Comparison of Samsung 7 and iPhone 6s.

Two great companies. Two avid competitors. Lawsuits, accusing each other of plagiarism. Holy wars for fans. Samsung and Apple have a rich history. However, for those who have chosen their side in this “war”, nothing can be changed. Apple fans will praise the iPhone, even if it suddenly falls behind Samsung's flagship by a mile and vice versa.

However, if you are reading this article, you must be one of the rational people who choose with their minds and not with their hearts and you are interested in the real state of affairs and an honest comparison of parameters. Well, for you, our battle between the current flagships of the two giants is Galaxy S7 versus iPhone 7.

We will also talk a little about two more confrontations: iPhone 7 Plus vs Galaxy Edge 7 vs Galaxy Note 7.

Comparing the appearance of gadgets is, in fact, always a very thankless task, because as you know, “There are no comrades according to taste,” however, it would be unfair not to talk about the design of the heroes of this review, and the point is not even that Apple and Samsung are investing a huge amount of money went into its development, it’s just that both sevens really stood out in terms of appearance.

The seventh Galaxy came out a little earlier than the iPhone 7 and many exclaimed “Ah!” in admiration, because the South Korean giant, which had been rushing about the design of the flagship for a very long time, seems to have finally settled on the right direction. Galaxy S7 has become the ideal version of the sixth “galaxy”.

But then the seventh iPhone comes out and the second “Ah!” is heard. After two, probably, the most unsuccessful models in terms of design - the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S, Apple released an amazingly beautiful seven.

And who is cooler here - Apple or Samsung? Who is the winner in the battle of designs - Galaxy S7 vs iPhone 7? Yes, to be honest, I don’t even want to make a subjective conclusion, because both companies frankly tried their best and both devices are very good. But, however, we don’t forbid you to choose - admire it and cast your vote.

Performance

Well, here it’s easier to compare iPhone 7 Apple vs Samsung Galaxy S7, although there will be subtleties.

The South Korean giant's smartphone is available in two variations - one with an 8-core Exynos "heart" - a processor developed by Samsung, and the other with a 4-core SnapDragon from Qualcomm. The first version is addressed to the whole world, the second - to the USA and China.

iPhone 7 runs on its own A9 processor - 4-core. However, most of those reading this review probably understand that happiness is not in the number of cores, and, more precisely, not only in them. However, in order not to go into complex technical explanations of the operating mechanisms of all three processors, we will simply say that in the benchmark tests of a single core, the A9 is the leader, but in the overall tests it is beaten by both SnapDragon and Exynos.

In addition, the RAM capacity of the Samsung Galaxy S7 is 4 GB, and the iPhone 7 is half as much - 2 GB. Well, then, let's wrap it up, shall we? The South Korean giant's phone is obviously more powerful, so why compare further? Not so simple.

S7 is not more powerful, but POTENTIALLY more powerful. What do we mean? And the fact that (here is the cornerstone of the holivars of Apple fans and Koreans) smartphones run on different operating systems - Apple iOS and Google Android, and the latter is known for its gluttony. In addition, since the development of Android is not carried out by the South Korean giant itself, but by a third-party company, the optimization possibilities here are not as wide as those of Apple and iOS. So it turns out that the iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S7, with different hardware, are equal in performance. That is, if you let the user use one and another gadget in turn, he will not notice the difference.

ROM

As you know, the iPhone never supported working with external memory; at some point, Samsung also abandoned this option for flagships, allegedly due to the lack of fast enough ROM on the component market.

However, the argument is not nonsense, because who would the user curse if the flagship began to slow down when accessing external memory? Of course, the company whose brand is depicted on the smartphone’s body, and not a third-party memory manufacturer.

However, in the seventh “galaxy” it was decided to return to working with microSD, so there is only one model in the flagship lineup - with 32 GB of ROM, which can be expanded with external memory up to 256 GB.

But Apple has no changes in this area. No external cards, choose from models - 32, 128 and 256 GB (however, the more memory, the more expensive the device will be, and the differences in price will be considerable).

Cameras

Perhaps the most interesting section of the battle between the iPhone 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S 7 is a comparison of their cameras, because for the first time the main cameras of the flagships have the same “megapixel” - 12 megapixels for each “brother”. And this despite the fact that some time ago there was a two-fold gap between the devices.

Apple did not change the 8 megapixel sensor for a very long time, proving that “not just megapixels” (a 12 megapixel sensor appeared in the predecessor of the seven - iPhone 6S), and the Galaxy flagships already started working with 16 megapixels and suddenly returned to 12 megapixels. Why? Because in the Galaxy S7 camera it was decided to increase the pixel size - the larger the pixel, the more light falls on it, and therefore the possibilities for night photography become better. This technology is called Dual Pixel Camera. And, by the way, it also had a positive effect on the focus and clarity of the pictures.

If we talk about major changes in the main iPhone camera, then it is worth noting an expanded color range and a new lens with a higher aperture. And also, finally, the appearance of an optical stabilization system - this change was highly anticipated in the iPhone 6S, and, in general, it was expected, but only in the advanced version - iPhone 6S Plus.

There are still a lot of small changes in the cameras of the flagships of Apple and Samsung, but there is no point in describing them, it’s better to just study the image tests.

What do the tests show? Two excellent cameras that produce very cool shots both day and night. But still, most independent experts agree that in low light conditions the “Korean” is in the lead. And in the comparison of iPhone 7 vs Galaxy S7 cameras, the latter wins in terms of manual adjustment capabilities.

But as for the front cameras of the iPhone and Galaxy, it is perhaps impossible to single out a leader, although the Apple front camera is equipped with a 7 megapixel sensor, and the Samsung flagship has a 5 megapixel sensor.

Autonomy

What about the round - iPhone 7 autonomy vs Samsung Galaxy S7 autonomy? This is the situation here. The battery capacity of the seventh iPhone is 1960 mAh, Galaxy S7 is 3000 mAh. Again the obvious leader in our review - which is better? Not really. We will have to remember again about the gluttonous Android and the much more modest appetites of iOS. And although in standby mode there is a difference of 60 hours between the S7 and iPhone 7 - the i-gadget will last 240 hours, the Korean - 300, in active use mode it is not known who will “die” first. But, most likely, the flagships will show the result that is typical today for any powerful smartphone - a day without recharging. However, it is important to note that the Galaxy S 7 supports fast charging technology, while the Apple flagship does not.

Display

Galaxy S7 is equipped with a 5.1-inch diagonal, a resolution of 2560x1334 pixels, which corresponds to a pixel density of 576 ppi, AMOLED technology. iPhone 7 has a diagonal of 4.7 inches, a resolution of 1334x750 pixels, density - 326, IPS technology.

In terms of numbers, the flagship from Samsung is again in the lead here, but the clarity of both displays (determined by pixel density) is high and the human eye will not be able to understand which of them is more generously equipped with pixels. Well, if there is no difference, as they say, why pay more?

You may have noticed that device displays are made using different technologies. We won’t go into lengthy explanations, let’s just say that AMOLED displays are often accused of being incredibly saturated. True, here Samsung meets users halfway and makes it possible, thanks to simple settings, to make the shades more natural.

Waterproof

Comparing the Samsung Galaxy S7 and iPhone 7 in terms of water resistance is again not beneficial for the Apple device. The case of the South Korean flagship is protected according to the IP68 standard - this means that the device is not afraid of moisture and dust, and can also be submerged to a depth of 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes.

The advanced “Apple” is protected according to the IP67 standard - the iPhone 7, like its main competitor, is not afraid of moisture and dust, but it will only withstand immersion for a meter, and in addition, over time, its waterproof properties will deteriorate. And, by the way, in the official video, Apple only demonstrates that the seven doesn’t care about rain and splashes, but nothing is said about immersion in water, and this forces one to draw quite understandable conclusions.

Related Models

The iPhone 7, like the iPhone 6S, was also presented in the Plus version, and the Galaxy S7 was accompanied by the S7 Edge smartphone. The main difference between the South Korean devices is the design; the Edge has a larger diagonal and a screen that curves slightly onto the side edges. And if we compare the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, then, it must be said that the latter not only grew in height, but also received a cooler dual camera - it has two 12-megapixel modules, and this makes it possible to get not only more high-quality footage in low light conditions, but also play with cool effects.

So if we compare the camera capabilities of the iPhone 7 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone, the Apple gadget will win, because the S7 Edge version has the same module as the S7.

On the other hand, many believe that if you compare the design of S7 Edge vs iPhone 7, then the first one will be cooler. Yes, we said that design is a subjective thing, but the screen curved on the sides looks so cool and original that it would be reasonable to call it the winner in this fight. As strange as it may be to admit, Edge is so “tasty” that even the iPhone 7 looks modest compared to it.

Another companion model to the Galaxy S7 can be called the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. And therefore, a mini-battle of iPhone 7 Plus vs Galaxy Note 7 also needs to be held. And, I must say, here the South Korean model has something to brag about, with the same powerful hardware as the S7 (in some places the Note is even cooler - a larger diagonal and 64 GB ROM), it also has such cool features as a retinal scanner and S-Pen stylus. Of course, the iris scanning technology still needs to be tested, but we must admit that in the Innovation round between Samsung Galaxy Note 7 vs iPhone 7 Plus, the South Korean gadget is in the lead.

But in the round of explosiveness - Galaxy Note 7 vs iPhone 7 Plus, “Apple” wins. Even those who are far from the world of gadgets have heard about exploding Notes - the “tragedy” turned out to be very large-scale. And although Samsung representatives assured that this was a problem only with the first batch and recalled the defective smartphones, it would be wrong to keep silent about this, because if such an “incident” happened to Apple, they would never forget it.

Bottom line - so who is better - iPhone 7 or Galaxy S7?

Before we sum it up and choose the winner, we must say that whether it turns out to be the Galaxy S 7 or the iPhone 7, you must understand that these two smartphones and their accompanying models are the iPhone 7 Plus, Edge 7, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 - the most powerful gadgets on the modern mobile market. But still, who is cooler?

“Dry” numbers will not let you lie - the winner in this difficult battle is the South Korean flagship. Well, okay, a processor that loses in the benchmark and Apple’s 2 GB RAM can easily be forgiven - well, why waste extra resources if iOS has very modest appetites compared to Android. In addition, you can forgive a camera that produces slightly worse pictures in low visibility conditions and a display whose pixel density is lower than that of the Galaxy S7 - again, why bother where the human eye won’t notice it anyway.

But! Why doesn't Apple make a battery at least equal in capacity to the Galaxy S7 and then the already power-hungry iOS will be able to work almost twice as long. Plus, the “apple” lags behind in terms of moisture resistance. So, where is the long-awaited fast charging technology? It’s hard for the company to find excuses here. And if you remember that in the iPhone 7, supposedly for beauty, Apple decided to leave only one Lighting connector, getting rid of the standard audio connector (now Apple users can listen to music either with the original headset, or through an adapter), it becomes completely sad.

And finally, the price. The average cost of the flagship of the South Korean giant is 45,000 rubles, the iPhone 7 is 55,000 rubles (for the version with 32 GB of ROM).

However, if you are an “Apple” person, there is nothing you can do about it, you will have to save up and put up with the shortcomings, because 99% of those who have used iOS at least once no longer want to return to Android. And, of course, it’s nice to feel like a “member of the Apple club”, after all, who knows what kind of Samsung you have in your hands, but the “apple” on the back panel immediately explains that this is a flagship, after all, it’s not just Apple flagships doesn't.

In the very near future, Apple will present a new generation of the iPhone 7 smartphone, but for now the role of the flagship is played by the 6s model. Samsung recently revealed its new flagship Samsung Galaxy S7. These models are direct competitors, and therefore users often ask what to choose. We will talk about how the flagships differ and how they are similar.

Design and dimensions

The design of smartphones is completely different. If Samsung uses metal and glass, then the iPhone uses only metal. Although the use of glass cannot be called an ideal option, since fingerprints remain on it. But the Galaxy S7 is very beautiful and stylish. Can this be said about the 6S? The impression is spoiled by the strange protruding camera bezel and those stripes on the back. However, in iPhone 7 these unusual design elements will be changed. The rest is parity. As they say, it depends on the taste and color...

On the front, the models, although not very similar, are made in the same style - glass with a Home button. If the iPhone has a round one, then the Galaxy has a rectangular one. Interestingly, Samsung has an inscription of the same name under the speaker at the top of the case; the iPhone has nothing like that. Case colors are different.

Of course, the Galaxy S7 is larger, as it uses a 5.1-inch screen versus the iPhone's 4.7-inch. The difference is small - 2 mm in width and 4 mm in height. At the same time, the iPhone is slightly thinner - 7.1 mm versus 7.9 mm.

Display

The displays are excellent on both devices, despite the fact that the iPhone has a pixel density of only 326 ppi, while the Samsung has 576 ppi. Does this mean the pixels will be visible on the 6S? Well, if you just look carefully, then you can see something... In real life, you won’t see any pixels.

Samsung uses a SuperAMOLED screen, its colors are brighter; on the iPhone they are not so bright, but, let’s say, closer to “living” shades.

iPhone has 3D Touch technology. This is a technology that allows you to recognize the force of pressing the screen and thanks to this, opens up various settings for the user for a particular application. It seems that the technology was supposed to cause a sensation, but in reality there were no mass praise reviews. Just a new feature from Apple that almost no one has yet.

And of course, screen diagonal. We wrote above that for Samsung it is 5.1 inches, for iPhone it is 4.7 inches. What's better? It's up to you to decide: some people like a smaller screen, others a larger one.

Software

Samsung uses Android 6.0 with its own TouchWiz interface. Apple - iOS 9. Which of these firmware is better can be argued endlessly, and we won’t do that. Each of these firmwares has its fans, so there is no point in arguing. Let's just say that both firmware are good in their own way and work very quickly.

Hardware and performance

Galaxy S7 is more powerful. It uses 4GB of RAM and a Samsung Exynos 8890 processor, while the iPhone 6S has 2GB of RAM and an Apple A9 processor. But there is no point in looking at dry numbers, because in terms of operating speed, according to various tests, the iPhone is a little faster. This became possible thanks to the optimization carried out by Apple specialists. But the difference is small, that is, the Galaxy S7 also works very quickly, its system will not cause you any complaints.

It is also worth noting that both devices will have no problems launching applications; they should all work with maximum settings.

Camera

Numerous tests and reviews on the Internet prove that Samsung’s camera is definitely better, and many even call it the best on the smartphone market. The Sony IMX260 sensor is installed here, the resolution is 12 MP, the pixel size is 1.4 microns, and the lens aperture has increased to f/1.7. And with Samsung, the camera protrudes from the body by only 0.46 mm - a very good result.

Of course, the iPhone also has a very good camera, you can’t argue with that, but the Galaxy S7 is still better.

Battery

Samsung has a battery capacity of 3000 mAh, iPhone has 1715 mAh. Is the difference obvious? If you believe the reviews of various users, then the iPhone actually “lives” less in similar scenarios, but not by much. This may be due, among other things, to the fact that Samsung uses a screen with QHD resolution. However, both devices should be more than enough for daylight hours.

Price

The cost of an iPhone 6S 16Gb at the time of writing is about 41 thousand rubles. Samsung Galaxy S7 32Gb costs about 37 thousand rubles. The difference is small, but do not forget that Samsung is more modern and in many ways better, and even cheaper. But this is just our opinion. What to choose is up to you.

Of all the latest devices released by the South Korean manufacturer, the update to the Galaxy line is the closest in its characteristics to the current models of Apple communicators. However, the new products have many features that Apple smartphones cannot yet boast of. Let's look at the most important of them.

In contact with

AMOLED displays

Apple has equipped its iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus communicators with LCD displays with a resolution of 1334 × 750 and 1920 x 1080 pixels, respectively. In turn, Samsung decided to equip its new products with superAMOLED displays, the characteristics of which exceed those of Apple smartphones. In particular, the manufacturer declared a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels for the Galaxy S7, and 2560 x 1440 pixels for the Galaxy S7 edge.

MicroSD memory card support

The new items will be sold in two versions – with storage capacity of 32 and 64 GB. However, it will be possible to expand the built-in memory through the use of MicroSD memory cards. The manufacturer claims support for cards up to 200 GB.

RAM

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge were equipped with a 4 GB RAM module, while their closest “competitors” iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have half the RAM. However, reviewers urge not to rush to conclusions - in performance tests, the 5.5-inch Apple tablet easily shows better results than the Galaxy Note 5 equipped with the same 4 GB of RAM.

Camera Aperture Settings

Despite the fact that the resolution of the main cameras of the new products is 12 megapixels, like the current version of the iPhone, unlike the latter, Galaxy smartphones received an improved aperture - ƒ/1.7. This feature plays a role in regulating the lens aperture. Samsung Galaxy s7 allows you to take very high-quality pictures in low light conditions.

For the first time, Samsung equipped the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge smartphones with a photomodule of its own production - BRITECELL. Its resolution is 24 megapixels, but the final image is twice as small due to the combination of neighboring points to sharpen the image during shooting.

Dual Pixel

Dual Pixel is an autofocus technology often used in DSLRs. This is what they decided to equip the cameras with in the new flagship Samsung smartphones. Thanks to the innovation, the speed and accuracy of autofocus will increase.

CPU cooling

Since Samsung increased the performance of the central and graphics processors in its new products, this required the implementation of a new chip cooling technology. In updating the Galaxy line, it was decided to use liquid cooling, which should protect gadgets from overheating.

Battery capacity

Apple developers equipped the iPhone 6s with a battery with a capacity of 1715 mAh, and the iPhone 6s Plus with a capacity of 2750 mAh. In these parameters, Samsung is also ahead of its main competitor - the Galaxy S7 has a 3000 mAh battery, and the Galaxy S7 edge has a 3600 mAh battery. However, it should be remembered that the battery life of devices depends not only on battery performance, but also on software optimization, display power consumption, etc.

The release schedules for the Galaxy S and iPhone are strictly regulated at the highest level. If only because these are the two main competitors on the market. New this season Samsung Galaxy S7 is tearing up the market like it did in the fall iPhone 6s. The most popular flagships are literally asking to be compared.

The flagship from Samsung turned out to be interesting. The company has finally managed to reconcile the wealth of opportunities for its loyal fans with a redesign of the property. Everyone was a winner.

The iPhone 6S, like several of its predecessors, has changed little. But the new 3D Touch capabilities, 4K video-capable camera, and new chipset (finally 2GB of RAM) look good.

Obvious advantages of the Samsung Galaxy S7:

– IP68 certification allows submersion in water and protects against dust;

– large, always-on display (Always On function);

– automatic camera stabilization with the ability to shoot in low light conditions and autofocus;

– larger battery with fast and wireless charging;

– more initial internal memory plus MicroSD slot;

– heart rate sensor with SpO2; NFC and magnetic card emulation;

– there is an option for two SIM cards.

Advantages of Apple IPhone 6s:

– all-metal body;

– reversible USB connector (Lightning);

– more compact;

– faster fingerprint reader.

Apple's conservative approach to adding new features leaves its flagship always somewhat behind the cutting-edge technologies. At the same time, the Galaxy line and its latest representative, the S7, take everything that's technologically interesting and keep up with the times. Is this enough to make it the most popular 5-inch smartphone?

The Galaxy S6 was a bold move from Samsung. Getting rid of the MicroSD slot, no waterproofing, a protruding camera, a sealed battery... The company has abandoned all this again, and although the Galaxy S7 still has non-removable batteries, Samsung has turned everything else upside down.

Apple works differently. In relations between producers and consumers, this is a company that sets its own rules and does not follow the wishes of customers. Here's to deep 3D Touch capabilities, 4K video and live photos along with 2GB of RAM. Let's leave the rest as is. But who's to say that the phone hasn't become more advanced? Of course, it looks better than its predecessor. But only because he was also quite weak technically.

As for materials, the South Korean manufacturer used metal and glass, only in different proportions. Samsung chose a glossy finish. Its flagship sparkles, flaunts, declares itself. The American flagship looks like a poorly polished piece of metal. But only. However, it’s difficult to find fault with the design, because all its predecessors looked exactly the same.

Apple is not going to give its gadgets wireless or even fast charging. You will have to increase the load on the processor, change the battery, update the gadget, which is already selling well. Why complicate things?

Qualcomm I did everything possible to ensure that the Samsung flagship received fast wireless charging and just fast charging from a standard 5 V / 2 A adapter. That is, even wireless charging is fast.

At the same time, an anodized aluminum body turns out to be stronger in everyday use than glass, which over time collects scratches, dents, chips, and then cracks. Gorilla Glass 4 is not omnipotent.

Take S7 and put it in a glass of water. He continues to work calmly. IP68 certification allows it to survive in up to 1.5m of water for half an hour. Unlike the S5 predecessor, which also promised waterproofing, the new model doesn't require any unsightly flaps on any of its ports. It is isolated from the inside.

Another major advantage over the iPhone is larger storage space - the Galaxy S7 starts at 32GB versus 16GB. And you can use MicroSD to add up to 200GB more. While the most expensive iPhone 6s will offer a maximum of 128 GB of memory.

The camera on the S6 protruded significantly. It doesn't stick out on the Galaxy S7. On iPhone 6s it performs. The winner in design is the Samsung Galaxy S7. The competitor's aluminum body is, of course, more practical, but does not contain protection against accidental water damage. This alone is enough to ensure victory for Samsung's flagship.

The display is also better on Samsung.

The company successfully uses AMOLED screens. Bright, beautiful, with stunning color reproduction and a resolution of 1440 by 2560 pixels, they look much more beautiful than their competitor with its IPS screen with a resolution that no other flagship of its competitors can afford - 750 by 1334 pixels.

Let's add here that Super AMOLED on the Galaxy S7 has an Always On function. Part of the screen is always on, highlighting the date, time and messages without wasting much battery power. The smartphone uses 1% of the battery per hour, but you see missed calls and messages. Unfortunately, no other notifications are displayed. For example, WhatsApp, Facebook or others.

With 540 nits of brightness, 1500:1 contrast ratio, and 577 pixel density per inch, Samsung is clearly in the lead. Also, the user is more interested in a larger 5.1-inch screen.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 also wins in terms of battery life. The flagship has a huge advantage in battery capacity - 3000 mAh, which has 75% more milliamps in the tank than the iPhone 6c's 1715 mAh battery.

The Endurance rating, however, is not as different as the battery capacity suggests. Galaxy S7 shows 80 hours in the program without recharging - work for three days. And Apple's flagship will last up to 62 hours. But if you plan to use the S7's Always On feature, you should be prepared to charge it more often—the Endurance rating drops to 49 hours. But since the Galaxy S7 is packed with Quick Charge 3.0, it can fully charge from 0 to 100 percent in 90 minutes. The competitor will require much more time.

Apple and Samsung users view the world differently. The typical Galaxy S buyer looks at the smartphone's specs page. And Apple iPhone 6s buyers trust the device by inertia, as a brand that has been on the market for a long time. At equal prices, this trend is unlikely to change.

Today we’ll try to compare two very interesting smartphones. Of course, these will be representatives of the two most important competitors on the market: iPhone 7/7 PLUS and Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge.

You can, of course, say that there are two smartphones on each side, but their characteristics are very similar and therefore, we will simply compare in general, but I will take into account all the points.

I know that the article is being published much later than it should have been. But considering that quite a lot of time has passed and all the devices are still relevant, then why not.

What is the difference between iPhone 7/7 PLUS and Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge?

As you can imagine, comparisons are usually not very equal, because companies release devices at completely different times of the year. In any case, someone is one step ahead.

Therefore, let's first compare all the characteristics in the table. Thus, you can understand the most important differences between these gadgets.

Approximately such differences can be observed in the general picture in the table. But we understand that each point must be considered separately.

Lately, the numbers don't always tell the truth. You need to experience everything live and understand the difference. What are we going to do now?

The difference between iPhone 7/7 PLUS and Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge

Let's start with the most interesting part. I won't go into great detail. But after reading the article, you will understand the main difference.

Design

Although the iPhone 7 did not receive anything radically new in its design, Apple managed to make a new device out of the old 6S thanks to bug fixes.

Now the antennas neatly follow the contour of the body, the camera has become much more pleasant to look at thanks to the one-piece body. And this is perhaps all the main differences from the previous model in appearance.

Three new color options have appeared and now you can also buy Red, Black (Matte) and Jet Black. Well, in the old fashioned way you can find Gold, Rose Gold and Silver.

Samsung managed to do something new and fascinating. If the regular Galaxy S7 is very similar to its predecessor, then the Edge was able to distinguish itself very much thanks to its screen.

On the sides, the device has a rounded screen. I have no doubt, it all looks very cool. But as practice shows, using the device is not as convenient as expected.

Very often, it is these side parts that react to accidental pressing and, of course, when playing games and watching videos, holding the device is extremely uncomfortable.

The colors are completely different and we have “black diamond”, “white pearl”, “silver titanium” and “dazzling platinum”.

It is quite difficult to say which design is better, because each user has his own ideals and point of view. Both are good in their own way and it’s up to you to decide which one is more beautiful.

Here I can add at the end that the iPhone has an aluminum body and after a couple of years it looks much nicer than the Galaxy S7.

The reason was the plastic speaker and Menu button, which simply wear off after a while. However, the glass body is very good.

Screens

As you already know: the iPhone has 4.7 and 5.5 inches, and the Samsung has 5.1 and 5.5 inches. If the younger models are approximately the same, then regarding the larger options we can say that Samsung 5.5 is more accurate.

Apple usually doesn't chase resolutions, because they want to perfectly optimize everything and extend battery life. 1334x750 and 1920x1080 - although not enough, users are not complaining so far.

It can also be noted that they have the best IPS matrix on the market, which has improved slightly compared to the 6S.

For Samsung, everything is a little different and they have long felt confident in this regard. Super AMOLED has incredible color reproduction.

2560x1440 is quite good for such dimensions and in this regard you will feel very comfortable. The black color is really black, unlike IPS.

But to be honest, both screens are of very high quality and have everything you need for top-end devices. Again, color rendering is a matter of taste.

Batteries

And here comes the first point, which Apple has not been able to catch up with for quite a long period of time. Of course, these are batteries and everything connected with them.

Almost all devices show good performance in terms of operating time, except for the iPhone 7. Thanks to the thin body, it was possible to accommodate only 1960 mAh.

But this is not the most important thing. It will take you a full 2 hours and 10 minutes to fully charge your iPhone 7. While for Samsung S7 it will take only 1 hour and 25 minutes.

All thanks to Quick Charge 2.0 technology, which they have been using for quite some time. Also, just think for a second that 50 percent can be achieved in just half an hour.

I think it’s clear here who has the advantage. If Apple doesn't do anything in the next generations, then I think we can see big changes.

Samsung's wireless charging has long been a source of slight envy. I'm so tired of constantly using wires.

Performance

As you understand, both devices are flagships and no matter what game or program you launch, it will run without problems.

All thanks to the quad-core Apple A10 Fusion 4 processor in the iPhone and the Exynos 8890 or Snapdragon 820 in the Galaxy. Samsung supplies different processors for different markets, but there is not much difference in power.

RAM iPhone 7/7 PLUS - 2 and 3 GB, Samsung Galaxy S7 - 4 GB. The numbers of all this are impressive and for some people on their computers it’s not all fun.

Also, as practice shows, the operating system plays a very important role. iOS always uses resources more efficiently and thanks to this, you can observe stable operation.

Android has made a big leap lately and is getting closer to optimization every day. iOS is still better, but I think in a year or two it won't be as noticeable.

Audio

I also decided to talk separately about music, because Apple has always been in first place. But if we compare the difference between before and now, the iPhone has long ceased to be top-end in this direction.

However, judging by the devices, there are quite a lot of differences. And for example, both iPhones have stereo speakers and lack a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Samsung still has a jack and there is only one speaker, which also sounds quite good.

As for me, here I would give preference to the iPhone. After all, stereo speakers are much more expensive than jack speakers and you want to watch videos and play games at the highest level.

Moreover, Bluetooth headphones are becoming cheaper and in a couple of years, perhaps we will remember the 3.5 connector as CDs.

Camera

Now we have reached the most interesting point, which is usually the most interesting thing when buying a new smartphone. After all, photographs have become a part of our lives for about 2 or 3 years now.

Main camera. Let's take the iPhone plus model as an example, because it has a dual 12 MP camera. The second is used for portrait mode and 2x optical zoom.

Samsung also has 12 megapixels. They reduced the number of pixels to increase the pixel size, which now combines two LEDs instead of the usual one.

If anyone understands, Samsung has an aperture of f/1.7, and Apple has an aperture of f/1.8. Which is very, very good for mobile phones.

Speaking about night photography and in low light conditions, the winner can be safely called Samsung, which has a much clearer picture.

During the day, both devices cope quite well and the difference here is really not very big. Samsung wins a little, but not critically.

Reminds me of a time when Apple was the best in mobile photography. The days when they occupied top positions are long gone. Everything is about equal now.

If we briefly mention video, Apple does a little better here and has optical image stabilization, 4K recording (30 fps) and an A10 Fusion coprocessor - available in both the 7 and Plus versions.

Samsung also has optical stabilization and the ability to shoot in 4K. I think it's the lenses that make the difference.

Front-camera. Now let’s touch on a topic that has been haunting us for many years, and this is, of course, selfies, which many take several times a day.

iPhone 7 has 7 MP, which takes very accurate photos and you can see all the smallest details of your face.

The Samsung S7 is only equipped with 5 MP, but it is wide-angle and you can capture much more detail in the photo.

Here you can choose for yourself, picture clarity or wide angle. In reality, each option is for different occasions and for example, if you take pictures with several people, then Samsung will probably do a better job.

Chips

If previously Apple dictated the rules of technology in the market entirely, now this happens only partially.

Let's quickly go over the main differences that I was able to notice:

  • Taptic Engine and 3D Touch (iPhone). You feel very pleasant responses from the smartphone, which no other smartphone has yet. Just hold down on the icon and an additional menu appears.
  • Menu button. The iPhone is equipped this time with a touch-sensitive Home button, which gives the illusion of pressing thanks to Taptic Engine technology.
  • Heart rate sensor and Qi wireless charging. You won't find all this on the iPhone. Galaxy is making great progress in this direction.
  • Flexible camera settings. The principle of the iPhone camera is quite simple - point and take a photo. In Samsung, you can delve into the settings and do something pretty cool.
  • Moisture protection. Available in both devices and Samsung has IP68 (can be located up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5 m).

Apple is a little worse in this regard and has an IP67 standard. 30 minutes at a depth of water up to 1 meter.

It turned out to be a bit of a vinaigrette, but I think I conveyed the essence of the rest of the chips and that’s the main thing. As you can see, they are completely two different devices.

Which is better than iPhone 7/7 PLUS and Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge?

So, many people probably came to read the material so that they could understand what kind of smartphone is better and which one to buy for themselves.

I have a question for your answer, so no need to worry. In fact, the answer is very simple and you can decide right away.

You should check yourself using approximately these criteria and then you will be able to understand everything:

  • Operating system. No matter what anyone says about an easy transition from Android to iOS and vice versa, this is a very difficult matter. Not in the sense that it is impossible to do.

The operating logic of each OS is completely different, and for example, if you like more freedom of action, then it will probably be Android. iOS is simple: turn it on, install it, use it.

So if you have a big dilemma, then just ask yourself what is more convenient and familiar to you. Why torture yourself with something new, just for the sake of the changed appearance of the device.

  • Price. It’s 2017 and as you understand, the prices of both devices are far from equal. You can already find an S7 at a price two times cheaper than at the start of sales.

This has not yet happened with the iPhone, and even older models cost quite a lot of money. And this applies to both used and new ones.

So if you have enough money for a Galaxy S7, you can get it at a great price and use it for the next two years. The design and functions will be relevant for another two years for sure.

  • Camera. Considering that mobile photography is developing at a crazy speed, I can safely say that this criterion is simply incredibly important when choosing.

When compared in general, the cameras do not have too much of a difference in quality. It really all depends on what exactly you would like.

For example, in Samsung we get better quality pictures thanks to the possibility of flexible settings. The device also copes well in automatic mode.

Apple has a second camera and it could be the key. A cool portrait mode that can blur the background is getting better every day.

Also, the 2x optical zoom without loss of quality is also very impressive. If these two points are important to you, then you know what is better to buy.

I understand that there is no clear answer about the best device. After all, Samsung has been pushing hard with its technology and screen for a long time.

Just read the points and choose which category you belong to. If the choice is Samsung, then we take it without hesitation.

If it's Apple, then welcome to a new world where you don't have to worry too much about the choice and your next smartphone will be very obvious.

My point is that it is much more difficult for Android users to choose a device, because there are too many brands that constantly release completely different devices.

Apple makes it simple. You buy a model that you have enough money for and you already roughly understand that in the future the choice will be between two models at most: the top-end and last year’s flagship.

Results

To be honest, choosing between such devices is always difficult. I hope my comparison of iPhone 7/7 PLUS and Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge devices could make the overall picture at least a little clearer.

It is very difficult to put all thoughts in one article and therefore, we get this result.

To be honest, I can finally say the principle that I would follow: we take the device that we like externally and it will not lag for the next 2-3 years.

At the moment, we spend a crazy amount of hours just sitting in front of our smartphones. We buy something that will delight you with all its functions.
