This is where yesterday I was filled with pride for our achievements. This is not sarcasm. I think that Russia has something to be proud of. For example, the speed of access and the cost of access to the Internet. Thanks to technical backwardness, by the 90s we took up telecommunications and IT so quickly that we jumped through DSL and Dial-up much faster than other countries did. We didn't have anything that we could use when reconstructing and modernizing. In developed countries, the situation with this is sometimes much worse. There, providers still often do not provide access to 50-100 Mbit to individuals at all.

What am I talking about? They offered me to connect 100 Mbit Internet for 200 rubles. The provider manager asked about the speed of my current connection and then I got thoughtful. I forgot. We talked for a couple more minutes, agreed to call sometime later, and only then, after the conversation, I thought about what speed would be optimal for me - 10.50, 100 Mbit?

In fact, everything is not quite like that, and sometimes it’s not like that at all. The fact is that the maximum data transfer speed is limited by the minimum speed in any of the sections. The speed will not be higher than the lowest speed of any section of information transmission.

In practice, this depends on the speed and number of distributors on torrent trackers, on the speed of requests, on the connection speed “at the other end” and much more. In general terms, the calculation that I use in the calculator will be very close to reality under normal conditions.

Personally, I have enough speed of 15 Mbit in most cases (now 30, but the difference from 15 is not very noticeable for me). On the road you have to use much lower speeds. Rather, the fact of uninterrupted access is important, but here I am saved by 2 SIM cards from cellular operators, wi-fi from a neighboring cafe and wi-fi from a neighbor (another provider). What about speed? 5 Mbit was clearly not enough, and after 15 I stopped counting.
