission and enter the command player.moveto 00064dfc. This will allow your character to get to the very end of the mission, bypassing all obstacles and skipping the crash moment. After that, open the console again and enter the command setstage 000229eb 30. It will make that same Hunter appear next to you. Just kill him, remove the chip from his body and continue as normal.

What to do if in the gameIn Fallout 4, in some settlements, the parameters of protection, water, etc. are lost?

After players adjust the parameters of some settlements and then leave them, you may notice that the parameters have decreased, or even dropped to zero. At the same time, as a result, the character’s happiness indicator drops. There is no official solution to the problem yet, but some users have noticed a small pattern:

If you remove all the beds in the settlement and completely remove the protection, then sit on a chair for two or three hours and return all the objects to the settlement, but placing them differently from how they were before, the problem with randomly changing parameters no longer appears.

What to do if in the gameFallout 4 image became white and blurry, looking like a negative?

After loading the last save again, you can find that many objects, the area around and even plants and earth, have become completely white. In this case, a significant decrease in picture clarity may also be observed, which makes the passage almost impossible.

If such a problem occurs, the first thing you should definitely do is check for a more recent version of the video card or GPU drivers. To do this, go to the manufacturer’s website or use special software.

If the update does not give the desired result, go to the graphics settings in the game and check the values of additional effects (reflection, humidity, volume rain, glare, etc.). Depending on the video card model and the version of installed drivers, enabling or disabling these options may help. After changing the values, be sure to restart the game.

What to do if, when passingFallout 4 character suddenly began to look strange and even ugly?

If, while playing Fallout 4, you used a code that gives immortality to your character, an unusual bug may occur. In those conditions where your character should die, perish, explode, burn, etc., he still remains alive, but, depending on the circumstances, his body may remain mutilated. For example, if he fell into lava.

In order to get rid of this problem and return the character to its original state and beauty, you need to do the following:

  • First, remove all important items from your luggage.
  • Then open the game console and enter the command unequipall. This will return your character to its original state, both in terms of appearance and equipment. Everything will disappear, even Pip-Boy.
  • Open the console again and enter the recycleactor command. This will return the character's clothes and other stuff, but you will have to dress him again.

There are cases when the second command does not return everything that your character had before the restoration procedure. This is why it is so important to first remove all valuables from your luggage.

What should I do if the game Fallout 4 does not detect the video card model, starts at minimum settings, or refuses to start at all?

Depending on the video card or GPU model, Fallout 4 may not always correctly detect the graphics configuration and run automatically at minimum settings. The game is not yet able to automatically detect some types of video cards. This leads to a serious decrease in image quality, a critical drop in the FPS level, or a complete failure of the game to launch and work correctly.

To resolve this issue, make sure your graphics card is using the most recent drivers, and then perform additional manual adjustments to help the game detect your graphics card model:

  • Open the game's root folder and locate the configuration file named Fallout4Prefs.ini.
  • Find the sD3DDevice parameter and enter the model of your video card in this line. For example, sD3DDevice=”NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970”
  • Save your changes and restart the game.

Please note that Fallout 4 is only compatible with video cards that support DirectX 11. If your model does not have such support, the game is not guaranteed to work correctly or even run on your PC.

What should I do if in the game Fallout 4 all the characters are displayed extremely blurry and consist of large pixels?

If, after launching Fallout 4 at maximum graphics settings, you find that all the characters are displayed using large pixels, despite all the scenery and objects looking quite clear, you will need to do a small manual edit of the game system files, described below:

  • Go to My Documents > My games > Fallout 4 and find the prefs.ini configuration file.
  • Find and edit two parameters - iVolumetricLightingQuality and bVolumetricLightingEnable. Set them to 0 after the equal sign.
  • After that, go to the root folder of the game and find the Fallout4Prefs.ini file there.
  • Open the file using Notepad.
  • Find and edit the bVolumetricLightingEnable parameter in it, setting its value to 0 after the “equal” sign.
  • Save your changes and close the document.
  • Restart the game and check the graphics quality.

After this procedure, these settings may be lost the next time you restart the game. If this happens on your system, change the settings again and set each of these files to “Read Only” by right-clicking the Properties menu.

What should I do if my Pip-Boy in Fallout 4 has a dirty screen and I can't clean it?

There is no official solution for this problem yet, but you can use custom textures. Installing them will help modify standard textures and activate the “Clean Screen” option.

To do this, follow these simple steps:

  • Download a small archive at this link.
  • Go to My Documents > My games > Fallout 4 and find the Fallout4.ini configuration file.
  • Find the parameter sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\ and add the value TEXTURES\ separated by commas. As a result, it should look like this: sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, TEXTURES\

On November 10, the long-awaited game was released on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and comparative performance tests on various configurations of personal computers are gradually beginning to appear.

In this article, the guys from gamersnexus.net analyzed the performance of the game Fallout 4 on various Nvidia and AMD video cards, including the GTX 750 Ti, 960, 970, 270X, 285, 390X models. The game's consumption of RAM and video memory is also examined.

Since tools for developing mods for Fallout 4 have not yet been released, the graphical performance of the "pure" version of Fallout 4 is taken as a basis.

Graphics Settings

The graphics settings in Fallout 4 are quite simple. Any gamer familiar with the games Skyrim, Fallout 3 or New Vegas is also familiar with the Fallout 4 engine, available screen settings and graphics options. Since the engine is the same as Skyrim, the .ini files contain many of the same settings, so the changes to these files are largely identical.

Here's a quick look at what these settings mean and how they can help you.

Anti-Aliasing: Processing of homogeneous objects and texture boundaries by multiple pixel sampling. TAA and FXAA (Fast approXimate AA) anti-aliasing methods are available. The FXAA method was present in Skyrim and remains the same in Fallout 4. Players complaining about blurriness should ensure that the FXAA setting is disabled.

Anisotropic Filtering: A texture filtering technique that ensures textures are applied more uniformly to vanishing points. An example would be a road with a dotted white line in the middle: more anisotropic filtering will ensure that the dotted line remains the same until the very end, until the point where the road disappears. Turning AF off means the line will become blurrier and jagged.

Detail: low, medium, high and ultra. The "Advanced" tab gives access to individual options.

View Mode: Windowed, full screen and borderless mode.

Texture Quality: Sets the resolution of object textures. Lower quality values eliminate grain and create apparent depth and finer detail on surfaces. Inscriptions, for example, instead of being clear when texture quality is high, can turn into blurry when texture quality is low. This is true for most games with texture resolution scaling.

Shadow Quality: Resolution and detail of shadows of objects in the game. Fallout 4 does not have the high level of shadow detail found in some other games, even at the Ultra detail level, and does not render shadows for most objects and static elements. Increasing shadow quality will smooth out shadow edges and reduce the effects of "moving pixels" when a dynamic object casts a shadow at the expense of additional GPU cycles.

Shadow Distance: The distance at which shadows are shown. Shadows appear and disappear depending on the distance of objects from the player character. Lowering this setting will improve performance, especially in large game areas with many shadow-casting objects.

Decal Quality: Decals are “stickers” that are applied to the environment or objects in the game. Blood, bullet holes, scorched earth from explosives are examples. Changing this setting determines how long these “stickers” are visible and how many of them accumulate, as well as their detail.

Lighting Quality: Changes the accuracy of cascading effects and lights.

Godrays quality: quality, quantity and presence of light rays falling from above, in particular, their connection with light passing through objects - through translucent surfaces (windows), dense objects (tree branches), etc.

Depth of Field: Applies a bokeh effect to an area of the screen that is considered to be outside the player character's focus.

Ambient Occlusion: Controls the light and shading of adjacent surfaces. Most noticeable on the underside of leaves and plants. Turning it off will remove a significant amount of shadow from the game, which is already lacking, and will simplify the interaction of light with some materials and adjacent surfaces.

Screen Space Reflections: switch. These reflections (controlled in part by occlusion) occur when light interacts with reflective materials - metals, glossy finishes, windows, etc.

Wetness: switch. Enables or disables the effect of "wet" objects after they interact with liquid. When turned on, the surface of objects shines.

Rain Occlusion: Disable it if the game starts to slow down during various weather conditions, such as rain. Determines whether rain is subject to occlusion effects.

Motion Blur effect: The name speaks for itself.

Lens Flare: Director Michael Bay's favorite effect. A switch that turns glare on or off when the camera is at a certain angle to light sources.

Object Fade: The distance at which non-living objects (not characters) such as signs, trash cans, or other non-game elements begin to appear or disappear from view.

Actor Fade: The distance at which characters (NPCs) begin to appear or disappear from view.

Grass Fade: Same as two points above, but for grass. Reduce if the game starts to slow down when traveling through hills and grassy wastelands.

Item Fade: the distance at which game objects begin to appear or disappear from view.

Distant Object Detail: Increasing this setting can increase the geometric complexity (mesh quality) of objects away from the player.

Object Detail Fade: How quickly smaller details of objects, but not the object itself, disappear from the player's field of view. Scaling the level of detail allows the object to remain in view without completely disappearing.

Testing methodology

The following components were used for testing:

  • processor - Intel i7-5930K;
  • CPU cooling - NZXT Kraken X41 CLC;
  • RAM – Kingston 16GB DDR4 Predator;
  • motherboard - EVGA X99 Classified;
  • power supply - NZXT HALE90 V2 1200 W;
  • SSD - HyperX Savage SSD;
  • housing - Top Deck Tech Station.

Nvidia has released Fallout 4-optimized drivers for its video cards; AMD cards used the latest driver versions (Catalyst 15.11 beta). Graphics settings were set to Ultra, Medium and Low at 1080p, 1440p and 4K resolutions.

Each scenario was tested identically for 30 seconds three times. Testing was carried out in the Diamond City location, the first large settlement in the game (You can read about it in). We selected a part of the city that placed more stress on the video cards, so in some cases the performance of different configurations differed by 60%. This means that Diamond City is poorly optimized for mixed load cases. Testing began with viewing a part of the city densely loaded with characters, then the camera moved to quieter places. The process is shown in the video provided.

The average number of frames per second (fps) was measured; the lower and upper values are not shown. Instead, the average values of the bottom 1% of results (1% Low) and the average values of the bottom 0.1% of results (0.1% Low) are taken.

The following video cards were tested:

  • MSI R9 390X Gaming 8 GB;
  • PowerColor R9 290X 4 GB;
  • XFX R9 285 2 GB;
  • AMD R9 270X 2 GB;
  • ASUS R7 250X 1 GB;
  • NVidia GTX 980 Ti 6 GB;
  • MSI GTX 980 4GB Gaming;
  • EVGA GTX 970 SSC 4 GB;
  • EVGA GTX 960 SSC 4 GB;
  • ASUS GTX 960 Strix 2 GB;
  • ASUS GTX 950 Strix 2 GB;
  • EVGA GTX 750 Ti 2 GB.

Graphics settings:

  • 4K, Ultra (maximum);
  • 1440p, Ultra (maximum);
  • 1080p, Ultra (maximum);
  • 1080p, Medium;
  • 1080p, Low.

Benchmarks cannot be run with the upper FPS limit set, so FPS blocking technologies, including G-Sync, FreeSync and V-Sync, were turned off during testing. At \documents\my games\fallout 4\Fallout4Prefs.ini the iPresentInterval parameter was set to 0.

However, when you start the game, this file is overwritten, so you need to set its properties to read-only. This settings file is probably used instead of the root .ini file.

RAM and video memory consumption

At 1080p Ultra, it requires about 4.8GB of memory (2.4GB of physical memory), which isn't even a quarter of what Black Ops requires. Thus, 8 GB or even 4 GB of RAM will be enough for gamers. As for video memory, it is consumed less than 3 GB, usually 2.6-2.9 GB.

Informal testing was conducted prior to benchmarking to determine whether FXAA/TAA should be enabled. The performance difference was typically no more than 3% even at 4K, so TAA was active on Ultra settings.

Setting Shadow Distance to Medium increases FPS by approximately 16.87%. In the Ultra tests this setting was set to maximum.

Somewhat unexpectedly, the 980 Ti and 390X video cards have difficulties in Fallout 4. Both of them could not reach the standard of 60 frames, but in most cases 45-50 frames were enough for a comfortable game (unlike fast-paced shooters like the same Black Ops). Fallout 4 is almost as demanding as Black Ops III, which is technologically superior. The reason is the open game world, in which the distances are noticeably higher, and therefore the load on the video cards is high. Even on the largest Black Ops maps, there are always nearby objects blocking the map, such as buildings, so there is no need to draw more distant objects.

Despite all the caveats, Fallout 4 seems too graphically demanding for its level of graphics. At 4K resolution the game is unplayable on most single-chip video cards.

The AMD Radeon R9 390X falls between the GTX 970 and the MSI GTX 980. 1440p gaming works well on cards at the level of the R9 290X and GTX 970. The 285 and 960 are no longer capable of handling the demands of such high resolutions.

The GeForce GTX 970 unexpectedly beats the R9 390X by 5.1%. A search was made for the settings responsible for this result; The Shadow Distance setting affects almost 20 fps, but the power ratio remained unchanged. When setting Shadow Distance to minimum, the GTX 970 is a couple of frames ahead of the 390X, which means the same 5%.

The reason probably lies in Nvidia driver optimization. AMD's optimized driver is not yet ready. Perhaps, after its release, the 390X will be ahead of the GTX 970.

At Full HD resolution you can play on the GTX 960 (53 fps) and R9 285 (54 fps with a minimum of around 30 fps), as well as the R9 380. The GTX 950 is no longer enough for maximum settings at this resolution.

As a result, a GTX 960 or R9 380 graphics card is recommended for comfortable gaming at 1080p. Switching from Ultra to High settings allows you to play on a GTX 950 card and the discontinued R9 270X.

Among the top-tier cards, the GTX 980 Ti, 980, 970, R9 390X, and R9 290X routinely exceed the 60 frames mark, and Fallout 4 doesn't need more than that.

In short, we can say that with these settings, inexpensive cards like the GTX 750 Ti and R7 270X can handle the game.

Conclusion

Fallout 4 is a strange game. It doesn't look too impressive, just look at the screenshots to check. You can literally count the polygons on fence posts where there are fewer than 40. The fence itself is a flat barrier with zero depth. The game seems outdated from a visual point of view. This doesn't make it bad, as many reviews say, but it does make it less impressive by modern graphics standards.

Given this graphical simplicity, one would expect consistent performance, but huge distances and shadows keep the graphics cards from relaxing. For those trying to achieve higher frame rates, it is suggested to first lower the Shadow Distance setting, and then slightly reduce a number of other distance-related options.

ENBSeries mod to fix brakes

Boris Vorontsov has published the first version of his famous ENBSeries mod for Fallout 4. As the author notes, this is still a very early version of the mod, and only includes a couple of usual features (such as an AntiFreeze patch, similar to Skyrim).

"This patch works without graphical improvements. It is intended to fix specific bugs... or intended for this purpose, since I myself do not have them. Please publish the results if it helps or causes other bugs/incompatibility with the software."

This mod also solves the problem with cloudy and “cloudy” (non-loading) textures. Here’s an example: if you load next to an object, then everything loads, but as soon as you leave, there’s no more reloading. And this is on ultra:

All about aspect ratios 21:9 / 5:/4 / 4:3 modes

Eduard Kechko:
I launched it on a 5:4 monitor with black bars FULL SCREEN. Did the following:
1) NVidia control panel -> Display -> Adjust the size and position of the desktop -> Do not scale -> ON GPU -> override application settings -> Select screen resolution 1280x800 60Hz -> Apply;
2) In the Fallout4Prefs.ini file, set the following parameters:
. . .
iSize W=1280
iSize H=800
. . .
iPresentInterval=0 // Vertical synchronization - it's better to turn it off. because Due to the monitor's scan rate not matching, FPS drops seriously
bFull Screen=1
bBorderless=0
. . .
bTopMostWindow=0
bMaximizeWindow=0
. . .
After that, the game launched in LitterBox format in full screen mode!!!

1280x1024 Fixed resolution

A mod that fixes the problem with the disappearing castle, as well as the interface in the brotherhood armor.
Thank you Boria888 for the link!

Solution from Witchhunter :

I found an almost normal option for monitors with a resolution of 1280 by 1024:
1. Set the monitor resolution in Windows to 1280 by 800.
2. Select an aspect ratio of 16:10 and a resolution of 1280 by 800 in the launcher.
3. Uncheck “full screen mode” and check “window without frames”.
4. As a result, we get a clear and proportional picture with a resolution of 1280 by 800 in the center of the screen and small black stripes at the top and bottom. The castle and the entire interface, including the power armor, are visible.

Regarding the resolution of 1280x1024 (5:4 screens), another solution to the problem with crooked lockpicking and armor was written on the English-language forum:
Set the required resolution (without any "-1") in Fallout4Prefs.ini and in the Fallout4.ini file (located in C:\Users\\Documents\My Games\Fallout4\) under the line add:
fLockPositionY=100.0000
To solve problems with the armor interface, add the following (under the line in Fallout4.ini):
fUIPowerArmorGeometry_TranslateZ=-18.5000
fUIPowerArmorGeometry_TranslateY=460.0000

I can’t check the armor, because... at the very beginning of the game, and the hack works correctly.

How to change the viewing angle (FOV)

Open file Fallout4.ini(in documents) and under the section add:

fDefaultWorldFOV=XX fDefault1stPersonFOV=XX

Where XX is the viewing angle value. 80 is the standard value in the game. You can try setting 90, 110...

_______________________________________________________________________________

In order for the game to run at 21:9 without problems, just open Fallout4Prefs.ini in your documents and change the following lines:

bTopMostWindow=1 bMaximizeWindow=1 bBorderless=1 bFull Screen=0 iSize H=XXXX iSize W=YYYY

Where XXXX is the height and YYYY is the width of your monitor. Example with a 2560x1080 monitor:

bTopMostWindow=1 bMaximizeWindow=1 bBorderless=1 bFull Screen=0 iSize H=1080 iSize W=2560

steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Fallout 4

This is what comes out in the end:

PS you can also make the values 1280x1024 (4:3), but note that:

1) it doesn’t work for everyone (50/50), I haven’t found out the reason yet.
2) the loss of locks and master keys, as well as freezing when leaving the terminal, are associated precisely with the change in the 4:3 ratio.

at 16:9 and a resolution of 1280x720 none of this was noticed.

bTopMostWindow=1 bMaximizeWindow=1 bBorderless=1 bFull Screen=0 iSize H=1024 iSize W=1280

If your settings are lost, then you need both Fallout4Prefs.ini set the read-only attribute. (right mouse button on Fallout4Prefs.ini->properties->Read Only->Apply)

There is also a way to return the lock if it is broken, but it also works every once in a while and not for everyone. Try:
Go to documents in file Fallout4Prefs.ini
and after the section change

iSize W=XXXX
iSize H=YYYY
on
iSize W=XXXX-1
iSize H=YYYY-1

That is, it should turn out like this (example):

iSize W=1920
iSize H=1080
I change it to
iSize W=1919
iSize H= 1079

or example from 4:3

iSize W=1279
iSize H=1023

Do the same with the second INI file on the path with the game steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Fallout 4

The game crashes/freezes. Various solutions to problems part 1

  • Find the line there iPresentInterval=1 and change the value to 0. Like this: iPresentInterval=0
It is not necessary to make a backup copy. You can simply delete the Fallout4Pref.ini file and the game will download it again with standard values.
Next, you need to go to the NVIDIA or AMD panel and enable vertical sync.
An even simpler solution is to play in windowed mode.

Disable mouse acceleration

Mouse acceleration is enabled by default in Fallout 4. To disable it we do the same thing we did for Skyrim.

  • Open Fallout4.ini(in the documents folder)
  • Scroll down to section and add the line:
    bMouseAcceleration=0
I would like to warn you right away that when this parameter was disabled, other bugs appeared related to terminals and the armored suit.

Well, the game stopped crashing.
In msconfig I discovered that out of 4 processors, only 1 is working for me. I installed 4 percent and everything worked! Check it out, it might help.

How to launch the game without launcher on Steam.

There is a way that will allow you to get rid of the appearance of the launcher with settings when starting the game. What should be done:

  • 1. Go to the directory with Fallout 4 installed steamapps\common\Fallout 4\
  • 2. There we need 2 files: Fallout4.exe And Fallout4Launcher.exe
  • 3. Rename Fallout4Launcher.exe V Fallout4LauncherOriginal.exe(if you want to return everything back, i.e. save the original under a different name).
  • 4. Rename Fallout4.exe V Fallout4Launcher.exe
Now, when you launch the game through Steam, you will immediately find yourself in the game, bypassing the launcher.

MOZGOHI
You can also try program Razer Cortex, I personally have a Radeon 6850 and an AMD processor with 4 cores of 3.5 each, I’m too lazy to look, I carried out a set of measures, on average, even in Boston, it rarely drops below 25-30, mostly 40-60. Well, I did a bunch of things and set the power supply to maximum, and turned off the FPS limitation in the game, and completely carried out defragmentation, turned off some effects that do not greatly affect the picture, and set the resolution lower than my 1920 by 1080 (set it to 1600 by 900). It’s pleasant to play, the main thing is that there are no special freezes or drops in FPS - on average on medium (excuse the pun) about 40-50 FPS and here is the quality screen:

Fallout 4 "Works" - v 0.0.4

lameover:
In general, try those who have Windows 8.1 or 10. It does not work under Windows 7, because... Windows 7 is not suitable for this.

Download the FO4W.ZIP archive and unpack it into the game folder.
For myself, in dxgi.ini I only changed UseFlipDiscard=false to true.
It seems that for now it works ONLY in windowed mode without a frame (IMHO a much better mode than full screen).

I caught a similar bug, only everything is gray + blurry around the edges. rimod 00094636 doesn't help. I tried everything: sleeping, eating drugs, alcohol, being treated by a doctor, etc. the effect is not removed.
HOORAY! FOUND!
It turns out there is another command:
If the screen turns green/darkened/effects (visual) do not reset
rimod 00094636
or

rimod 002041B6 (this one helped me)
You may also have turned on the flashlight (long press tab)

It’s not clear why everything turns white around, sometimes it’s normal, sometimes everything around is white and blurry....
demonwings03 solution:
You need to turn off the humidity in the launcher otherwise this will happen during rain and darkness. If that doesn't help, try turning off reflections, humidity, volumetric rain and glare.

Solution with friezes from the user

smoke64
In short, I solved the problem with friezes by 80%. System: Gtx 650ti 1gb, 4gb ram, q6600 2.4 ghz (4 cores), win 7 64bit. -...- After these manipulations, I began to play much better with the standard config and medium settings. Enb antifreeze must be installed in the folder.
Open enblocal.ini and enter

ApplyStabilityPatch=false ForceVideoMemorySize=true VideoMemorySizeMb=9096

I don’t know what these values are and why 9096, but a guy on another forum wrote that it helped him to remove friezes to a playable state. And then a little aside: I restart the computer, remove everything I can from the manager, launch the game and while it’s in the menu, I set the priority to high. Take it all in. Only the soapy textures remain in places all the same, and the friezes remain during fast transitions and not always - here I just wait for about a minute and everything is normal again. Yesterday I ran around the most “lag” places, everything seems to be playable normally, there are mini-freezes of 0.5 seconds and that’s also rare. And I also try to save in the red rocket (where you find the dog the first time) when I exit the game, so that it will load the next time without problems.
Try it if you want, maybe it will help someone. Compared to what I had before, this is...- progress

If it hangs in the game menu when saving or loading

Wayrest
The essence of the problem: on the fourth day of actively playing the game, there were simply wild lags, brakes and jerks when saving the game and loading saves, and generally when going to the game menu. The menu for the mouse and keyboard began to respond from the tenth click, a slide show was observed in its pure form, despite the fact that the game itself ran without brakes or glitches. Uzhoss, in short.
I solved the problem this way: automatic saving is enabled in the game settings by default:
1. When resting,
2. While waiting,
3. When traveling,
4. Saving in Pip-Boy (I haven’t fully figured out this last one yet - laziness, but oh well).
As a result of all these autosaves, by the fourth day of gameplay I had well over a hundred save files, which I was surprised by, because... I myself saved the game in manual mode only in place of old saves, naively believing that I only had no more than 5-6 of them.
In a word, I turned off all the autosaves listed above in the game settings (I left a save in the Pip-Boy, but not every 10 minutes, but once every 60 minutes), deleted a whole bunch of unnecessary saves (I left the last 4 in time), after which the brakes stopped. The menus completely disappeared when saving and loading. Everything worked from the first click, as expected.
I would be glad if this advice helps someone.

Souchastnik
I also struggled with freezes in the game. What helped was deleting the entire ctfhost.exe process tree (as it turned out, it was loading the video card), cleaning the registry for all ctfhost values and deleting the ctfhost folder (I looked at its location in the properties of the ctfhost.exe process). I also removed the FPS limitation and mouse smoothing in the ini files of the game and set the settings for the fallout4.exe program in the nvidia control panel (vertical sync - adaptive; maximum number of pre-prepared frames - 1; triple buffering - on).
I play on the settings suggested by the game launcher, except for anti-aliasing (set to FXAA). When entering the game, I give priority to the real-time fallout4.exe process.
After these manipulations, the friezes, and indeed any lags, disappeared.

Hi all! I tried a lot of things, installed all sorts of mods on textures, since my laptop is a weak Intel i5, 8 GB of RAM, nvidia 520MX 1 GB, but there were still lags in places. Then I decided to see what would happen if I took the ini file settings from New Vegas. And you won’t believe that the logs have completely disappeared from the premises, even at least at the Corvega plant. There is not a single lag in the wasteland at all. If anyone wants to try, here is my config:

for weak processors: the idea was taken from The Witcher, after doing this fraud my FPS increased by about 15-20 frames
Google the program Battle Encoder Shirase. install. Open the program, open the game. minimize the game, click [ Target ] in the program, look for Fallout4.exe and double-click it, click Yes
Next, press the [Control] button and move the slider to the LEFT, that is, set it to about 5-10 percent. Now let me explain what we did: we allowed the game to use not 75% of the processor power, but all 90-99, depending on how much you set.
but as you might guess, this affects absolutely all other programs, which will all work en masse on one percent of the core (or again on 5-10, depending on how many percent you leave):D also after leaving the game, before When closing the program, press the [Unlimit All] button, otherwise everything will be long and terribly stupid.

The above/below machinations must be done every time you enter the game
(!) this does not affect the performance of the game related to RAM, that is, loading locations and some other things unknown to me

My experience:
- Using the Souchastnik method, I set the Fallout4.exe process to real-time priority. Microlags have indeed decreased, FPS has increased by about 5%. Some delays when pressing menu buttons, for example “Disassemble” in crafting, have also disappeared.
- If you select Full Screen mode (bFull Screen=1), rather than the standard “Windowed without frames”, FPS increases by about 10%.
-Fallout4.ini, Fallout4Prefs.ini files in the Documents\My Games folder and the \Fallout4\Fallout4Prefs.ini file in the game folder - need to be marked with the "Read Only" checkbox so that the game does not reset graphics, difficulty, saves, and subtitle display settings etc.
-With regards to FOV - I changed it in the block, the angle of view expanded, but the weapons and Pip-Boy remained looking the same. To fix it, you need to type FOV XX in the console, for example FOV 90, FOV 110, etc., make a save, restart the fall and boot. The weapon and computer will become further/closer as needed. I gave it 95, which was just right for me.
- After disabling VSync and unlocking the FPS, bugs may appear. But I don’t want to go back to Vsync - the mouse floats. Therefore, we will locate the FPS differently:
-Download MSI Afterburner;
-go to RivaTunerStaticticsServer, add “+” to the list Fallout4.exe from the folder, set the Fremarate Limit field to 80-90.
Why so many? Due to the lack of VSync, this will be approximately 60fps on the screen; in Skyrim, after this number, physics bugs began. In Fallout it’s safe even a little higher, I set it to 120. And the mouse doesn’t float, and there are no strange glitches like crazy jumps, twitching objects and super-fast hairpins.
- Disk defragmentation saved me from UNREALLY LONG downloads, but not with the regular service (it didn’t help at all), but with the IObit Smart Defrag 4 program on the “Defragmentation and File Priority” setting. Other defragmenters are probably also good, but they want money, and this one is free. It is better to disable the defragmentation service built into Windows so that they do not interfere with each other. The time it takes to load a save from the main menu has decreased from 1:10 to 25-30 seconds. Before this, Fallout 4 was on WD Green (now WD Raptor), where you had to wait for several minutes.
So, the new Catalyst 15.11.1 Beta drivers gave a little more FPS. Measured in the same place, on the roof of the Corvegi plant during the day in the rain, looking towards the city - with old wood 24-25 fps, with ENB fix 26-27, with new wood and fix about 33-35, cool) TAA There is no point in changing it for anything, it doesn’t eat anything. And I figured out the terminals, lowered the framerate limit in Rivatuner from 120 to 90 and it became normal.

Lying in the city

ESCur
I found the problem with FPS loss in the city. It's all about the distance and length of the shadows. Unfortunately, the falach engine cannot cut off shadows that the character cannot see. Because of this, with a high drawing distance of shadows, they are displayed even through 5 buildings in front of you. And there are a lot of such objects in the city! Because of this, sharp FPS drops appear in the city. But this can be fixed by registering your distance parameters in
Users\Documents\my games\Fallout4\Fallout4Prefs.ini
You need to change the distance and length of the shadows.
fDirShadowDistance= distance for displaying shadows of large objects.
fShadowDistance= maximum length of the object's shadow.
U consoles indicator is 3000, for PC high/ultra 14,000 and 20,000 respectively.
In general, we change it to the following numbers (it all depends on your config)

fDirShadowDistance= 6000 or 8000
fShadowDistance= 2000 or 3000

And we are happy with the stable FPS, it doesn’t affect the picture at all. If you only look into the distance, as for example at the beginning after leaving the shelter, look at your old house. But there are quite a few such moments in the game.

Starting foreign

Fallout 4 has only recently been released, so it's easy to see that you'll need a fairly powerful computer to run it. However, do not despair if you have not made any hardware updates for a long time, because if you wish, you can always work on the settings to get the desired result even on a weaker computer than the developers require. To do this, you will need this guide, which will tell you how to run the game Fallout 4 on a relatively weak computer. Graphics settings play a vital role in this matter, so maximum attention will be paid to them.

If you follow the instructions, then there is a chance that you will be able to enjoy this game without any problems. But don’t think that you can run this RPG on a very weak computer - you need to be realistic and understand that this is not an isometric role-playing game from the beginning of the 2000s, but a first-class new Fallout 4. Therefore, the graphics settings will only help those who have at least an average computer, otherwise there is no point in even trying.

Screen resolution

In Fallout 4, graphics settings can be changed at a variety of levels, and first of all you need to do this through the launcher. Simply put, launch the game not through a shortcut, but through a special application that offers you various options, including both starting the game and detailed profile settings. There you can also find graphic settings - these are exactly what you need, you will work with them the entire time you study this guide. So, the first point you should pay attention to is screen resolution. In order to configure graphics for this item, you need to know the optimal resolution for your monitor - it depends on its size and proportions.

Read the manual or check online, and then set the optimal indicator. Please note that this guide is focused on ensuring you get a good screen experience while still being able to play without any problems. If you just want to spend time in a new game, then you just need to reset all settings to minimum. But if you still want to enjoy the beauty of the game world, then this guide will help you properly configure the Fallout 4 game. Graphics settings, of course, are not limited to screen resolution; you have to change many more values.

Smoothing

In the Fallout 4 game, the graphics settings on weak computers should be combined in parallel with the control panel settings of your video card. One of the most striking examples is anti-aliasing. The thing is that by default your graphics card also has anti-aliasing setting enabled, so if you want better performance you will need to disable it. As for the game itself, here you can set the best anti-aliasing quality, since in the case of Fallout 4 it does not greatly affect performance, but at the same time makes the picture much clearer.

If you still have problems with performance when anti-aliasing is activated, you can turn it off - the picture will become blurrier, but performance will increase, which will be very important in battles and in the cities of the Fallout 4 universe. Setting up graphics on a weak PS is a delicate matter, so don't expect that you'll just take all the metrics from this article, use them in your launcher, and everything will fall into place. Naturally, this particular setting will suit some people, but many will have to work on the issue a little more on their own.

Anisotropic filtering

Detailed graphics customization in Fallout 4 requires you not only to deal with points that are more or less clear to everyone, but also to work with concepts that you may see for the first time. For example, few gamers know what it is. But if you want to get good performance and a good picture, you need to have an idea about it. In total, the anisotropic filtering parameter has 16 sampling levels. The lower the level, the less clear the textures in the player's field of view; the higher it is, the better the visibility. This parameter is important, because even if you set the maximum sampling level, the game performance practically does not drop - so feel free to increase this indicator to get a nice picture and not lose the quality of the gameplay in Fallout 4. Optimal graphics settings in this The game will allow you to get incredible results.

texture detail

If you have a very old video card that doesn't even have one gigabyte of video memory, then you should consider using the minimum graphics settings in Fallout 4 - this will allow you to improve performance. However, if you have at least one gigabyte of memory, you can start experimenting. The fact is that texture detail can even be set not to maximum, but to “ultra”. In some cases, one-gigabyte video cards handled this level of detail quite well without significantly affecting performance. As you can see, the graphics settings program for Fallout 4 can be quite flexible, so you should constantly try new things to find the optimal settings. It is recommended to try your configuration in busy cities or during an intense battle - after all, in spaces with a small number of details and objects, there is no particular load on the computer.

Detail and range of shadows

Please note that there is a graphics adjustment utility for Fallout 4 that can make your efforts easier. This application analyzes the capabilities of your computer, adjusting the settings individually for you. However, you should understand that technology always remains technology, and it can malfunction or give you very overestimated or very underestimated forecasts. Therefore, you can try the utility, but it will still be much better to use this guide, since it has a proven set of settings, while the application always generates new sets. So, if we are talking about detailing, then it is worth carefully considering all the points, since specifically for this parameter there is its own tab (as well as for drawing distance, but we will talk about this later). In this case, you should set the settings to medium, and here's why: the fact is that the shadows in this game do not look the best, even at the “ultra” level, when it comes to secondary objects. As for the main shadows, they look good on medium settings, but do not degrade performance as much as they would if you set the ultra settings.

Detailing additional textures

This point is one of the most pointless, so there is no reason to devote time to it. It's hard to even say what exactly it affects, because regardless of whether you set it to ultra settings or the lowest settings, the game remains the same outwardly. And given the fact that ultra settings have virtually no effect on performance, you can safely choose them. You may be able to notice the difference and experience even greater beauty in the details.

Lighting detail

As for the detailing of lighting, here you will have to reset everything to a minimum if possible, only the most important setting can be left at a medium level. This means that you need to turn off the sun ray detail, set it to the minimum value, and also turn off the volumetric light function. All this significantly affects the performance of the game, so if you do not have a powerful computer that fully meets the recommended requirements, then you will not be able to enjoy the volume of the sun's rays. But if you do decide to leave these settings at even the medium level, you may notice a significant loss in performance, and it will be even more noticeable in enclosed spaces. The reason for this is not the best optimization carried out by the developers. So it is still strongly recommended to disable what can be disabled, and in other cases reset the settings to a minimum.

Other

In the detail tab, in addition to all the items above that have more flexible customization options, there are a few more items that can be either turned on or off without any flexibility. More specifically, you can turn on or off reflections in water, display of air humidity, the volume of droplets of falling rain, glare and motion blur. All these points can be safely checked, because they do not particularly affect the overall performance, but make the picture more pleasant and realistic. The only thing is that you can turn off motion blur, because although it does not affect performance, it is not too pleasing to the eye. But this is a matter of taste, not graphical optimization.

Draw distance

The draw distance tab contains four sliders, each of which is responsible for its own parameters: objects, characters, grass and objects. You can reset the first and third indicators to a minimum, leaving characters and items at a slightly higher level - they can be important for the gameplay. Set the detailing of distant objects and the drawing distance of details to a low value, since all of the above will not give you much pleasure (except when looking into the distance through a sniper scope or binoculars), but in some places it can greatly reduce performance, because the game is constantly will draw the most distant objects and their details.

Deep customization

If none of the above helps you, then you can go to the next level and examine the contents of the Fallout.ini file. There you can, for example, disable or, but for this you need to understand the code contained in this file. If you don't know what to do with it, don't touch it.

Anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering Detail Detail (additional effects) Draw distance Draw distance. Conclusions One page

Many players are happy to continue exploring the wastelands of Fallout 4. And we continue to analyze the technical nuances associated with the game. Our performance testing will help you choose the optimal video card for the game. An article on using NVIDIA DSR in Fallout 4 will tell you how to get a clearer picture with high-quality edge smoothing.

Not everyone has powerful graphics cards. Some are forced to reduce the quality of graphics for a comfortable gaming experience. There are a lot of settings in Fallout 4, so choosing the optimal configuration is not so easy. There are standard quality profiles, but you always want to know what you are sacrificing, and whether it is possible to get a better ratio of performance and picture quality by manually selecting parameters. We will reveal all the nuances of graphic settings in this article. Specific examples and comparative screenshots will show what each specific parameter affects. All parameter changes will be accompanied by testing, which will allow us to evaluate their impact on overall performance. Based on the results, it will become clear which graphic parameters are most critical for performance or picture quality, what can be reduced and what should not be sacrificed.

The game uses the updated Creation Engine, which was created by Bethesda for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Rendering of materials taking into account their physical properties (physical-based rendering) is supported. Dynamic volumetric lighting has been implemented. Fallout 4 runs in DirectX 11.

Since we are interested in identifying the main trends and the influence of parameters on mid- and low-end video cards, we chose the GeForce GTX 960 model as a prototype. Its frequencies were adjusted to the standard level with a maximum core boost of up to 1270 MHz with a memory frequency of 7012 MHz. The general computer configuration is described below.

Test bench

  • Processor: Intel Core i7-3930K @4.4 GHz
  • motherboard: ASUS Rampage IV Formula
  • video card: GeForce GTX 960
  • memory: Kingston KHX2133C11D3K4/16GX, 1866 MHz, 4x4 GB
  • hard drive: Hitachi HDS721010CLA332, 1 TB
  • power supply: Seasonic SS-750KM
  • operating system: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64
  • GeForce driver: NVIDIA GeForce 359.06
  • Radeon: Crimson Edition driver 15.11.1 beta

To identify the key features of graphic parameters, we used our traditional approach: the maximum graphics quality is set, then one of the parameters is changed one by one - from the maximum level to the minimum. Testing was carried out using Fraps using a single test scene for all cases. The scene itself is quite varied, as it involves walking through an area with dense vegetation and through a settlement. Clear weather provides maximum visibility range, rays of light are visible. There are many objects and shadows from them. The walking route crosses a stream.

This test scene was not used only when testing specific weather effects. This will be discussed in more detail during the study of these parameters.

As for the comparative screenshots, for greater clarity they were taken in different scenes. For example, if we are studying different options for the quality of light rays, then the scene is selected where they are best visible and screenshots of this scene are taken at different quality levels.

Let's start studying the settings with the parameters of the main menu, where only anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering modes are available. There are also buttons for selecting a general quality profile - from low to maximum. Everything else is in the detailed settings section. Below is an illustration of the graphics options in the settings menu for Ultra mode.

It is the Ultra mode with a resolution of 1920x1080 that we chose as the main one. Only TAA anti-aliasing has been replaced by the simpler FXAA. The second option is a little worse, but gives a little better clarity of details, which may be relevant for our comparison.

Additionally, the 60 fps limit is unlocked. This is done by manual edits in the game parameters file. Go to “My Documents”, then My Games, then the Fallout4 folder. The full path is “Username\Documents\My games\Fallout4”. Inside, open the Fallout4Prefs.ini file with any text editor, in the line “iPresentInterval=1” change the value to 0, i.e. set “iPresentInterval=0”. Note that after removing this restriction, the speed of working with the master key increases, so be careful before performing such an operation in the game.

Anti-Aliasing

The game does not support hardware MSAA anti-aliasing modes, but instead offers anti-aliasing through additional image post-processing. One option is FXAA. This method is often used in modern games and gives acceptable results with minimal impact on performance. FXAA is automatically activated when you select the Medium settings profile. Increasingly higher levels of quality are offered by TAA. This new anti-aliasing method is gaining popularity and is used in Star Wars Battlefront, Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide and Ryse: Son of Rome.

Let's look at the image without anti-aliasing and with different AA options. Full-size images without compression are available by clicking.

Let's immediately pay attention to power lines - towers and hanging wires. Without smoothing, the whole thing is angular, and the wires fall apart into individual rectangular fragments. A clear comb appears in the elements of the right house. And in other ways it is noticeable, just not as much. FXAA already softens such edges and stepped transitions. TXAA works even more efficiently. This is best seen in the wires, which acquire the smoothest contours only with TXAA, with virtually no visual breaks.

For better clarity, here is a comparison of identical fragments of each screenshot in one image.

Along with neutralizing the “ladder” effect, the clarity of small details is lost. This is best seen in branchy bushes and grass. And if you pay attention to the branches of distant trees, they become thicker. TXAA has the strongest lathering. With FXAA, anti-aliasing is a little worse, but there is also a little less blurring of details.

The situation is ambiguous. The “soft” picture with AA seems to be more pleasing to the eye, but the clarity of small elements is still a little lacking. If you have a powerful video card, you can use NVIDIA DSR technology instead of anti-aliasing, which will not only smooth out the edges, but even improve the overall elaboration of small details. On mid- and low-end video cards, the choice depends on personal preference. But we still wouldn’t recommend abandoning smoothing. For further image and performance comparison, we chose FXAA.

In addition, it is worth saying that after manually editing the iPresentInterval parameter with TAA anti-aliasing, a certain “jitter” of the picture appears when the clarity of the contours of objects changes during fast walking. Noticeable if you focus on small details. If you leave the limit at 60 fps, then TXAA works in dynamics without such obvious problems.

Now let's see how AA modes affect the overall performance of the game on the GeForce GTX 960 video card.

Enabling FXAA relative to the mode without anti-aliasing only reduces fps by a couple of percent. TXAA is given at losses of less than 4%. That is, for the overall level of performance, the anti-aliasing mode is not critical. Memory load in the heaviest mode is less than 2 GB.

Anisotropic Filtering

In modern conditions, anisotropic filtering is achieved with minimal performance losses. It improves texture rendering on inclined surfaces. An example of working in different modes is below. Let us immediately note that after restarting the save, the location of the grass, stones and contours of puddles may change. Also, in some frames, an additional shadow appears on the cracks of the asphalt, which is of the same random nature.

As the quality of anisotropic filtering decreases, the clarity of the road surface decreases. At the same time, this deterioration is most clearly manifested when switching to the simplest filtering mode; between higher-quality modes, you need to look for the difference with a magnifying glass. Well, when filtering is completely turned off, all surfaces take on a blurry appearance. In the latter case, even some puddles disappear. This should not depend on the filtering mode, but according to subjective sensations, the number of elements on the surface of the earth after turning off AF actually decreases slightly.

Let's look at the test results. Let us remember that all other parameters are at maximum when anti-aliasing is FXAA.

Even a minimal reduction in filtering quality has a slight impact on frame rates. The difference between the filtration level of 16x and 2x is 6-7%. And a complete shutdown gives an acceleration of 10% relative to AF 16x. But without filtering the picture is unsatisfactory. We recommend choosing the highest quality. And if you have a weak video card, then limit yourself to at least 8x mode.
