Health
Here are potions for all kinds of operations with your health. A regular heart in the “Duration” row means that health will be restored throughout this time. A pale heart in the same row means that your health will decrease all this time. If the duration row says “0:00”, then the effect of the potion is instantaneous.

Now you can create elixirs that temporarily increase characteristics or restore health. When creating potions in the game, trophies from most monsters are used (previously these items were not needed, but were still present in the world). For example, from the spider eye, which was added in version 1.9, you can create an elixir that allows you to breathe underwater. In addition to items dropped by monsters, crafting potions will require water, sugar, and probably a glass jar. Most of the ingredients can be obtained in the Lower World: Ghasts drop tears, and Ifrits drop fire rods, from which you can get two portions of fire powder.
Potions are divided not only by type, but also by quality. From the names of the elixir you can understand what kind of effect it has. In total, there are about 400 recipes in the game (possibly much more). You can create elixirs using a cauldron and a tripod, which will be introduced in the completed version 1.9.
Recipes
Elixirs of positive action
From the tears of the ghasts, the player will be able to obtain a level 1 health elixir, which will instantly restore some of the character’s lives. For a level two potion, you need to mix sugar, a hellish wart and a ball of mucus. The third level health elixir can be obtained from all of the above components, but in addition to the slime ball, you should use fire powder.
In order to swim freely in lava, you can create a potion of fire resistance. The player cannot be set on fire by anything for three minutes. The duration of action may vary depending on the ingredients used. To create such a potion, you will need magma mucus, which will probably fall out from magma cubes (analogous to slugs, but in the Nether).
Potion recipes can be crossed, experimenting to obtain a high-quality elixir that gives several boosts at once. So, if you mix magma mucus and ghast tear, you can get an elixir that gives resistance to fire and restores most of your health. If, say, sugar increases speed for a while, then by crossing it with a ghast tear, you can get a healing potion of speed.
To swim in lava for about three minutes with impunity, you can mix a spider eye, water and magma mucus. The character will receive not only resistance to fire, but also the ability to breathe underwater.
Elixirs of influence
The use of some elixirs can lead to unpleasant consequences. Let's say if you mix sugar, water, a fermented spider eye and a hellish wart, your speed will increase, your health will increase, and your resistance to fire will improve. A side effect of such a potion is hunger, which will end in only a minute and a half.
Elixirs of influence can cause instant damage to the player, slow them down for a while, and can even poison them. Now players will be able to build their own laboratories and conduct experiments there, mixing the necessary ingredients in different proportions to improve the effect of the elixir.
If you drink milk, the effect of the potion will not be (if you try to get under the influence of the potion).

Although the official minecraft release containing alchemy has not yet been released, I think it will not be long in coming and I decided to write a guide on alchemy based on the prerelease. The ability to create potions using brewing racks was added in Prerelease 3, and in Prerelease 4 you can not only brew regular potions, but also weapon potions. Throw a bottle of acid at an unsuspecting pig, and that’s it – collect the loot. But that’s later, and now let’s talk about how to brew your first potion.
So, to brew the potion we need a brewing stand. Let's craft it from the following items:

It is in it that potions are now brewed. To do this, fill the empty flask with water, then put it in one of the lower slots of the brewing stand (you can put 3 flasks at once), and put the infernal growth in the upper one.
When the brewing process is finished, we will end up with a potion of clumsiness. Let's add sugar to the top slot, since we want a speed potion, and it is sugar that gives this effect.
If you did everything correctly, you should have a speed potion. If you want, you can add glow dust to it to increase the acceleration (but reduce the duration), red dust to increase the duration (but reduce the acceleration), or fermented spider eye to get a slow potion (you can add more gunpowder to it and throw it at someone ).
