Obtaining Root (root) rights to HTC Desire HD. Obtaining Root (root) rights to HTC Desire HD Root access using the KINGROOT program

I think many of you have heard this expression, but not many understand what it is (not to mention how to do it). Now I will help you figure it out.

The article consists of the following sections:

What are root rights and why are they needed at all?

When you buy a new smartphone, you notice a lot of programs on it that, let’s say, as is, you don’t need at all. In one of the articles, we looked at the problems that interfere with your work with your phone. But what happens if you can't remove them. At the same time, they also take up space in memory!
So, root rights mean full access to the system. You can do whatever you want, from changing the icon on a system app to uninstalling it.

It's worth knowing that There are three classes of root rights. Full Root - full and permanent rights without any restrictions. Shell Root – permanent root, but without access to change the system folder (\system). Temporary Root - temporary root rights.

In addition, depending on the device model and its firmware, it is not always possible to obtain full superuser rights; in turn, temporary root can always be obtained. For the most part, temporary root rights are provided by most applications that are available on PlayMarket.

Key benefits of full access:

  • ability to work with system applications;
  • the ability to “give” any application full access to the system;
  • unlimited work with the interface: change icons, themes (which can be done not only thanks to launchers), system sounds, greetings and pictures or animations when turned on;
  • full access to the bootloader, which allows you to change the firmware without difficulty;
  • the ability to install applications directly onto the memory card;
  • a backup copy with all applications that were installed on the system at that time;
  • a special system manager that allows you to see and edit previously hidden system files.

And the last thing to tell you before moving on to the practical part is this is a warning:

  • you will lose the warranty on the device;
  • you can damage the operating system if you do things you are not sure about. Therefore: delete, add, change, but only if you are confident in the correctness of your actions.

Basic ways to get root access

Naturally, there are special programs that make this easier. I will roughly divide them into two types:

  • PC programs;
  • programs for an Android device.

Below I will tell you about the main ones and teach you how to use them. But first you will have to learn how to perform the actions that you will need in any of the ways:

  • connect the device in USB debugging mode;
  • Allow installation of applications from unknown sources.

USB debugging mode

The algorithm of actions is quite simple and similar on devices with any version of Android OS.
1. Go to the settings of your device and select the “Accessibility” section, the “For Developers” item.

2. Set the switch to the “on” position opposite the “USB Debugging” item. Confirm your decision.

3. After connecting the device to the PC, you will see a message in the notification bar about enabling debugging.

Permission to install from unknown sources
Go to settings, go to the security section. Set the switch to the “on” position next to the “Unknown sources” item.

That's it, we're done with the preparation, now let's move directly to root rights.

Full access using PC programs

In this section, I will talk in detail about how to root your android device using some PC software.

Root access using the Kingo Android Root program

1. Download Kingo Android ROOT program to your PC.

2. Install the program.

One of the screenshots when installing the KingoRoot program

4. Next, launch the Kingo Android ROOT program. Only after this, connect your device to the PC via USB cable.

5. When the device is detected and all drivers are installed, click “ROOT”. The process of hacking the system will begin. When it is done, reboot your device.

I hope everything is clear to you. Let's move on to the next method.

Root access using the VROOT program

If you were unable to get root access using the previous program, then most likely your Android device is made in China. Therefore, try to do approximately the same thing using the VROOT program. Below are instructions.
1. Download the program from the official website to your PC. Yes, it is worth noting that it is in Chinese, so be careful. Click the green button to download as shown in the picture.

2. Now install the program. The installation process is identical to any other, just look at the pictures and follow it. Don't forget to check the box to launch the application (last screenshot).

3. Now you need to enable USB Debugging Mode on your device and allow installation of applications from unknown sources.

4. Connect the device via USB cable. And click the "Root" button. Wait for the root access process to complete.

These are, in my opinion, the two best programs in this category. Just follow all the steps as described above and you will succeed.

Full access using Android programs

In this section, I will show you how to get root rights using Android programs. All actions will need to be performed directly from your Android device.

Root access using the KINGROOT program

(Since the article was written earlier, today, the application interface has changed somewhat. The old option for obtaining root rights will be described below, and in the second part of the article we will describe the capabilities of the utility provided to us today. IMPORTANT to note that the process of installing the program and obtaining root rights - did not change).

This is a fairly easy-to-use program, which is why it is the most popular.
1. First, download the installation file from the official website directly from your device (this will be easier than from a computer). Click "Free Download". Confirm saving the file. The screenshot clearly shows the site address and also shows what needs to be done. You can see the download status in the notification bar.

Note: When downloading the installation file, it is advisable to have a high-speed Internet connection via WiFi.
2. Now you need to install the application. Before doing this, allow installation from unknown sources. Then go to the downloads directory and click on the appropriate file. Everything is shown in the pictures, please be careful.

3. Now install the application by clicking on the “Install” button.

4. Find the Kingroot application shortcut on one of your desktops. Click on it to launch. Immediately the application will begin to determine the model of your device, as well as whether it is already rooted.

5. Now that the definition is over, click on the “TRY TO ROOT” button to get root rights. And wait for the device to reboot, which will inform you that the process of hacking the system is over.

King Root program update

In the updated version of the program, the developers paid tribute to security, namely, built-in protection against malware, optimization of boot processes, and improved system capabilities that speed up smartphones. After completing the previously described steps, the user will see the following download window:

So, in the right corner there will be information about the status of your root rights. At the bottom of this function there is a field that allows you to track the authorization of a number of applications installed on the smartphone and control their access to the system directory.

The start window looks like this:

By clicking the “Security” button, KingRoot optimizes all processes and displays a report:

Root access using OneClickRoot program

Unfortunately, this program no longer works for free (a couple of years have passed since this article was written). At the office The site only has a paid version for $30.

This program is much lighter than the previous one and, moreover, immediately after scanning it tells you whether it can open root access to your device.

  1. I won't tell you much about how to download and install the application. You need to perform all the steps similarly to the case described above. Everything (including the official website) is visible in the pictures. Just follow the instructions.

2. After opening the application, you will immediately be prompted to get root. So click on “Root Device”. Then scan your device to see if the program can provide root access to your system. If not, you will see a message like in the third screenshot. You can click “Notify Me” if you want to be informed when the program can help you.

3. If it is still possible to grant you root rights, you will see a screen like this. Click "Root Device".

Root ToolCase – get root capabilities with one click

This is a universal application that allows you to configure and manage your smartphone without any restrictions, remove unnecessary utilities, and much more without root rights. After installing the program from PlayMarket, we will see the following window:

IMPORTANT, this program does not root the device, but provides a number of system features that are not available without installing it (information from the developers in the image below).

The application's start window prompts us to select what we need, namely:

The user can customize the smart startup process, access safe mode if problems arise, and also reset to factory settings by pressing just one key.

  1. App Manager

Allows you to edit installed applications (including system ones) and even remove malware that cannot be removed using built-in protection systems.

  1. Additional system settings.

Ability to work in the ADB development environment using wireless networks, mounting partitions, changing the language, etc.The Build.prop Editor allows you to change ROM properties. An installer function for flash devices is available, which makes it possible to configure almost any functionality on the phone, thereby making it completely individual.

Toverloop

A kind of “veteran of the root”. A well-known application that works on almost all devices with old Android firmware (up to version 5 inclusive). Despite this, it is very popular because the rooting process is possible in one click. A list of devices available for upgrade is on the application website.

Rooting Android 7 and above

Traditional methods of obtaining super user rights on new types of devices do not always give positive results. Installing the application will only allow you to control some functions of your smartphone, but not become super su.

We will provide a short guide for OS version 7 and higher.

  1. It is mandatory to unlock the Bootloader on your smartphone. Depending on the model and firmware, this procedure will be slightly different.
  2. Go to “developer mode” (again, depending on the model, this menu item may be in different places) and enable “USB debugging”.
  3. Download the development environment - Android SDK Platform Tools - to your PC.
  4. On a specialized website we find the custom firmware we need for your smartphone, usually TWRP.

5. After flashing, our initial TWRP window loads, select Recovery Mode using the volume keys, confirm the selection by point-pressing the power button.

Brief summary

Just above, I told you in great detail exactly how to get root access to the system of your Android device, as well as what this root access actually is.

I have provided you with detailed instructions on how to use the most popular effective software. But know that there are other programs. Try, if it doesn’t work with one, it will work with the other. Good luck!

Unlocking the bootloader, installing recovery, getting root, flashing Custom ROM

At the moment, there is very little information on unlocking the HTC One X, and this is not surprising, since the model appeared relatively recently.
In this manual, I will describe how to unlock the bootloader, install a modified recovery and use it to subsequently gain root rights or flash custom firmware.

Remember, unlocking the bootloader through the official website htcdev.com is irreversible and after unlocking you will lose the warranty.
[My note: officially on htcdev it is written that you will only lose the warranty on software, not hardware (if the kernel has not been flashed)]

Part 1
Unlock BootLoader

So the first thing we need is to download and install HTC Sync from the official HTC website. [My note: I didn't need HTC Sync]
Next in order:
Go to the link www.htcdev.com/ and create yourself an account on HTCDEV.
Download fastboot files: fastboot.zip (172.94 KB) Number of downloads: 5250
Create a new folder on your C: drive and name it Android.
Extract the downloaded ZIP from step 2 into the folder you created.
Go to www.htcdev.com/bootloader/, select All Other Supported Models in the list of devices and then click on the begin unlock bootloader button

Answer “Yes” to the question. Check both boxes, click next
Go to step 8 on HTC Dev, since we already have everything we need and what we are asked to do over the next 7 steps.

[(Windows XP - Click Start > Run >
(Windows 7 - Click Start >
Code
CD C:\Android
Now enter
Code
fastboot oem get_identifier_token
In the command line you will see a whole bunch of inscriptions, right-click and select “mark”, then use the keyboard arrows to go to the line<<<< Identifier Token Start >>>>,
hold down the SHIFT button and also use the keyboard buttons to select what is indicated in the figure below:
Reduced by 43%

700 x 531 (202.89 KB)

To copy the selection, right-click on the text.
Paste the copied code into the field at the bottom of the page, click the SUBMIT button and very soon you will receive a letter from HTCDev with a link to the second part of the instructions and the “Unlock_code.bin” file attached to the letter.
Download “Unlock_code.bin” from your email and save it to the Android folder that we created in the 3rd step in the root of the C: drive.
Enter at the command line:
Code
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
A message will appear on the phone's display asking you to confirm your intentions to unlock the bootloader, press the Volume + button to select YES and confirm by briefly pressing the Power button.

Part 2
Flashing custom Recovery and installing custom firmware
Download CWM recovery from here.
Place the file you downloaded in the same folder where the Android files are located, that is, C:\Android
Hold the power button for 10 seconds, the phone will flash the touch buttons several times and begin to reboot. You need to press and hold the volume down button as soon as the screen goes dark, the phone will reboot into the bootloader. If you did this but the phone just turned off, then turn on the phone by holding the Power and Volume Down buttons
Select Fastboot. Navigate through the menu items using the volume keys, and to select, briefly press the power button.
Connect your phone to your computer and open Command Prompt.
(Windows XP - Click Start > Run > type CMD in the box and press Enter)
(Windows 7 - Click Start > type CMD in the search box and press Enter)
Using the command line, navigate to the folder where we placed the files:
Code
CD C:\Android
Now enter on the command line:
Code
fastboot flash recovery name_downloaded_recovery.img
Hold the power button for 10 seconds, the phone will flash the touch buttons several times and begin to reboot. You need to press and hold the volume down button as soon as the screen goes dark, the phone will reboot into the bootloader. If you did this but the phone just turned off, then turn on the phone by holding the Power and Volume Down buttons
Select Recovery. Navigate through the menu items using the volume keys, and to select, briefly press the power button. The phone will reboot and you will be taken to CWM Recovery.
Select backup and restore
Select backup and wait, when the operation is complete you will see a message on the smartphone screen “Backup succesfully completed”.
Select Reboot System Now and wait until the phone reboots.

Part 3
Root or Custom
Now we have 2 options - just get root or sew custom.
[My note: as a proponent of the drain, I advise the first, because. There’s nothing useful in custom yet]

Attention! The firmware can take about 10 minutes to unpack. Before flashing the firmware, be sure to charge the device to at least 70%.

So, to get root on stock firmware, you need to download and flash this archive via CWM Recovery:
CWM-SuperSU-v0.96.zip (668.12 KB)Number of downloads: 1442

So we downloaded the archive in ZIP form, you need to put it into the memory of your phone (without unpacking), then reboot into recovery and do this:
install zip from sd card
Choose zip from sdcard and find the file we downloaded there, select it and confirm “YES”
After installation reboot system now.

That's it, now we have root rights

To flash a custom one, you need to download it, I tried several firmwares and stopped
on LeeDrOiD One Xtreme V2.2.0 (Description on XDA).
I’ll pour a little water on why this particular firmware.
The first thing I didn’t like about the stock firmware was the strip with three dots at the bottom of the screen for applications written under 2.3 and with support for the hardware menu button. In this firmware, the button for viewing recently launched applications now works as a hardware menu button, and to get a list of recently launched applications, you need to hold down the house as before
2 - Select reboot options. Availability of the Russian language without installing More Locale, full support for Landscape mode and customization of the status bar.
3 - Cut out a little extra, the rest that was not needed was cut out myself using Root Uninstaller Pro

So let's get started
We downloaded the latest firmware and here are the installation instructions:
Copy the archive we downloaded to the device’s memory.
Reboot into CWM recovery
Select wipe data\factory reset
Select wipe cache
Select Install zip from sd-card
Select the item Choose Zip from sd-card and find the file we downloaded in memory, select it and confirm “YES”
The Aroma installer’s own menu will pop up and offer you a choice of what to do, what to install and what to delete, it’s not difficult, I think you’ll figure it out.
After the entire procedure, you will see the message Install from sd-card successfully completed.
Select Reboot system now.

There are several ways to open Root access for smartphone.

First, through the menu CWM Recovery. I’ll describe it point by point, but first I want to remind you that the bootloader must be unlocked. Well, now let's talk about everything in order.

  1. You need to download “CWM Recovery” to your PC; the program is very popular, and therefore it is very easy to do.
  2. Rename the downloaded recovery to “recovery.img”
  3. Find and download the archive from “ADB”.
  4. In the root of drive D: create a folder and change the name to “Root”.
  5. Extract the “ADB” archive to a new folder.
  6. Turn off the phone, remove the battery from it for a couple of seconds, and put it back in place.
  7. Press “Power” and “Volume -” until the engineering menu loads.
  8. On your smartphone, select “Fasboot” and press “Power”. Moving up and down the menu is done using the “Volume +, -” buttons.
  9. We connect the smartphone and computer with a USB cable.
  10. Open the command line on the PC and write the commands in it
    - D:
    - cd D:/android
    - fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
  11. Once the installation is complete, select “power down” on your smartphone.
  12. Download the archive with root and transfer it to the device’s memory card.
  13. Turn on the phone in bootloader mode.
  14. Select the “recovery” item and press “Power”.
  15. Next, click on “install zip from sd card”.
  16. After installation is complete, reboot your smartphone.

Root access to your smartphone is now obtained.

Method No. 2

Obtaining rights using the program Universal Root.

Everything is simple here. First, remove the block from the bootloader. Then we download this application and copy it to the memory card. In the smartphone settings, check the “Install from an unknown source” checkbox. Next, find our application on the memory card and click on it once. Your smartphone may give you the message “This application may harm your device,” ignore it and click continue. After installation, open the program and click on “Root”. We reboot your htc and that’s it, the rights are obtained. It is worth noting that this is not a 100% option and may not root the device or damage system data, so it is best to create a restore point or synchronize the data.

Method No. 3

Installation from a memory card. Loading the archive. Change the archive name to “update.zip” and move it to the root of the memory card. Turn on the smartphone in bootloader mode. After a couple of minutes, the program will automatically find the update archive and offer installation. Use the “Volume” key to select “Yes”, the firmware will begin. Upon completion, you need to reboot the device and delete the archive from the memory card so that the next time you boot, the program does not start installing updates again.

I once wrote about my smartphone HTC Wildfire S, which I got almost for nothing, broken and on which I . That was half the battle, right? how to root HTC Wildfire S then it became a priority for me.

But getting root on this smartphone was not as easy as on my Lenovo tablet, or even more so on another one. Therefore, I tried several methods and will now tell you about the two most interesting ones.

How to root HTC via Unlock Root?

On the net I found the Unlock root program, which is designed specifically for getting root on HTC. First, let's go to the website UnlockROOT and see if your model is supported?

As you can see, my model exists, like many others, and it’s just wonderful. Now we download the program itself. There are three versions of the program on the website:

We download the software we need and try to flash the smartphone. Yes, you will need Windows for this :)

Here, below, you can download instructions for the firmware and drivers for your device. And without installing drivers, firmware is simply not possible.

I won’t describe the whole process in detail now, since I already got root on my smartphone, but in a different way.

How to root HTC using Unlocking Bootloader?

There is also another way to obtain root rights on HTC smartphones. Let's go to the site htcdev.com and select your smartphone model.

After that, click on the green button and follow the step-by-step instructions. Yes, don't forget to register on the site first :)

I was able to get root on Android on HTC using this exact method, although you may succeed first, a lot depends on the phone model and where and when it was manufactured. Here is the last thirteenth step, after which I received the long-awaited root:

Unfortunately, I can’t describe everything step by step, since I was flashing it a month ago and now I regret that I didn’t document it right away, but I’m glad that I at least saved a couple of screenshots.

If you have any difficulties, then write, I will try to help with advice, if I can of course :)

P.S. A simpler and more universal way to get root rights in Android is described in.

Method 2 is unlock, on mine it was only possible to do it with the help of JuopunutBear for S-OFF

Alexander, thanks for the addition. I think there are quite a few ways, I only wrote about what I used myself.

Although root on this smartphone did not give much, there is still little internal memory space.

I mean that this is the 1st stage of getting root - unlocking the bootloader, then usually installing a custom recovery and some Superuser.

Alexander, yes, I understand. Indeed, you first need to unlock the bootloader, and then things will get easier :)
