Prestigio multiphone 5507 duo black. The radio of the mobile device is a built-in FM receiver

The first mobile product that came to us for testing in 2015 was the Prestigio MultiPhone 5507 DUO. This is an affordable smartphone with a screen resolution of 5 inches that is relevant today. Inside is a 4-core Snapdragon and 1 GB of RAM. The price of the tube is 2199 UAH. What performance does this device have and how else can it attract a buyer - later in the review.

Contents of delivery

The Prestigio MultiPhone 5507 DUO comes with black earbuds with a headset function and an answer button. The wire is flat, so they will tangle a little less than usual. The box also contains a charger and the corresponding cable, and, of course, documentation.

Brief technical specifications

Design and body

In terms of design, the tested smartphone is more of a workhorse than a style icon. The strict classic monoblock appearance is well emphasized by a silver insert along the entire rim. It separates the front part, covered with Gorilla Glass, from the front. Additionally, the screen is also protected by the housing. The latter protrudes slightly above the display, which helps to avoid cracks and other troubles caused by falls. Metal is not used in decoration.

The back cover is not glossy and not an ordinary soft-touch, on which fingerprints are visible immediately after touching. This is a kind of combination of pleasant-to-touch, non-slippery plastic with a small and barely visible structured surface. Under certain lighting, it may seem that its color is not even black, but rich gray. Traces of touches on it are not visible and this soft-touch does not allow the smartphone to slip out of your hand. So, in terms of selection of materials, we give it an excellent rating. The assembly is also at a good level. Let me add that a model similar to ours is still available on the market, but only in white.

Based on the cost of the Prestigio MultiPhone 5507 DUO, in our case it would be unnecessary to require narrow frames and minimal thickness from the manufacturer. With a weight of 160 grams, which is not so little, it is not very easy to control a smartphone on the go, holding it in one hand, especially if your fingers are not long. There is a problem with reaching the touch keys under the display without intercepting it. Although, I note that the location of the power and volume buttons is convenient. They are on the right and left, respectively, on the ribs, at the same level.

As for the other functional elements, there is a 3.5 mm audio jack and a microUSB port on the top end, a microphone on the rim of the front part, and a 2 MP front camera above the display. and light and proximity sensors.

On the back side, in the center, on a pedestal decorated with a silver rim, the main 8 megapixel was placed. camera, single flash and microphone. At the bottom there is a slot for the speakerphone.

By the way, it sounds to match the cost of the handset. Throughout the entire range, the sound is smooth, without any special drops into low and high frequencies. But there are no complaints about the conversational speaker. Its maximum volume is enough for conversations even in the subway. There are no extraneous noises or wheezing.

Under the back cover there is a removable battery, two slots for Mini SIM cards and one for memory cards. So the user, at his discretion, can easily expand the storage offered by the company from 5 GB to a minimum of 64 GB. We simply did not have a larger card. Don’t forget about the opportunity to use 200 GB of free Prestigio MultiCloud cloud storage.

It is important to note that there is no way to change the card without removing the battery. Same with SIM cards.

Display

When you turn on your smartphone for the first time, you are pleasantly surprised by the good display. A 5-inch IPS matrix with excellent viewing angles is used. No matter how you turn the phone, the colors and visibility of the picture remain at a high level. In the sun, information from the screen is readable, but only at the maximum brightness level. I noticed that the backlight adjustment range is not very large. Before going to bed, when I look through interesting news for the day in complete darkness, I miss its minimum. Although, most likely, this is a firmware problem and will be fixed over time.

The touch layer is responsive, in the cold at minus 20 it is a little capricious, but this is not a problem - you can’t work on it with gloves anyway. Multi-touch is supported for 5 touches simultaneously. There is no oleophobic coating, so you need to wipe the glass with little effort.

There are no unnecessary frills in the screen settings. Automatic or manual brightness adjustment, wallpaper, screensaver, sleep time and font size.

Hardware filling

As operating experience has shown, and this is all the past holidays, such a display has proven itself to be excellent when surfing the Internet, reading the news feed and even watching videos. The handset accepts movies in HD resolution without any complaints. You can also play Full HD video content on a third-party player, but it sometimes slows down, especially in very dynamic pictures. I was also surprised that the very resource-intensive Asphalt 8 went to fairly high detail here.

It is worth clarifying that the display resolution is 720x1280 pixels. For a budget five inches - just right. The smooth operation of the interface and the multimedia capabilities mentioned above are provided in hardware by a 4-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 MSM8212 processor operating at a frequency of 1.2 GHz. It uses Adreno 302 GPU and 1 GB of RAM.

All this runs on the Android 4.4.2 operating system. Compared to MediaTek models, this smartphone has some differences in the interface for working with two SIM cards. The screenshots below show how the selection of a SIM card is implemented when making a call or sending an SMS.

As expected, there are Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS modules inside. I hope that in the near future the buyer of this handset will be able to try out the Prestigio MultiPhone 5507 and the 3G module on Ukrainian mobile networks.

The list of programs preinstalled on the MultiPhone 5507 DUO model can be seen in the screenshots below.

Battery

The 2000 mAh battery built into the smartphone under test, although not very durable, can please its owner. The pre-installed Battery Doctor utility comes to the rescue. In it, you can turn on the smart saving mode or “Super saving”, which will allow you to more rationally distribute the battery charge.

In practice, a smartphone consumes a little more than 20% of its charge in 30 minutes of playing Asphalt 8 with Wi-Fi turned on and the screen backlight at maximum brightness. Under the same conditions, while watching HD video, 20% of the charge is gone within an hour. When surfing the net - 30% per hour.

Camera

Prestigio MultiPhone 5507 DUO received 2 MP. front camera, but unlike the 5508 we recently reviewed, there is no front-facing flash.

The capabilities of the front photo module are limited to shooting video in HD resolution and photos of average quality. Software it can recognize faces. We were able to simultaneously identify four faces in the frame. The settings menu is not very friendly, but you can figure it out. HDR mode is available, you can adjust ISO, sharpness, select photo quality and more.

The main camera is equipped with a module with an 8-megapixel matrix, autofocus and the ability to enable image stabilization when shooting video. Videos can be recorded in HD resolution or lower. The camera also allows you to take panoramic photos. Pictures turn out good only when there is sufficient lighting; those taken outdoors are better. You can also take photos while recording video.

conclusions

Prestigio MultiPhone 5507 DUO is a truly multifunctional “hard worker”, the price of which really corresponds to its internal filling and appearance. On the side of this smartphone there is a 5-inch HD display covered with Gorilla Glass, the ability to expand the built-in storage with memory cards, two slots for SIM cards and hardware that can handle HD video and arcade racing Asphalt 8.

Some people won’t like the average battery life, but remember - the price of the handset on the day this review was published is only 2199 UAH. And this is a very interesting offer today, which is worth taking a closer look at when choosing a smartphone at the junction of the budget and mid-price segments.

Accelerometer(or G-sensor) - sensor of the device’s position in space. As a main function, the accelerometer is used to automatically change the orientation of the image on the display (vertical or horizontal). Also, the G-sensor is used as a pedometer; it can control various functions of the device by turning or shaking.
Gyroscope- a sensor that measures rotation angles relative to a fixed coordinate system. Capable of measuring rotation angles in several planes simultaneously. A gyroscope together with an accelerometer allows you to accurately determine the position of the device in space. Devices that use only accelerometers have lower measurement accuracy, especially when moving quickly. Also, the capabilities of the gyroscope can be used in modern games for mobile devices.
Light sensor- a sensor that sets the optimal brightness and contrast values for a given light level. The presence of a sensor allows you to increase the battery life of the device.
Proximity sensor- a sensor that detects when the device is close to your face during a call, turns off the backlight and locks the screen, preventing accidental clicks. The presence of a sensor allows you to increase the battery life of the device.
Geomagnetic sensor- a sensor for determining the direction of the world in which the device is directed. Tracks the orientation of the device in space relative to the magnetic poles of the Earth. The information received from the sensor is used in mapping programs for terrain orientation.
Atmospheric pressure sensor- sensor for precise measurement of atmospheric pressure. It is part of the GPS system, allows you to determine altitude above sea level and speed up location determination.
Touch ID- fingerprint identification sensor.

Satellite navigation:

GPS(Global Positioning System) is a satellite navigation system that provides measurements of distance, time, speed and determines the location of objects anywhere on Earth. The system is developed, implemented and operated by the US Department of Defense. The basic principle of using the system is to determine location by measuring distances to an object from points with known coordinates - satellites. The distance is calculated by the delay time of signal propagation from sending it by the satellite to receiving it by the antenna of the GPS receiver.
GLONASS(Global Navigation Satellite System) - Soviet and Russian satellite navigation system, developed by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense. The measurement principle is similar to the American GPS navigation system. GLONASS is designed for operational navigation and timing support for land, sea, air and space-based users. The main difference from the GPS system is that GLONASS satellites in their orbital motion do not have resonance (synchrony) with the rotation of the Earth, which provides them with greater stability.

Display type: LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) - Liquid crystal displays. The very first displays used in mobile devices, and not only in phones. Their main feature is that they have very low power consumption, due to the inability to display color images. They do not emit light and therefore phones are upgraded with backlight lamps. Some phones had several different backlight colors based on the presence of different LEDs around the perimeter of the display. This extraordinary solution was used, for example, in the Ericsson A3618 phone. On this type of display, pixels are clearly visible, and such displays cannot boast of high resolution. In order to extend the life of such displays, they were made inverse, i.e. text and symbols were not displayed as filled pixels, but, on the contrary, inactive against the background of filled ones. This resulted in light text on a dark background. Currently, this type of display is used in the cheapest budget models (Nokia 1112) and as an external display in some clamshells (Samsung D830).

TFT (Thin Film Transistor) - Liquid crystal displays based on thin film transistors with an active matrix. For each pixel there are three transistors corresponding to three colors (RGB - red, green, blue). At the moment, these are the most common displays and have a number of advantages over other displays. They are characterized by minimal response time and rapid development - ever-increasing resolution and number of colors. These displays are most common in mid-range and higher phones. Working resolutions for them: 128x160, 132x176, 176x208, 176x220, 240x320 and others, less common. Examples: Nokia N73 (240x320, 262K colors), Sony Ericsson K750i (176x220, 262K colors), Samsung D900 (240x320, 262K colors). TFTs are very rarely used as external displays for clamshells.

CSTN (Color Super Twisted Nematic) - Color liquid crystal displays with a passive matrix. Each pixel of such a display consists of three combined pixels, which correspond to three colors (RGB). Some time ago, almost all phones with color displays were based on this type. And now the destiny of such displays is budget models. The main disadvantage of such displays is their slowness. The undoubted advantage of such displays is their cost, which is significantly lower than TFT. Based on simple logic, we can assume that in the future TFT will displace this type of display from the mobile device market. The color evolution of such displays is quite extensive: from 16 to 65536 colors. Examples: Motorola V177 (128x160, 65K colors), Sony Ericsson J100i (96x64, 65K colors), Nokia 2310 (96x68, 65K colors).

UFB (Ultra Fine and Bright) - Liquid crystal displays with increased brightness and contrast on a passive matrix. We can say that this is an intermediate option between CSTN and TFT. This type of display boasts lower power consumption compared to TFT. For the most part, Samsung used such displays in mid-range phones. This type of display is not widely used. Examples: Samsung C100/110 (128x128, 65k colors).

TN is one of the matrix types of TFT screens. Roughly speaking, TN are the simplest and cheapest TFT matrices. Viewing angles are the narrowest.
