Vernee Thor Plus - Specifications. Review of the day: Vernee Thor Plus

The young Chinese brand represented by Vernee Thor Plus once again delights the public with a unique new product. Try to find another equally thin smartphone on the market with a 6200 mAh battery and 4G support. And yes, it should cost no more than $129.9 dollars.

Even if you try, at the moment you will not be able to find an alternative to the new Thor Plus. In our opinion, Vernee's management has once again hit the bull's eye. Many people would like to have a long-lasting and fairly powerful phone that does not look like a heavy “brick”.

Overall, Vernee Thor Plus is a very well redesigned . The manufacturer has done serious work on bugs, significantly increased autonomy and added a number of new “goodies”. But the most important thing is that the cost of the device has not changed much.

Price issue

Hurry up to buy it at the best price

The presentation of the new Vernee Thor Plus took place on August 13 at a stated cost of 169.99 units of US currency, but already on the 14th a promotion was launched, within which until August 27 the smartphone can be purchased for only 149.99 $129.99*.

  • Of course, the battery has a very impressive capacity - as much as 6200 mAh. If you need a smartphone that can last 3-4 days on a single charge, then the new Thor Plus from Vernee is definitely your choice.
  • Fast charging with MediaTek Pump Express 2.0 technology so you don't have to wait long at a power outlet.
  • Unrealistically compact dimensions for a device with such a battery. The thickness of the metal case of the “Torus Plus” is only 7.9 mm and weighs 188 g. Competitors’ products with worse autonomy indicators are often much more massive.
  • Bright display with Super AMOLED matrix, 5.5 inches diagonal and HD Ready resolution. This means not only richer colors, but also lower energy consumption.
  • Proprietary mode of increased autonomy Endurance Mode, for which a special button is provided. When activated, the image on the screen turns black and white, thus reducing the load on the battery.
  • The electronics are not the worst for an almost budget smartphone, including an eight-core mobile processor, 3 GB of RAM and a modem with support for 4G LTE networks.
  • Main camera with an “honest” resolution of 13 MP and f/2.0 aperture. And also an 8-megapixel front camera.
  • Support for installing two SIM cards, a fingerprint scanner and other “gentlemanly” features of a modern Chinese smartphone.
  • Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with a lightweight proprietary Vernee VOS shell. The latter contains a number of useful tweaks to save battery power.
  • The launch price is uniquely low for such a cool smartphone - only $129.99.
  • In USB On-To-Go mode, Vernee Thor Plus can work as a Power Bank, that is, it can charge external devices.

Autonomy Vernee Thor Plus

The most important feature of the new product, for the sake of which everything, in fact, was started. The manufacturer guarantees that one full charge of the 6200 mAh battery is enough for:

  • 20 hours of video viewing
  • 750 hours standby time

Information about operating time in other modes (talking, Internet surfing, launching games, listening to music), unfortunately, is not yet available. But it is known that activating the special Endurance Mode allows you to increase autonomy by 15%.

Design

The creators of Vernee Thor Plus opted for the classics: a fairly thin (7.9 mm) metal body, smooth shapes and a hardware Home button at the bottom of the screen. There are also fashion trends: the smartphone display has very thin side frames, and on the outside it is protected by impact-resistant glass with a 2.5D effect.

The “Power” and volume control keys are on the right, and on the left is Vernee’s proprietary E-Key button for activating the Endurance Mode mentioned above. Above it is a tray for SIM cards and microSD. The 3.5 mm connector is located at the top, MicroUSB is at the bottom in the middle.

In general, without any special tricks. If we compare the design of Vernee Thor Plus and the company’s previous long-playing smartphone, Thor E, we can note greater accuracy of execution. Despite its simplicity, the device began to look noticeably more noble and more expensive.

In addition, one cannot help but praise the Chinese engineers for being able to place a battery of impressive capacity in such a thin body. This became possible thanks to the high-density PCBA technology. Until now, no one has really succeeded in doing this.

"Filling"

Vernee Thor Plus is based on an eight-core mobile processor. By today's standards, this is far from the most productive solution, but it copes with everyday tasks with a bang. If desired, you can run gaming applications that are not the most resource-demanding on it.

The Thor Plus developers should only be praised for the amount of memory: they not only supplied the maximum 3 GB of RAM for the MT6753, but also 32 GB of built-in eMMC memory, which is enough even without installing a MicroSD memory card in most cases. Many competitors have only 16 Gb.

As for the Vernee Thor Plus screen, this is the situation. With a diagonal of 5.5 inches, 720x1280 pixels, of course, is not enough. However, it is based on a Super AMOLED matrix with bright rich colors, excellent viewing angles, and lower power consumption compared to IPS.

The connection of the new Vernee is fine. The smartphone supports 4G LTE Category 4 networks and the ability to install two SIM cards (though the tray is a hybrid one). As for the list of frequencies, Thor Plus is fully compatible with both Russian and Ukrainian operators.

The Vernee Thor Plus firmware out of the box is based on the Android 7.0 Nougat mobile OS, on top of which the proprietary VOS shell runs. During the development of the latter, the emphasis was placed on speed of operation (no frills) and autonomy. In particular, the number of active applications can be limited to six.

Equipment

  • Smartphone
  • Charger
  • USB -> MicroUSB cable
  • SIM tray extractor
  • User guide

In general, the set is quite sparse, so when purchasing, you should immediately order a case, a headset/headphones and, if desired, additional protective glass or film.

Comparison with competitors

Finding a smartphone even close to Vernee Thor Plus is very difficult. The first thing that comes to mind is Oukitel K6000 Pro. It is based on the same hardware, has a 6000 mAh battery and even boasts a screen with a FullHD resolution of 1080x1920 pixels.

However, from the point of view of autonomy, the latter is rather a disadvantage of the K6000 Pro compared to the new Thor: the more pixels, the higher the power consumption. In addition, the Oukitel product uses an IPS matrix, which itself is more power-hungry than AMOLED.

But the main disadvantages of the K6000 Pro in comparison with the Vernee Thor Plus are its impressive dimensions (almost 1 cm thick and weighing as much as 214 g), as well as a higher price tag. In addition, the Oukitel smartphone can be upgraded to a “nougat” exclusively “over the wire,” which requires certain qualifications.

You can also remember with a 6050 mAh battery. However, due to its more powerful “filling”, it cannot boast of the same high levels of autonomy as Thor Plus. And don’t forget about the very respectable dimensions and the same 214 g as the previous competitor.

Other alternatives:

  • Leagoo Shark 1 has a 6300 mAh battery and a relatively compact size. However, updates have been discontinued (there is definitely no official “nougat” in sight) and it is very difficult to find on sale.
  • Doogee S6000 is a rare and, moreover, outdated model. Mediocre performance by today's standards.
  • HomTom HT6 - similar.
  • Highscreen Boost 3 SE - rough design, "brick", strange characteristics.

Total

As you can see above, Vernee Thor Plus is a truly unique smartphone of its kind, which combines the highest autonomy, fairly decent technical characteristics and compact size. And all this for $129.99!

So if you need a “long-lasting” device for all occasions, take this Thor, you won’t regret it! Even though Vernee is not the most famous Chinese brand at the moment, for the second year now it has been releasing some of the most interesting new products.

Video

A brief presentation of the long-playing Vernee Thor Plus from the manufacturer in two videos.

The modern mobile phone market is quite complex and multifaceted - large companies are trying to produce high-quality smartphones, but they simply have to increase the cost for the sake of profit, and small manufacturers produce smartphones almost at cost, but few people buy them because of the unknown name. A new product called Vernee Thor Plus should change that. The manufacturer put a lot of energy and imagination into the smartphone, so the new product turned out to be very stylish, attractive, it has nothing superfluous in its design, plus it has quite a powerful filling that will allow you to play your favorite games and get moral satisfaction from it. And, of course, it is worth noting that this product will be very affordable for any user, while competitors with the same set of advantages turn out to be a very expensive pleasure.

Filling

The performance of the mobile phone is based on the MTK6753 processor from MediaTek, which you have already seen on some new smartphones this year. The advantage of the processor in eight computing cores and a high clock frequency of 1.3 gigahertz allows you to play all modern gaming products, enjoy watching movies in high definition, and so on. The performance of the mobile phone will be supported by 3 gigabytes of RAM, which is enough for the product with a large margin, because today applications cannot use so much RAM at once. On the other hand, there is no such thing as too much RAM. There are 32 gigabytes of built-in memory for storing personal content, which is enough for both the first time and for those who do not carry films in batches with them. If you are not a fan of films, then you don’t even have to buy a memory card.

Case design

Perhaps the main advantage of the smartphone can be called its body design - the absence of unnecessary elements on the front panel, the absence of unnecessary inscriptions. On the front side of the smartphone there is only a display, a hardware Home key and a speaker with a camera, which looks very attractive and stylish; some large companies should learn from Vernee. On the back side there is a camera that does not protrude beyond the body, there is also a flash and dividing strips for the cellular antenna. In general, I liked the appearance of the product, and you?

Bonuses

The display diagonal is 5.5 inches and this is perhaps the biggest advantage of the smartphone. Thanks to the large diagonal, it will be more pleasant and convenient for you to work with applications, type messages, play games, and so on - always, the larger the screen, the more pleasant it is to use your smartphone. The resolution is 1280 by 720 pixels, the matrix is built using IPS technology, which means there will be no problems with picture quality. I was pleased with the 13 megapixel rear camera - it takes good pictures in daylight, and you can record video in decent resolution.

Bottom line

The official price of the new smartphone is $169, which is a very tasty price tag for such a design, such filling and capabilities of the device. Of course, you should understand that this is the price from the online store. You also have the opportunity to get a $20 discount if you pre-order, which will lower the price tag to $149 and then the product will be absolutely gorgeous. For that kind of money, it is very difficult to find a worthy competitor, and the brand has already become more or less famous; this is not some new company without a history and ready-made solutions.

Comments and reviews Vernee Thor Plus

Today we will talk about a rather unusual project, which is made in stylish graphics, it has a lot of in...

On October 31, a presentation of Meizu took place in Moscow, which was dedicated to their return to the Russian market. ...

From the title of the article you can understand why the Vernee Thor Plus smartphone is worth paying attention to. Most models of Chinese smartphones are equipped with an IPS matrix and it has already become the de facto standard. You don’t often see Super AMOLED matrices in budget devices, at least not yet. And the combination of a high-contrast matrix, a high-capacity battery and price make Thor Plus a very interesting smartphone.

The performance of the smartphone is “average”; it has an eight-core MTK6753 processor with a core frequency of 1.3 GHz, the same Cortex A53. The Mali-T720 GPU will not allow you to play many games at maximum graphics. In Antutu it scores 37,000 points.

The cost of Vernee Thor Plus today (August 29, 2017) is approximately $150. From September 1 to September 15, the price will be reduced to $140.

Pros of Thor Plus:

  • Capacious battery (6200mA);
  • Super Amoled screen;
  • RAM 3GB, permanent memory 32GB
  • Screen resolution HD (1280x720p);

There is nothing special to say. Quite recently on our site there was one that runs on the same processor and has the same amount of RAM, as well as a not small 5020mA battery. So the performance of Vernee Thor Plus and Thor E is on the same level. The only difference is the type of display matrix.

Super AMOLED screens consume more power than IPS screens of similar resolution. But nevertheless, if we compare these two smartphones in terms of autonomy, then Vernee Thor Plus slightly outperforms Thor E:

  • Thor E – 18 hours of video, 720 hours of standby time.
  • Thor Plus – 20 hours of video, 750 hours of standby time.

There's not much to say based on appearance. The smartphone does not stand out from other smartphones: a neat design with grooves on the back and a physical button with a fingerprint sensor.

Fans of Vernee and long-lasting smartphones now have a choice: Thor Plus or Thor E. Or you can look at the new product for the same money.

The difference is $35-40 in favor of the second, but Thor Plus has a Super AMOLED screen and 32GB of permanent memory (16GB more). The choice is yours.

Another Chinese budget employee has come to us for review – Vernee Thor Plus. The smartphone, in general, is classic, if you don’t go into too much detail about the specifications. In terms of design, it’s a familiar block with sloping edges, the “filling” is rather dull, and the cameras are averagely lousy. But there are a couple of features in it that can push you to buy this particular one. Firstly, a huge battery. Secondly, the AMOLED screen. For me, this is the ideal ratio for lovers of long web surfing and watching movies on a smartphone. But is everything really that good? Let's move on to the review of Vernee Thor Plus to understand everything.

Characteristics

Contents of delivery

The smartphone arrived in an ordinary white box. It stands out only with the Vernee logo, which the manufacturer placed on the top side of the package. Inside is a classic package: power adapter, microUSB cable, instructions, tool for removing the SIM tray. No cases or headphones included.

Externally, as already noted, Vernee Thor Plus is not much different from a bunch of other smartphones. From the front it looks a lot like the Meizu lineup, from the back it looks like every second smartphone of the last couple of years. It looks quite simple, does not have any catchy elements, which can partly be called an advantage.

Vernee Thor Plus is available in black and gold. In both cases the front is black.

The back of the smartphone is represented by a metal plate with plastic inserts on top and bottom - a classic. Looks pretty neat. The coating is matte, more practical than gloss, which instantly becomes covered with stains and scratches. The dimensions of Vernee Thor Plus, if we take into account the battery capacity, are acceptable. The thickness is 8.7 mm, the smartphone is quite weighty - just over 190 grams. Everything is good with ergonomics - if your fingers are long, you can use it with one hand. Those with a standard palm will have to take the Vernee Thor Plus in two hands - all 5.5 inches, and the frames are quite wide.

The elements are arranged according to the classics - everything is in its place. There is a touch button on the front, which also combines a fingerprint scanner (not mechanical, cannot be pressed). On the sides there are two more touch buttons, made in the form of small non-illuminated dots. As for me, this is a solution. It was possible to make one touch-mechanical button on which to hang all the actions. How this is implemented in the same Meizu or ZUK. I'm probably just being picky.

Naturally, at the top there is a peephole for the front camera, a slot for the earpiece and a window for sensors. The bottom end of the Vernee Thor Plus is represented by a microUSB connector and a pair of perforation grilles, behind one of which the main speaker is hidden, and behind the other is a microphone. Here's another complaint from Vernee - why microUSB again? And not only to Vernee. It’s clear that it’s a budget segment, but I don’t think a USB Type-C port costs that much. It’s time for third-tier companies to join the general trend and abandon the connector, which is becoming obsolete every day.

On top there is a 3.5 mm headphone port. Maybe in the flagship segment it’s fashionable to abandon physical connectors, but in the budget segment this is not yet accepted. And it pleases. On the right edge of the Vernee Thor Plus there is a power button and a sound level adjustment rocker. On the left is a hybrid tray for SIM cards and microSD, as well as a button to activate the E-ink mode (more on that later). On the back there is only one camera, a flash and at the very bottom - the company logo.

During the review, the design of the Vernee Thor Plus neither impressed nor disappointed me. This is a classic smartphone that is quite pleasant to use. It's not the thinnest, but it also has a very impressive battery. It has fairly wide bezels, but not so wide as to irritate or interfere with your work.

One of the features that makes you think about purchasing Vernee Thor Plus. The manufacturer claims a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display (). HD resolution (1280x720 pixels), which provides a density of 267 pixels per inch. There are probably no other smartphones in this price segment with a similar display. And if there is, then these are quite old solutions.

The Super AMOLED matrix provides excellent viewing angles and stunning pictures. You will especially be pleased with the black color. The fact is that AMOLED technology involves the use of organic light-emitting diodes, each of which is illuminated separately. That is, when the screen is black, there is practically no backlight. IPS matrices, which are more common, have a special layer that illuminates the entire display. This leads to the fact that the black color often fades into grayish shades, which lack saturation and depth.

And in general, if we compare the Vernee Thor Plus screen with other smartphones in this price category, the hero of our review, as a rule, looks much more interesting. The image is more realistic and juicy. There are no problems with the brightness reserve, although if you wish, you can find a brighter IPS screen in this segment. The Vernee Thor Plus display is covered with protective glass, which is slightly rounded at the corners. Its origin is unknown for certain, but the quality is quite decent. There is an oleophobic layer. Supports the screen up to 5 simultaneous touches.

E-ink mode

Well, one more “trick”. Vernee Thor Plus received quite interesting E-ink technology. I mentioned above that there is a button on the left side to activate it. E-ink turns the smartphone screen into black and white mode - something like the screen of an e-book. This technology was also presented in previous smartphones of the Vernee model range, but it was of minimal use, since they use IPS displays.

Returning a little higher, where I wrote about the fact that the AMOLED matrix is not illuminated when the color is black, we find that in the case of Thor Plus, this mode can be useful. True, you should not count on the fact that you will be able to “play” or play movies using E-ink for days. It offers a limited set of features (calls, SMS, calendar and some others), which can come in handy when there is very little charge left and you won’t be able to get to a power outlet soon.

Performance

There is now a widespread problem with hardware in the lower segment. Almost all companies (the exceptions are Xiaomi, Coolpad LeEco) install MediaTek processors in their budget smartphones, and not the latest ones. Vernee Thor Plus has an old eight-core MT6753 clocked at up to 1.3 GHz. It is complemented by the old Mali Mali-T720 graphics chip. The tandem of old people is not bad in everyday tasks, but they cope with demanding games and resource-intensive applications with a groan.

I'm glad that there is 3 GB of RAM - with graphic tasks everything is difficult, but at least with multitasking everything is not bad. 32 GB permanent memory + you can install a memory card up to 128 GB.

In the AnTuTu test, Vernee Thor Plus scores around 37,000 points. It was especially decided not to “drive” the smartphone with benchmarks - systems of this type have been tested many times, why mock the old man.

In general, there are no problems with everyday tasks (web surfing, instant messengers, simple games, etc.). If you really really love mobile games, and not just any kind of farms, we recommend finding something more solid. Here, for example, .

Communication, sound

You can install two nano SIM cards, you can install one SIM card and a microSD memory card. Vernee Thor Plus operates in 4G, supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, and has GPS and GLONASS for navigation. Everything works well, there is an error during navigation, but it is not critical (about 20-30 meters, not always).

The smartphone, as we noted, has a fingerprint scanner built into the Home button. It works “on a budget” - it’s not too fast, it doesn’t always work the first time.

The sound of Vernee Thor Plus is normal, like most smartphones, not only this one, but also those of higher classes. The speaker is loud enough, but you won't get any refined quality with distinct lows and highs. And the manufacturer, in fact, makes no promises.

operating system

The most uninteresting part of Chinese smartphone reviews is usually getting to know the operating system. It's all the same here. While smartphones from more well-known manufacturers often have a proprietary shell that is interesting to dig into, cheap Chinese ones are the same in this regard. The software part of Vernee Thor Plus is based on almost “pure” Android 7.0 Nougat. The user interface design is absolutely nothing surprising.

We managed to find something new in the “Settings” menu. The manufacturer has crammed a whole bunch of additional options, both necessary and unnecessary. All of them can be turned on and off at will, so this is definitely a plus for the OS. You can, for example, enable the “Quick access to the camera” function, thanks to which you can launch the camera by double pressing the power button. Or customize the status bar of Vernee Thor Plus at your discretion - you can change everything.

During our review, the Vernee Thor Plus received a system update once, which was said to bring some fixes. In general, Vernee smartphones are well supported by the manufacturer, receiving quite often and many updates. True, as reviews from users of Vernee devices say, updates often do not correct them, but introduce even more errors. You can follow the release of Vernee Thor Plus firmware updates on the 4PDA forum.

Vernee Thor Plus has only one main camera, which is good news. The manufacturer did the right thing by not cramming in a useless second sensor, which would create a spot around the object that would spoil the photo. Moreover, the price of the smartphone would probably be higher. And so, we have an unknown 13 megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture. What can you say about him? Good for the price of a smartphone. If the Vernee Thor Plus camera also shot at the level of its more expensive analogues, then it would be too good.

During the day, the photographs turn out good - this is something that even state employees can boast about today. At night, of course, everything is sad. HDR helps a little, but the resulting nighttime photos are still mediocre. Videos can only be recorded in FullHD resolution. Naturally, there is no stabilization, so the videos are mediocre, shaky and often blurry. Front camera 8 MP. Nothing stands out - selfies are of average quality.

Many users in reviews of Vernee Thor Plus complain about the very poor quality of indoor shooting. Apparently, the reason for this was the recent update, as stated by the majority of owners of this device. We are waiting for the next update or updating to the previous version.

What about the cameras? Not bad, but only during the day and with plenty of light, and if you don’t shoot video often, and if you’re not one of those who get to the bottom of every pixel in the photo. Are there any better options than Vernee Thor Plus? In this segment, all smartphones sell for approximately the same amount (if you don’t take into account smartphones from little-known companies that suddenly drop in price).

For a good camera you will have to shell out a larger budget. Maybe someone will find it useful - (from fresh).

Autonomy

Another advantage of a smartphone. Vernee Thor Plus, as stated by the manufacturer, has a 6200 mAh battery. The capacity is impressive, but only on paper. As many users state in reviews, as well as other resources, the Vernee Thor Plus battery is actually 5800 mAh. This is indicated on the battery. This is not the first time that a manufacturer has sinned by exaggerating the actual battery capacity. And many sellers on AliExpress seem to have repeatedly received complaints about the actual capacity, so now they indicate side by side that they do not accept disputes if the numbers differ from those stated. Just like that.

But, despite this nuance, the autonomy of the Vernee Thor Plus is quite good. Let's not forget that an AMOLED display is used, which, in addition to rich colors, is also less battery-hungry than IPS. And the resolution is not the highest. So what's the result? The smartphone can confidently withstand a couple of days without recharging in active use mode. It can play video for about 20 hours if you set the brightness to 50%.

Supports Vernee Thor Plus fast charging technology. The battery is completely filled in about two and a half hours, which is very good for such a capacity.

Vernee Thor Plus: where to buy, price, analogues

Now you can buy Vernee Thor Plus at a price of around 7700-8500 rubles. The price is quite reasonable, taking into account each of the characteristics of the smartphone. You can order Vernee Thor Plus in any popular online store (we select sellers with the maximum number of orders, reasonable price and good reputation).

What analogues does Vernee Thor Plus have:

  • Oukitel K6000 Pro. It differs in screen (5.5 inches, IPS, FHD) and cameras. In addition, it is slightly thicker than the guest of our review. Otherwise, identical models.
  • Conclusion

In general, Vernee Thor Plus is not bad for the money that the manufacturer asks for it. Moreover, two things make it so – an AMOLED screen and a capacious battery. If we remove them, we have before us another faceless budget smartphone, of which there are plenty. Although Thor Plus still remains a low-segment solution, despite the matrix type. Its “stuffing” is outdated, the cameras shoot well only for this class, and the only additional features that can be distinguished are E-ink. We definitely recommend Vernee Thor Plus to users who love the rich colors produced by AMOLED, but do not want to pay too much for a smartphone. Naturally, we also advise fans of high autonomy to take a closer look, since the new product really has no problems with this.
