We have no doubt that PS4 is the modern king of gaming. With a wide range of great games across all genres such as FPS, JRPG, Battle Royal and more, now is the best time to own the best Sony Playstation console.
Despite this, many have friends who do not agree that PS4 is the best console, so they prefer Xbox, PC or Nintendo. Despite this, they remain our friends and we will still be able to play some games with them. We are lucky that there are now cross-platform games on the market on PS4 that we can enjoy together with our friends, regardless of their device.
Fortnite
Fortnite is an online massive brawl where 100 players jump out of a flying craft onto a small island and then fight each other until only one remains. Weapons and items are hidden throughout the island: rifles, traps, grenade launchers and more. Players need to equip themselves in the best way possible while exploring buildings. It is also possible to collect resources that will allow you to create structures in which you can hide or protect yourself. As the match continues, the available area of land continually decreases, so the competitors get closer and closer to each other. The last one standing is the winner. Due to the fact that the game has multiplayer, this is one of the best cross-platform PS4 games.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

It's fair to say that Rainbow Six Siege had a disastrous launch in December 2015, with mixed reviews and lackluster sales. Common complaints were a lack of content and a host of technical issues that plagued the game's early days, while poor sales can largely be attributed to the launch after Call of Duty Black Ops 3 and Star Wars Battlefront overshadowed the title.
Two years later, Rainbow Six Siege eclipses both of those games combined. Instead of abandoning the project, Ubisoft redoubled its efforts and remained committed to the idea of Siege, turning it into one of the most popular shooters on the market.
The main reason for this success is Siege's strong foundation. Two teams of five players face off in a match where three rounds must be won to win the match. There are no respawns during the round, and teams alternate between attackers and defenders.
Diablo III

The latest game in a series that is considered one of the best in gaming history, Diablo III is another amazing game that almost failed. Diablo III, riddled with bugs when it launched in 2012, has grown into one of the best RPGs on the market. When creating the game, the developers implemented a control scheme that is simple, responsive and effective no matter what platform you play on. With Blizzard's Battle.net service, players can quickly and easily jump in and out of co-op sessions, allowing you to play with friends in challenging environments if you so choose. The only downside is that, regardless of system, Diablo III requires you to be online at all times, even for its single-player playthrough. Despite this, Diablo 3 is the best multi-platform RPG game on PS4.
Grand Theft Auto Online

If the fact that it's the best-selling entertainment product in history doesn't tell you anything, there's nothing more I can say to convince you. With over $6 billion in revenue, GTAV is one of the best games in the GTA series. Offering the ability to switch between three distinct and unforgettable heroes, as well as the ability to shoot, punch, explode, drive, swim and fly through any obstacles in your path, GTAV offers you an absolutely insane open world gameplay experience. The game's online mode allows players to share this chaos with others around the world and is constantly updated with new content.
The company’s readiness to introduce support for cross-platform multiplayer between Xbox One and other platforms, including PlayStation 4. Six months later, the company’s marketing director Aaron Greenberg spoke about Microsoft’s desire to implement such an opportunity. The decision rests with the main competitor, but judging by a recent comment from Sony Interactive Entertainment's head of global sales and marketing Jim Ryan, such an opportunity is unlikely to ever arise.
“You shouldn’t think that he takes some kind of fundamental philosophical position that dictates the rejection of [support for cross-platform multiplayer], Ryan said in an interview with Eurogamer, adding that Sony is always interested in collaborating with other companies on such issues. — Unfortunately, this is a forced commercial decision made by us taking into account the interests of shareholders. I won't go into details."
During the Microsoft press conference held as part of the E3 2017 exhibition, Mojang studio talked about adding support for cross-platform multiplayer in Minecraft on almost all modern platforms - except PlayStation 4. Citing this game as an example, Ryan tried to justify the lack of such an opportunity on the Sony console with concern for young gamers.
“We must remember our responsibility for the users of our platforms,- he said. — We all know that Minecraft is played by people of all ages, including young children. We have an agreement with users that obliges us to look after them when they go online. They must be located exclusively within the PlayStation ecosystem - otherwise children will be exposed to some external influences. We need to think about this carefully.” “For Nintendo, which probably cares more about children than others, for some reason such a problem does not exist,” A Eurogamer journalist responded to this statement, to which he received a vague response from Ryan: “Everyone makes decisions that they consider to be correct.”
Speaking to GameSpot this week, Microsoft Game Studios general manager Dave McCarthy said the companies are already discussing the possibility of introducing this feature, but so far the talks have come to nothing. Unlike Sony, Nintendo, according to the executive, has proven itself in this regard as "wonderful partner", immediately agreeing to the proposal. , for example, will allow owners of the PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions to play together when it arrives on the third of these platforms this winter.
Sony is not opposed to cross-platform multiplayer between PlayStation 4 and PC. Users of these two platforms can play games with each other, including Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
As we remember, this summer serious passions flared up around the cross-platform functionality of Sony consoles (or rather, the lack thereof). For several months after this, Sony, as they say, lay low. The issue was not raised for a long time, and everyone had already decided that no significant changes should be expected in the near future.
However, it was in vain that we were so quickly disappointed in the Japanese company, very in vain. Today, Fortnite fans can start dancing the jig (or those crazy Fortnite dances) as Sony finally turned their anger into mercy. And there were prerequisites for such a decision, which not everyone remembers. Today Gamebox decided to resurrect all the facts about the PlayStation 4 cross-platform that you might not know about or have forgotten.
PS4 now has full support for Fortnite cross-play
Let's start with the latest news for those who missed it all. Yesterday, Fortnite launched full-fledged multiplayer across all platforms. Sony that this decision marks the beginning of a new company policy, which has already been supported by Microsoft. On September 26, Fortnite added support for cross-play between all platforms, including Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PS4. For now, cross-play in Fortnite is available as part of the open testing stage that has begun, the timing of which the company will announce later.
On this occasion, Microsoft has already remembered the meme about the most ambitious crossover in history, which, after Sony’s decision, became Fortnite.
Sony's initial position was different
However, Sony's policies regarding cross-play in Fortnite and cross-platforms in general have not always been so open. For starters, the company argued that it doesn't see the point in this, since the PS4 consoles are the best of their kind. Sony's desire to limit its players in every possible way from the “harmful influence” of other console gamers even hit the Japanese company in the wallet. Sony shares showed a sharp decline in early June.
An additional reason for dissatisfaction was that after the release of Fortnite on Nintendo Switch, gamers noticed that they could not log in to this platform using accounts created on PS4. Few people switch between Xbox One and PS4 consoles due to their similar form factor (usually a player only owns one of these consoles), but the portable Nintendo Switch offers gamers a completely different gaming experience.
According to NPD Group, more than 40% of Switch owners are also PS4 owners. Simply put, people were unpleasantly surprised when they found out that their upgraded Epic Games accounts from PS4 could not be used on Nintendo Switch.
Competitors and gamers joked a lot about Sony's position
As you understand, gamers reacted extremely negatively to the news that Sony is actively opposing cross-platform. And competitors did not fail to take advantage of this. Nintendo later released a promotional video for the Minecraft update, which focuses on cross-platform multiplayer between Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Windows 10, Android and iOS.
At the same time, Nintendo was not only not afraid to mention the name of other consoles, but also demonstrated its direct competitors in the video, urging players to “Create, explore and survive together.” Sony's policy in the context of open cooperation between their competitors (gamers especially liked the motto “Survive together”) became the reason for many jokes.
Sony first talked about softening its position back in June
The head of Sony Interactive Entertainment America, Sean Layden, said that the company is still looking for an opportunity to meet gamers halfway within the framework of the Gamelab conference in Spain. When asked by Eurogamer journalists about cross-platform multiplayer, Leiden replied that the company has heard the community's request, and Sony is working to find solutions to this problem.
However, he also noted that this is a complex issue that concerns more than one game. Layden explained that Sony needs to carefully consider all the options to find one that will appeal to gamers and will satisfy the company's business conditions.
Sony's new policy can't change everything
Despite the fact that Sony’s position has undergone major changes since July, and even the first full-fledged title has appeared that supports cross-play between all popular platforms, the fate of upcoming games in this regard is not clear, or not at all so rosy. Recently, for example, it became known that everyone will have to play Fallout 76 within their own platforms.
Immediately after the news from Sony appeared, head of marketing Pete Hines noted on Twitter that pross-play functions should not be expected in Fallout 76 in the near future, and there are a number of reasons for this. At the same time, he reacted positively to the gesture from the Japanese company, and even left an applauding emoticon in his tweet.
Folks, chill. I work with a lot of devs and games for whom this is important going forward.
Fallout 76 does not support crossplay, for a number of reasons. I have no idea if it ever will. But I assure you it is not on our radar right now as we focus on B.E.T.A. and Launch.
At a time when games for consoles were mostly written by console manufacturers themselves, there was no such thing as cross-platform gaming. Of course, the main gaming monsters of that time like Super Mario and Mortal Kombat came straight to the players' homes straight from the arcade, but otherwise even the very idea that you could play the same game on different consoles seemed crazy. After all, it was the era of the famous “console wars”, which gave the world many great games, powerful consoles and funny memes.
Games in those days were written specifically for specific console models. And vice versa, special devices and even entire consoles were produced, adapted for specific games. For example, those over 25 remember the famous light gun from Dendy, which was essentially only needed for two games (and no, it did not damage the picture tube!).
The situation began to change as the personal computer ceased to be an exclusive attribute of office plankton and began to appear in every home. Games that only work on PCs have sprung up like mushrooms after rain. Moreover, they were usually written after school by a couple of bespectacled students in dad’s garage.
With great surprise to themselves, the gaming monsters discovered that consoles were selling worse and worse, and the treasured money was beginning to flow into the pockets of small studios. And as you know, when you can’t win something, you need to lead it. This is exactly what Nintendo managed to do, buying the rights to the then exclusively computer Tetris and re-releasing it for its GameBoy. This is how the Japanese managed to overcome the crisis, and Tetris became one of the first cross-platform games.
Many years have passed since then, but no clear answer has emerged as to what is better – exclusives or multi-platform games. On the one hand, game development has long been carried out mainly by studios not associated with hardware manufacturers, for which it is simply not profitable to limit the circle of potential buyers to any one ecosystem. On the other hand, exclusivity brings studios easy money from console manufacturers, gives the player a sense of elitism, and allows developers to optimize the game for a specific platform configuration.
In addition, the quality and release date of the game often varies from platform to platform (remember the epic porting of GTA 4 to PC), and the need to take into account the interests of console players when writing computer games often leads to simplified gameplay (hello to the TES series) and an inconvenient interface when playing on PC (the GTA and TES series suffered again).
But in the case of online games, cross-platform is a huge advantage. After all, the number of players in itself is an asset of an online game, so it is important to attract the widest possible audience. It is not surprising that recently more and more cross-platform online games have been released, in which console players and PC fans can finally fight each other. The most striking examples are Sea of Thieves, Fortnite and, of course, Rocket League. Therefore, we decided to compile a list of games that you can play online both on a computer and on a console, and sometimes even from a tablet or smartphone.
Final Fantasy XV
Final Fantasy XV is an action JRPG with cross-platform multiplayer, available on PS 4, Xbox One and PC with Microsoft Windows. As in the rest of the “finals”, its plot is in no way connected with the rest of the series. And the entire gameplay of this game is reoriented towards dynamic action, in which the player controls not a whole party, but one single character.
In general, only the name and general style remain from Final Fantasy. It seems that even the developers themselves were not ready for such significant changes, because they had to wait a whole 10 years for the game to be released. But in the end, we got a huge open world, a dynamic hack-and-slash game instead of half-hour cutscenes and four GGs that you really empathize with.
World of Tanks
If all Wargaming’s plans to exploit the popular franchise come true, then in the morning, after drinking coffee from a mug with the WoT logo, you will go to work in a car with a WoT sticker. In traffic jams you will play World of Tanks Blitz on a smart phone. Constantly looking at your watch in the form of a tank, you will finish your work day and rush home to play WoT on your PC.
In a couple of hours, your son will drag you into platoon tanks with him on PS4. Then your friends will call you and you will go to the pub to play the board game World of Tanks Rush. Having gotten a little tipsy, you will return home, fall asleep and cover yourself with a blanket with a huge Mouse print.
Jokes aside, World of Tanks is an excellent example of how an initially exclusive game can become cross-platform and only benefit from this.
Smite
Smite is one of the few cross-platform MOBA games with a rather unusual setting. After all, it’s not just heroes who are fighting here, but real gods, moreover, borrowed from different historical cultures.
There are a total of 92 gods in the game, belonging to the Greek, Egyptian, Roman, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Scandinavian, Indian and Celtic pantheons. An important difference between the game and many other “Dota killers” is that the camera here does not hang above the arena, but is tied to the game character. This gives a greater effect of presence and increases the challenge, because the situation in other areas of the field can only be judged by the mini-map.
You can play this original game on PS 4 and Xbox One consoles, as well as on a PC with Windows.
War Thunder
By the time the “tundra” finally “kills WoT”, we will all be telling our grandchildren how we walked hundreds of kilometers through the snow to the gaming halls. However, it is worth admitting the obvious - there is no better online flying game in the world now than War Thunder. And even the emphasis placed by the developers on historicity does not spoil the drive of fierce air battles.
A special bonus of this game is that it was released not only on PS4 and PC with Windows, but also for Android devices and PCs with OS X and Linux.
Diablo III
Gone are the days when the pleasure of racing Diablo was available only to PC owners. The continuation of the cult slasher was released immediately on PC, a little later on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, and then visited PS4 and Xbox One. It took a long five years to wait for this game from the moment of its announcement (and if you count from the previous part, it’s all 12), but in this case the wait paid off many times over with excellent quality.
Everything that was loved in the previous parts migrated to the sequel. We will meet again the brutal Barbarian, the mysterious Sorcerer, the pious Monk and other long-loved heroes. And they will be opposed by old, unkind acquaintances in the form of hordes of demons and undead. Even more mochilov, bright and cheerful - that’s the motto of this sequel.
DC Universe Online
DC Universe Online is DC Comics' asymmetrical response to Marvel's total dominance in movie theaters. The MMORPG released by Sony turned out to be surprisingly solid and dynamic for a franchise game.
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is an online collectible card game with cross-platform multiplayer, set in the World of Warcraft. Blizzard rarely throws money down the drain, but in this case even they hardly expected such a stunning success.
Since its release, Hearthstone has regularly been included in lists of the best online games, collecting prestigious gaming awards and attracting thousands of spectators to tournaments. And not without reason, because here we are waiting for familiar heroes, perfect balance, simple and transparent game mechanics, dynamic battles and the ability to hack from almost any PC or smartphone.
Street Fighter V
Street Fighter V is a furious fighting game in which both PC players and lucky PS4 owners will be able to compete. In the game, in addition to old friends like M. Bison and Ryu, we will find several colorful new characters such as the poison lover Feng and the friendly Arab technophile Rashid.
The gameplay has also been slightly reworked - in addition to the usual energy scale (which gives access to special moves) and the stun scale, a special V-Gauge has been added, which grows from the damage received and the use of special abilities. Filling the V-Gauge gives you access to powerful bonuses and skills that can turn the tide of battle (and sometimes the enemy's body) on its head.
Dragon's Dogma Online
Dragon`s Dogma Online is one of the few modern MMORPGs with full cross-platform multiplayer. Players from PC, PS4 and PS3 fight simultaneously on the game's servers in the open world. At the same time, there is no PvP system here, so all that remains is to cooperate with other players and go genocide various mobs.
And if you don’t want to look for party members, the game will kindly provide you with “pawns” - special bots to whom you can give orders. At the same time, the “pawns” also make comments about what is happening on the battlefield.
We can say that Dragon`s Dogma Online is the most single-player of all multiplayer RPGs.
The Japanese company Sony has finally given in and launched support for cross-platform play on the PlayStation 4 console. Support for co-op play on various platforms starts today in beta mode, and Fortnite players will be the first to get the long-awaited opportunity to play in this way.
Support for all gaming platforms has been announced, including PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows and Mac. However, Sony noted that cross-platform will work with “selected third-party projects,” so we can expect that some games will still not be able to be used in this mode.
To explain his position on this matter, Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO John Kodera published an open letter:
“After extensive consideration, SIE has decided that it is necessary to support cross-platform play in third-party projects. We understand that PS4 owners are eagerly awaiting this update and appreciate their patience as we looked into ways to resolve this issue.
The first step will be an open beta test of the new feature as part of the Fortnite project, which will allow us to explore cross-platform compatibility across gameplay, progression and purchases on PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows and Mac. We see this testing as an opportunity to test everything necessary and ensure that cross-platform play on PlayStation is implemented to the highest standard. Of course, we will not forget about achieving maximum results both in technical and social aspects.
For 24 years, we've worked tirelessly to provide our users with the best experiences in the unique PlayStation style. At the moment, the communities of some projects have become so comprehensive that it is no longer possible to deny the need for cross-platform play. Recognizing this, we conducted a thorough analysis of all possible business models to select one that will ensure that the PlayStation owner experience remains inclusive, both now and in the future as we make our platform more open.
This important milestone marks a fundamental change in SIE policy, and we plan to stay the course going forward. As soon as we have news regarding the promotion of the chosen path (including specific dates for beta testing and support for other projects), we will immediately notify you about them.”
Let us remind you that due to the lack of support for cross-platform play, owners of Nintendo Switch consoles, if they previously played this game on the PlayStation 4 console.
