Typically, for the printer to work correctly, you need to download the driver from a special installation disk that comes with the printing device itself. But if you need to connect a printer or MFP, this same installation disk may not be at hand. It also often happens that the driver was developed for Windows XP and it simply does not work on Windows 8.
If it is impossible to install the Canon 810 printer from the original disk, then you can always do it manually: this method is simple and accessible to everyone.
Method one
For Mac OS X, go to the Apple menu and click System Preferences. Select “Print and Fax” and click on the “+” icon. To begin the installation process, select a new printer from the list.
- Next, the printer installation process begins. In the “Printer Installation” window that opens, the system will display the printers available for installation.

If the printing device cannot be connected through the computer's control panel, then you can use an alternative method and download the driver from the printer manufacturer's technical support page on the Internet.
Before installing a printer without a disk, you need to find out the exact model of the device, as well as the version and bit depth (in bits) of the computer's operating system. The brand and model are indicated on the front panel of the printer itself, for example, Canon lbp 810 or Samsung scx 3400, etc.
We find out the OS bit size by right-clicking on the “This PC” icon and selecting “Properties”.

On the printer manufacturer's website, in the Support section, you need to find your specific HP deskjet or scx model and download the appropriate driver version by clicking on the floppy disk. Typically, the driver is downloaded to the computer as an archive file, which must be unzipped before installation. It is possible that after unzipping, several files of different types will appear in the folder. Among them, by name you need to find exactly the driver that suits your operating system. Such a file will have the extension *.exe (for example, for the i-SENSYS MF3010 MFP, when installed on a computer with 32-bit Windows 8, the driver is called MF3010MFDriversV2095W32RU.exe).
Having opened the required file, a window will appear to install the program on your computer.
Some printer models may require you to disconnect the Samsung scx MFP from your computer during installation in order to configure the software correctly. Then you can safely follow the prompts and, in just a few minutes, the required driver will be installed.

Have you figured out how to install the printer, but don't have the driver disk on hand? Or have you figured out how to connect a printer to your laptop, but the laptop doesn't have a drive to insert the media with the software? The situations may be different, but they all have one problem in common - the need to install drivers for the printer without a disk.
How do I know which driver is needed?
In order for the connected equipment to work correctly, you need to find suitable drivers. To successfully complete this task you need to know:
- Printer model.
- Version and bitness of the operating system.
Look at the device case, box or user manual for the exact model. You can find out the version and bit depth in the system properties:
Downloading drivers
To quickly download Windows 7 printer drivers from the official website, use the search by model. Let's take Canon drivers as an example:
- Go to the manufacturer's website.
- Go to the “Support” – “For Individual Users” section.
- Click "See all products."
- Enter your exact printer model in the search bar to find and download the installation disk.
Smart Search will find the software you need and automatically detect your operating system. Let's say you need drivers for Windows 7 - check that not only the version is the same, but also the bit size (32 or 64 bit), then click "Download". For HP, drivers are found and downloaded in the same way as for printers of other brands, Epson, Brother, etc.
Equipment ID
If you don’t want to look for drivers on the official website (or for some reason the necessary software is not there), you can use another method:
Select the appropriate driver version (according to system version and bit depth) and click on the floppy disk to download the software.
Note: The hardware ID must be determined even if the device is not fully identified by the system. Simply put, if the printer has been installed, you can easily find out its code through the device manager.
Software installation
Drivers are downloaded as an installation package with the *.exe extension. If you had an installation disk, you would find exactly the same file inside it. Accordingly, the installation order does not change either:
