More details:
Shelters. Our house is underground. Radiation does not penetrate here and dangerous animals roaming the Wasteland cannot get through (well, for the most part they cannot... but more on that later). In Fallout 4, you start in Vault 111 and can visit several more vaults as the game progresses. But for the first time in the history of Fallout games, you have the opportunity to create your own Vault, with the help of another add-on called Vault-Tec Workshop, which comes out on July 26 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. This is your chance to build your own Vault and equip it with many new items. In addition, you, as a real Overseer, will be able to conduct experiments on residents. It all starts with a call for help. And, in the Fallout tradition, you will decide what happens next.

How to start:
- You will receive a distress signal from Vault 88, then you can expand the shelter by gaining access to Vault 88 workshops.
- Vault 88 is located between the Suffolk County Private School and the Quincy Ruins. To search, you need to tune into the Vault 88 radio beacon.
- Vault 88 is under attack by Raiders, and inside you need to fight off the ghouls. After which, you will meet a surviving female caretaker who offers us cooperation.
- In the Workshop menu and categories, all new items from this DLC will be marked with a gear icon.

Welcome to Vault 88
- If your level is above 20, then you will receive an emergency message that there is an emergency in Vault 88. After you arrive there and deal with the raiders who are trying to break into the Vault, you will be greeted by a rather strange caretaker. Of all the inhabitants of Vault 88, only she survived - however, she turned into a ghoul. Moreover, the bombs fell before Vault 88 was completed, and she waited 200 years to complete it. But this has not affected her devotion to Vault-Tec in any way - and she dreams of quickly conducting several experiments on unsuspecting residents.
- This is where the main task of Vault-Tec Workshop begins. You interview new residents to find ideal test subjects for sinister experiments. Then you will have to conduct a series of experiments, and the result of each of them will depend on the decisions you make. Will you become a benevolent leader or a cruel tyrant? Or maybe neither one nor the other?
- Your choice of experimental parameters determines what each experimental prototype will ultimately become, so think carefully about your decisions. In any case, at the end of the experiment, a new object will appear in your workshop, and you can build it at any moment.
- This is a Workshop type add-on that contains tasks. Since all this happens in a certain place, we have a real object, and not just a collection of objects.
- But it is not at all necessary to complete the tasks. If you just like to work in the workshop, and you don’t need plot content, then you can simply kill or kick out the poor female Overseer. This will not prevent you from creating base versions of each experimental item.
- If you are not level 20 yet, don't worry: this quest will still be available to you. But listen, you shouldn’t go there until level 20 because the very place where Vault 88 is located is intended for players of at least level 35, and if your level is less than 20, then it will be very difficult for you. And a level 5 player will simply be killed there immediately.

Interior design
- Once you gain access to this huge building, you'll need a ton of stuff to fill it up. It's good that Vault-Tec Corporation has a lot of blueprints for new items. “You can create all kinds of objects that are specifically designed for shelters. Corridors, covered courtyards, rooms, stairs, bridges, doors... all of these are similar to the objects you see when walking around the Vault. All of these objects can be used to make the Vault the way you want it to be.
- In addition to large building parts, you will also have clean furniture, new decorations for the Vault (including Vault Boy and Vault Girl statues), items you create through experiments, and chairs for the hair salon and surgery room. Yes, now you don’t have to limp around to Diamond City just to change your appearance. Now you can simply place one of the residents next to the chair, and he will give you a free haircut and plastic surgery at any time. (Note: This is only valid for your character. Computer characters prefer the faces they already have.)
- If the thought of having to collect incredible amounts of steel to build the Vault scares you, don't worry. “There's a ton of resources in this expansion. The fact is that before the bombing began, everything was already ready for construction to begin, so the materials will already be waiting for you. A significant part of the Vault can be created immediately, without even connecting it with other settlements. And if you break all the items already there, you will get even more resources.
- But even if they run out, you can just look for them inside Vault 88. Be careful: it may happen that you break through the wall and find evil monsters behind it. True, if you deal with them, you will be able to build there too.

To the light
- During construction, you are not limited to just a set of shelters. If you want, you can add barns, warehouses, huts, paintings of cats and everything else to the Vault.
- After completing the tasks, you can move on to other settlements. Everything you create in Vault 88 can be done at any other point where it is possible to create something. You won't be able to dig, but you'll have the chance to build the heavenly Vault you've always dreamed of on Spectacle Island.
“With such a wealth of tools, you can build almost anything and creating it all underground is completely unnecessary.

Bethesda Vault-Tec Workshop DLC Review

Exploring Vault 88 in the new addition Vault-Tec Workshop for assumes unlocking all possible sites for construction in an underground settlement. Also from the sectors you can get to the surface in the Commonwealth. Thanks to the new construction elements that are noted Gear icon (in workshop), players were given the chance to create a shelter of their own design. And if earlier it was necessary to use not the best furniture to furnish homes, now clean items from the pre-war years appeared. In Vault 88, all settlers can receive matching blue suits and a Pipboy.

Below we will look in detail at where there are construction sites in the new shelter, and what their features are. For unlocking all three sectors you can get Better Living Undergroud achievement/trophy.

Fallout 4: Vault-Tec - all sectors in Vault 88

Vault 88 Lobby. To gain access you must complete the task “ The best life is underground" Then access to the task " Explore Vault 88", which will allow you to unlock three sectors: Northeast, eastern, northern.

In each sector you need to activate a workshop, for which you will initially need to find the Vault-Tek Control Board. Each board is located in its own sector. After activating the workshop, go through the sector again with the construction mode active and clear the rubble and walls in order to open new passages and mines with uranium, bosses, mobs and nuclear material.

Northern sector in Vault 88 Fallout 4: Vault-Tec

In the underground. From the lobby, turn strictly left, remove the rubble and go through the cave down and through the tunnels. Sooner or later you will reach the metro. You will need a second tunnel, where turn left and there will be a Control Board on the wall on the nightstand near the container.

Opposite there is a wooden boarded up door. If you remove it and climb the stairs, you can exit the shelter to the surface in the area Milton Hospital (traffic hatch).

Here it is located the only source of water for the settlement in Vault 88 - Vault-Tec water pump. There is no quest for it. After you activate the sector and the workshop, connect it to the generator. The peculiarity of the station is that the connection box is very high. Therefore, it is more convenient to place the generator on some hill. Build a small platform from ladders and floors, for example, near the pump itself. After that, click Activate.

For unlocking all three sectors you can get achievement/trophy Better Living Undergroud. In addition, in each sector in workshop mode, look for walls and remove them. Behind them, passages open into uranium mines and tunnels that will lead, by short or long route, back to the center of Vault 88.

On July 26, 2016, the fifth addition to the game Fallout 4 was released on PC, Xbox One and PS4. It was called “Vault-Tec Workshop”, and is an opportunity to create a shelter for various experiments. One of these shelters was named "Vault 88".

"Vault 88" - a new addition to Fallout

One of your main goals in the Fallout 4 Vault 88 add-on is to rebuild an abandoned shelter. You will have to use many innovations, such as Workshop tools. You need to invite residents to the place you build. Pre-war furniture and beautiful decorative objects are also available, as well as new places, such as a hair salon and a surgical salon, which will provide new opportunities for changes in appearance. You will also be able to subject your shelter neighbors to experiments that are approved by the Workshop. There are a lot of new devices for this.

Fallout 4: where is Vault 88?

To find Vault 88, you need to find the Quincy Quarry. The place you need is underneath it. From the moment it is found, the card replaces the Quarry object with Vault 88.

Entrance to Vault 88

The place itself is a large area underground that moves north towards University Point. In order to rebuild it, you are provided with a huge amount of uranium and limestone, which you need to look for in the tunnels around the shelter area. The entire construction campaign is in your hands.

In Fallout 4, the question arises: how to build Vault 88? The entire territory will be gradually rebuilt by you and filled with residents during the completion of quests.

Fallout 4: Vault 88 quests

  • During the quests “Energy for People”, “Waterhole”, “Vision of the Future” you will be assigned tasks, to complete which you will need to carry out one of four experiments. We work everything out on Clem first.
  • After activating the board, the quest add-on “Exploring Vault 88” will open. In it, you must examine all sectors of Vault 88 for the presence of workshops in them. During the game you will find control boards - three in total.
  • In A Better Life Below, you have to find Anderson, who is a feral ghoul. You also need to fight other ghouls and get the Vault-Tec control board.
  • “Call of Vault-Tek” is the first quest of the add-on. His main goal is to visit Vault 88. To do this, you have to pick up Vault 88's frequency with a radio, find it near the Quincy Quarry, destroy the raiders who guard it, and go inside.
  • “Citizen Model” is the third quest, in which you will again have to fight ghouls, communicate with the surviving Overseer, and activate the payment that you obtained in previous battles. This will help attract new residents to the Vault.
  • After completing the objectives of the previous quest, “Citizen Model” will continue. To complete Vault 88 in Fallout 4, you need to talk to the residents to determine the best test subject. He will be a man named Clem - you will conduct all the experiments on him.
  • And the last quest is “Lady Luck”. It is short and useful. You have to make a slot machine that does not require any special equipment. As a result, upon completion of the construction of the machine, you will receive the “Legend of Vault 88” jumpsuit from Overseer Barstow. It will help you in the fight against ghouls, as it reduces damage from them by 15%.

Vault 88's experimentsFallout

Experimentation plays a very important role in supplementation. In total you can conduct 4 experiments:

  • To check the eyesight of residents you need to use a Phoropter.
  • An exercise bike on which you can get energy, with the help of it and a buffout you can increase your performance, simply spin the exercise bike, increasing your endurance.
  • The soda machine works by adding hallucinogens, antidepressants, or creating a mixture of Nuka Cola and caffeine. Increases energy production.
  • The slot machine increases the luck of the residents and gives them joy.

Enemies in Vault 88 dungeons

As you progress through the game, you will encounter many enemies:

  • Some places are guarded by a robot security guard.
  • Deathclaws, which are very formidable opponents in close combat.
  • Wild ghouls that hide in dungeons. They can often be confused with ordinary corpses or not visible in the dark.
  • Mole rats that can attack suddenly, digging a hole right in front of your feet.
  • You should also be wary of radscorpions, who also hide in the ground and can attack at any moment.
  • You can also meet Bolotnikov here.

Secrets of Vault 88 in Fallout 4:

  • Your level does not affect the level of your opponents.
  • In order for you to have 100 units of water, you need to find a pump in the caves of the location.
  • There are three entrances to Vault 88: the main entrance, through the University Point Pharmacy, and through Milton Hospital.

Shelters. Our house is underground. Radiation does not penetrate here and dangerous animals roaming the Wasteland cannot get through (well, for the most part they cannot... but more on that later). In Fallout 4, you start in Vault 111 and can visit several more vaults as the game progresses. But for the first time in the history of Fallout games, you have the opportunity to create a Vault - with the help of the next addition called Vault-Tec Workshop, which will be released on July 26 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. This is your chance to build your own Vault and equip it with many new items. In addition, you, as a real Overseer, will be able to conduct experiments on residents.

But it all starts with a call for help. And, in the Fallout tradition, you will decide what happens next.

Welcome to Vault 88

If your level is above 20, then you will receive an emergency message that there is an emergency in Vault 88.

This is where the main mission of the Vault-Tec Workshop begins. You interview new residents to find ideal test subjects for sinister experiments. Then you will have to conduct a series of experiments, and the result of each of them will depend on the decisions you make. Will you become a benevolent leader or a cruel tyrant? Or maybe neither one nor the other?

Your choice of experimental parameters determines what each experimental prototype will ultimately become, so think carefully about your decisions. In any case, at the end of the experiment, a new object will appear in your workshop, and you can build it at any moment.

“This is the first Workshop-type expansion to include quests,” says Kurt Kuhlmann, lead designer for Vault Tec Workshop. “Because it all happens in a specific place—we have an actual object and not just a collection of objects—we were able to do really meaningful jobs.”

But it is not at all necessary to complete the tasks. If you just like to work in the workshop, and you don’t need plot content, then you can simply kill or kick out the poor female Overseer. This will not prevent you from creating base versions of each experimental item.

If you're not level 20 yet, don't worry: this quest will still be available to you. But listen to what Kuhlmann says: “The reason we don't take you there until level 20 is because the very place where Vault 88 is located is intended for players at least level 35, and if you are less than level 20, then you will be very difficult. And a level 5 player will simply be killed there right away.”

Interior design

Once you gain access to this huge building, you'll need a ton of stuff to fill it up. It's good that Vault-Tec Corporation has a lot of blueprints for new items. “You can create all kinds of objects that are specifically designed for shelters,” says Vault-Tec Workshop lead artist Ryan Sears. “Corridors, covered courtyards, rooms, stairs, bridges, doors... all of these are similar to the objects you see when you walk around the Vault. All of these objects can be used to make the Vault the way you want it to be."

In addition to large building parts, you will also have clean furniture, new decorations for the Vault (including Vault Boy and Vault Girl statues), items you create through experiments, and chairs for the hairdresser and surgeon's office. Yes, exactly - now you don't have to limp around to Diamond City just to change your appearance. Now you can simply place one of the residents next to the chair, and he will give you a free haircut and plastic surgery at any time. (Note: This is only valid for your character. Computer characters prefer the faces they already have.)

If the thought of having to collect incredible amounts of steel to build a Vault scares you, don't worry. “There's a ton of resources in this expansion,” Kuhlmann assures us. “The fact is that before the bombing began, everything was already ready for construction to begin, so the materials will already be waiting for you. A significant part of the Vault can be created immediately, without even connecting it with other settlements. And if you break all the items already there, you will get even more resources.”

During construction, you are not limited to just a set of shelters. If you want, you can add barns, warehouses, huts, paintings of cats and everything else to the Vault.

After completing the tasks, you can move on to other settlements. Everything you create in Vault 88 can be done at any other point where it is possible to create something. You won't be able to dig, but you'll have the chance to build the heavenly Vault you've always dreamed of on Spectacle Island.

“With such a wealth of tools, you can build almost anything,” says Kuhlmann. “And it’s completely unnecessary to create all this underground.” We just want to see the cool things you build."

“We dream of seeing what shelters will become,” Sears adds. “We want to know what our fan community can do with the tools provided, and how users integrate them into existing objects. Even before the release of this update, we had already seen many amazing, completely unusual settlements. And for us developers, it’s really rewarding to see people using the tools given to them in unexpected ways.”

Vault 88 becomes the protagonist’s personal shelter; he can build it up at his own discretion, as well as conduct various experiments in it.

For convenience, use summary:

Description of Vault 88

Vault 88, added by the Vault-Tec Workshop add-on, according to the plot of the add-on, is an unfinished facility of the Vault-Tec company, the construction of which was interrupted by the war. Your task, as the new owner of the shelter, is to clear it of mutants, clear it of various rubbish and fill the huge rooms to your liking. You'll be able to build everything from hair salons and clinics to laboratories and pumping stations. The interior of the rooms can be filled with furniture; all the furniture is in the pre-war style.

Before the release of this add-on, many players were intrigued by the information that Vault 88, after construction is completed, it will be possible to conduct experiments on its settlers. Everyone rubbed their hands and ran through their heads what terrible, and maybe not terrible, experiments they would carry out. And then the addition became available and everyone rushed to Vault 88, to build, fill, do everything so that the opportunity to conduct experiments would become available.

To find Vault 88, you can use our interactive map, which shows all Fallout 4 objects.

What experiments are available in Vault 88?

Having gained access to the experiments, the players were mostly dissatisfied. There are several reasons for this, including the impossibility of conducting mass experiments and the lack of diversity in them.

As it turned out, only 1 resident is available for experiments, and there are only 4 experiments through which he can be driven, and in our opinion they are not very interesting, see for yourself:

  • Experiment “Exercise bike”- you take a regular exercise bike, which is connected to a dynamo, the test subject is placed behind this unit, and you decide in what mode to turn on the exercise bike. It has 3 of these modes, here is their description:
    1. Hard - the test subject pedals until he dies, a little cruel and a little interesting;
    2. Medium - when the test subject pedals, to increase his endurance, he is given a drug that makes him addicted;
    3. Soft - in this mode, the test subject works out on a simulator, accompanied by cheerful music and no one controls him.

  • Soda machine experiment- in this experiment, the test subject will drink soda from a machine, he will not even be aware of the experiment, and at this time various additives will be added to his drink:
    1. A drink with a hallucinogen - long-term use of such a drink will cause some kind of effect, and we will find out which one from this experiment;
    2. A drink with an antidepressant - the test subject becomes completely dependent on the machine and the drink;
    3. A drink made from coffee and Nuka-Cola - after such a drink it’s quite possible to “ see time".

  • Experiment "Vision Test"- the test subject is invited for a medical “vision test”; in fact, he is not seated in front of a medical device, but in front of a special laboratory one. With this device you can do the following:
    1. Viewing hypnotic images;
    2. Viewing thoughts through the eyes;
    3. Treating the test subject's vision;

  • Vegas Slot Machine Experiment- the essence of this experiment is that a slot machine is installed for people, but it is “twisted” in advance and produces a result that is beneficial to the leader of the experiment. Here are the modes in which this device operates:
    1. 100% loss - look at how losses affect residents;
    2. 50/50 - how many won and lost;
    3. Everyone always wins - let's look at how sudden wealth affects the settlers.
