Description of Elephone P7000

Elephone P7000 is super top.

While most companies limit themselves to one flagship device and concentrate on its promotion and sale, Elephone releases one top-end device after another. This time the smartphone received both excellent technical characteristics and an impressive appearance. The metal body looks stylish, everything is very concise, no unnecessary details. The fingerprint scanner under the rear camera is made in an unusual format. There is no longer any need to swipe your finger across the scanner, just put your finger on it and the sensor will recognize the fingerprint from any angle. The speakers are located on the bottom, which is undoubtedly more efficient than the standard arrangement of speakers on the back of the phone.
5.5 inch the display has resolution FullHD(1920 by 1080), RAM capacity 3GB, a new 64-bit processor is selected MT6752, having 8m cores operating at a frequency 1.7GHz. Of course, the processor provides network support LTE. The rear camera received optics Sony and resolution 16MP, front camera 8MP.
The P7000 is powered by a battery with a capacity 3200mAh.
To complete the above picture, it is worth mentioning that the model works under the control Android 5.0.
There is nothing in the phone that can put off a future buyer, but the main thing is that its price does not look exorbitant. Engineers and designers did their best. Bravo Elephone.

Contents of delivery

The smartphone arrived to me by airmail, and apparently the box took a good beating in the “postal turbulence”; it turned out to be significantly dented, but the goods were not damaged.

The equipment is standard, declared by the manufacturer: smartphone, flip case (with magnet), protective glass, protective film, microUSB cable, charger, and the box itself)

Charger power 1 Ampere, headset not included.

Appearance, ergonomics, display

The smartphone has a stunning design, and indeed a real design, and stands out among its competitors with an interesting appearance that literally immediately attracts the attention of people around.

On the front side there are both standard elements: a 5MP front camera peephole, a speaker slot, proximity and light sensors, a 5.5" FHD (1920*1080 pixel) IPS OGS screen; and non-standard touch buttons. The screen is extremely successful, in addition decent characteristics, the screen has maximum viewing angles and does not distort colors at all when tilted, only the brightness changes slightly.

The main “Home” button has customizable backlighting and functions as a notification indicator - very original and beautifully designed, the “Back” and “Menu” buttons are located closer to the edges and are not marked in any way, it looks interesting. At the very bottom there is a microphone hole.

The lower end face has symmetrical groups of holes, but only the right one is designed to output sound from a loud music speaker. At the top end there is a standard microUSB connector and a 3.5mm headset jack. There is a power button on the right, and a volume rocker on the left. All edges are decorated with metal inserts, which gives an additional positive effect.

On the back side there is the main camera with flash, a fingerprint scanner and the Elephone logo.

On the lid there is a battery compartment, a slot for a micro-SIM card, a slot for a regular mini-SIM card and a memory card.

The weight of the fully assembled smartphone is 180 grams, the entire battery is almost 60 grams.

Performance

The “driver” of the smartphone is the powerful 64-bit MTK6752 processor, which has 8 Cortex-53 cores operating at frequencies up to 1.7 GHz. Overall high performance is supported by 3GB of RAM, this amount is typical for this year’s flagship devices.

The smartphone allows you to play all modern games without any problems, without worrying about future ones, because... it is guaranteed, in the future for 1-2 years, to remain quite productive, including thanks to the powerful built-in graphics core Mali-T760 MP2. All games that currently exist will run easily at maximum settings, for example games such as Asphalt 8, GTA SA, Mortal Combat, Nova 3.
During intense operation, the smartphone heats up within completely normal limits; the smartphone is simply warm to the touch, while the actual processor temperature reaches only 68 degrees.

Communication and navigation

The smartphone supports both standard 2G and 3G modes of voice data transmission and the Internet, as well as the most modern 4G FDD-LTE standard with full RF frequency bands. The transfer speed exceeded all expectations, reaching a fantastic 33 Mbit/s not only for receiving data, but also when uploading from a smartphone. Testing was carried out on the network of the Megafon operator in the Kemerovo region.

The chipset used in the smartphone allows not only high-quality communication and access to the Internet, but also the use of precise positioning using satellites of the American GPS and Russian GLONASS. The tests carried out showed reliable reception of satellites, without failures or delays. The receiver in motion provides high accuracy of data, does not “walk” and does not move to the sides from the real location.

Sound and vibration

The sound of the speech speaker has a pleasant tonality, has a sufficient level of high frequencies and does not mumble. The musical speaker produces good sound, without the predominance of any individual frequencies, the amplitude-frequency response is approximately even to the ear, both high frequencies and low frequencies can be heard, and medium frequencies are at a normal level. The volume of both speakers is more than sufficient; there is no wheezing or distortion at maximum volume.
It’s worth mentioning vibration separately, because it’s not just vibration, it’s VIBRATION! Previously, on old dialers, we could see how the phone could vibrate on the table when there was an incoming call, and when I felt the vibration on the P7000, I immediately remembered exactly this picture. But of course the mass is 180g. will not allow the smartphone to move freely, but the vibration is strong enough to be felt in your pocket or even heard in silence.

Photo

The smartphone has a main Sony IMX214 camera that takes photos in 13MP resolution and video in FHD resolution (1920*1080). There is a lot of information on this camera on the Internet, but in addition to the excellent hardware capabilities of the matrix itself, there is also a software component implemented in the firmware. Despite the fact that the smartphone just went on sale, the current software allows you to take high-quality pictures and videos. Photo clarity is excellent, focusing time is fast. A small drawback is that in bright sunlight the photos are not bright enough, but within an acceptable range. I think this little thing will be corrected in the next firmware, which the manufacturer uploads and updates on its official website. The sound volume and quality of video recording are quite normal.
The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels, even in low light conditions it produces a good picture with adequate colors.
The Camera application itself is standard and has the usual settings and there is no point in stopping there.
Examples of photographs and video footage you can

Fingerprint scanner, screen off actions, flip case, event indicator

The smartphone is equipped with a fingerprint scanner. The finger can be placed in any position, the scanner recognizes with high accuracy and practically does not make mistakes. You can configure 5 fingerprints to perform different actions - unlocking the screen, launching different applications.
In addition, the smartphone can be configured to perform actions when the screen is off - in rest mode, you can double tap and the smartphone will wake up. You can also configure other gestures to perform various applications, be it launching a camera, player, etc.
The included flip case has a magnetic strip that, acting on the Hall sensor in the smartphone, causes the screen to turn off or turn on when opened. The round window of the case displays information about incoming calls, or a player widget or a nice clock (digital or analog, depending on the settings).
The “Home” button has a backlight that can be customized by color. In the settings, you can assign different backlight colors to different types of events - red, yellow, blue, violet, white, purple.

Battery and operating time

The smartphone claims a 3450 mAh battery. That's a lot, and what's more, it's true. I have no reason to doubt this. The battery is lithium-polymer, the charge density of such batteries is higher than that of conventional lithium-ion batteries. Let me remind you that the weight of the battery is almost 60 grams. For comparison, the weight of the battery with a confirmed capacity of 3300 mAh of the Lenovo A936 smartphone is 55 grams. I think more evidence is unnecessary.

The operating time of the smartphone under a load of approximately “calls + an hour of Internet + Skype messages + an hour a day of heavy games” will be two days and there will still be 25-30% left, which may not be enough on the 3rd day and you still have to put it on charge. In “calls and Internet” mode, the smartphone will work for up to three days.

Summary

By purchasing this smartphone, I got everything I wanted, as was described at the beginning of the review. A powerful processor and modern communication capabilities make communication and leisure easy; a smartphone will allow you not to constantly carry a charger with you and perform all your tasks as accurately and quickly as an experienced mathematician takes a double integral.
And not only will you like the attractive appearance, but it will also attract the attention of your colleagues and family.
While using the smartphone, the manufacturer has already released a firmware update on its official website, do not forget to check the OTA update for your Elephone P7000 in the smartphone settings.
I believe that I made the right choice, and I wish the same for you. Have a good day!

Best regards, ValeriyVK.

Good day to all!

In my review today we will talk about a hot new product in gold color - namely Elephone P7000. At the moment this is one of the latest models from Elephone. Ever since the announcement of this smartphone, I couldn’t wait to test it, because this device has the brand new 5th Android and the best hardware. The smartphone also has a fingerprint scanner and an interestingly designed central touch button on the front panel. Well, now let's talk about everything in order.

Equipment. The smartphone comes in an unusually large and massive gray box. On one side you can see the Pioneer inscription and a fingerprint, and on the reverse side the brand logo.

Opening the box we will see:

○ Smartphone

○ Charger

○ USB cable for charging and connecting to a computer

○ Protective glass in a special box

○ Smart case to match your smartphone style

○ Instructions.

Now let’s look at our review hero in more detail. At first, as soon as I picked up this smartphone, I did not feel any discomfort. It feels secure in your hand and doesn’t tend to slip out.

However, as soon as you twirl the smartphone in your hands, the squeaks of the back cover become noticeable. I think this is a manufacturer's fault. Such squeaks should not exist, especially on a device of this cost.

The smartphone is made in one color scheme - it is completely gold. Thus, the manufacturer tried to make the device more expensive and chic. Well, in principle they succeeded. Because in this particular color it doesn’t look bad, and even more so for a female audience.

On the front panel of the smartphone there is a light sensor, a proximity sensor, as well as a front camera and a speaker. Below we will see a slightly non-standard solution - there is only one visible touch button, which has a multi-color backlight. But don’t despair, because this smart device also has two invisible buttons! They are not visible, but they are there. There is a microphone hole nearby.

The smartphone has an eight-color signal LED, and you can manually and separately assign the button color for normal mode and missed events/battery charge.

On top of the smartphone there are two connectors - 3.5mm audio and microUSB. There are holes for the speaker at the bottom, but there is only one speaker and is located on the left side, the second hole is decorative. As for the sound, it’s average in volume and didn’t surprise me with anything special.

On the right side of the smartphone there is an on/off/lock button. There is also a recess for removing the back cover, which can be put on with little effort.

On the left side there is only a volume rocker.

During use, I noticed that the back cover at the bottom does not fully adhere to the body; there is a gap of ~1mm.

Let's look at the smartphone from behind. The back cover is made with imitation metal, with small stripes. At the top there is a peephole for the main camera, and to the left of it there is an LED flash. In terms of brightness, it is comparable to the dual LED backlight of the Meizu MX4 smartphone.

But the most important thing is the fingerprint scanner, it is made in the shape of a circle (360 degrees). In the process of using it, I formed an opinion on its work. Unlocking is performed in 4 out of 5 attempts, and if you make all 5 available fingerprints with different sides of the same finger, the percentage of successful unlocks increases noticeably. In general, to sum up today’s review, I can say that I liked the Elephone P7000 smartphone, the build quality should be improved in the next batches. Fresh firmware is released regularly, Elephone does not forget about the owners of its devices, and this is good news. Problems and malfunctions of devices are resolved, there is even Russian-speaking support on the offsite. There are no significant disadvantages as such in this device. At the moment, the price for the P7000 is set at $229, but there are various coupons and discounts, and this smartphone can be purchased at a more attractive price. I think the price of about $200 is quite appropriate for this model.

Introduction

Not long ago, the Chinese company Elephone began selling its next “masterpiece” called Pioneer. Frankly speaking, when I saw this inscription on the box, I thought that a Japanese corporation had a hand in the production. It turned out that “Pioneer” is just the name of the device.

The device is interesting because for only $230 it offers impressive technical characteristics, comparable to the parameters of flagship models from famous manufacturers for a lot of money. The first thing worth noting is the eight-core 64-bit processor. Of course, this won’t surprise anyone now, but it’s always nice to know that under the hood there is such a powerful chipset from MediaTek. The second is as many as three gigabytes of RAM. Third, a metal body and protected Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Fourth, LTE, never hurts, especially if the connection works perfectly with all operators in Russia. Fifth, important for many, is a capacious 3450 mAh battery. Finally, here this value is real, unlike other Chinese devices, where one thing is stated, but in fact, the gadget works for half a day at best. The sixth, probably not the most interesting, but it will work as a feature - a fingerprint sensor. The seventh is an excellent package.

Overall, it’s a cool smartphone, but as they say, “the devil is in the details.”

Design, dimensions, control elements

Lately, terribly scary Chinese smartphones have been coming to me. Yes, from a distance they look good, but up close you can see all the nuances of a crooked assembly, poorly made parts, and so on. Fortunately, the Elephone P7000 does not suffer from all this; it really looks good both in the picture and in person: a fairly strict design, stylish appearance, excellent build, high-quality materials. That is, if it weren’t for the strange nameplate on the back of the Pioneer in the form of two ears or two eyes with a nose, then I would have thought that this was another flagship device, for example, from Huawei.

The case is oval in shape with strongly smoothed corners, and the back cover is also sloping. It fits well in the hand thanks to its moderate dimensions (155x76x8.9 mm) and fairly light weight for such a gadget - 122 grams including battery.

The device is available in three colors: gray, white and gold. The gadget we reviewed was white, that is, the front side and cover are white, and the edging is golden. In the case of the gray P7000, the body is gray and the edging is silver. And the one that looks like gold has a body that is completely the same color.

The front part is protected by third generation Corning Gorilla Glass. Despite the strength of the material, the manufacturer played it safe by adding special glass (9H+) to the kit. During testing, nothing bad happened to the screen: no scratches, no chips, no abrasions.

There is an oleophobic coating. Perhaps not the best quality, but fingerprints are not very noticeable and are easily erased, and the finger glides well over the surface.

The thin edging around the perimeter of the front panel is plastic, painted white. The thick edging is roughly ground metal (magnalium - an alloy of aluminum and magnesium, as well as small amounts of copper, nickel and tin) of a golden color. The material is soft, so I somehow managed to “plant” a small dent on the bottom end.

The back cover is made of semi-gloss plastic. Externally, it looks like white-painted metal, like the Samsung A-series. Fingerprints on the Elephone cover are invisible, and the material is not very slippery.

Once again I would like to repeat that the gadget looks decent, no match for many similar Chinese crafts.

There is a speech speaker on the top of the front panel. It has high volume, clear sound, excellent intelligibility. To the left of it is the front camera, to the right are light and proximity sensors. Here, as in some devices from the Middle Kingdom, the proximity sensor does not work well: during a conversation, you can accidentally press the microphone mute. I had several such situations during the testing period. Oukitel U8 had the same problem (the bug was later fixed with firmware).

Below the display there are touch buttons. The central one is responsible for accessing the desktop and activating the menu with previously running applications. The button is funny: in the settings you can easily change the backlight color (red, yellow, green, white, blue, purple, cyan). It is also an indicator of missed events.

On the left and right (they are not visible, there is no backlight) there are two touch buttons “Menu” and “Back”. Just below is the microphone.

At the bottom end on the right there are five small holes (speaker), and on the left there is decoration.

The volume button is on the left. It is thin, almost recessed into the body. On the right is the power key, which also acts as a backlight activation button.

At the top end there is a 3.5 mm audio output for headphones and a microUSB connector.

On the reverse side: a single-section LED flash with a cool glow, a camera lens framed by a metal ring, a recessed fingerprint sensor.

The latter has a diameter of 11 mm, recognizes 360-degree touches, and is quite fast. I can’t say anything special about the sensor - a typical feature of many Chinese (and not only) smartphones.

The back cover is removable. It is hooked onto the notch at the bottom left. At the top center is a slot for a microSD memory card, connectors for miniSIM and microSIM. The battery is also removable.

Display

This device uses a screen with a diagonal of 5.5 inches. Physical size – 68x121 mm, frame on top – 15 mm, bottom – 18 mm, on the right and left – approximately 4.5 mm. There is an anti-reflective coating, which is quite effective.

The display resolution of Elephone P7000 is FullHD, that is, 1920x1080 pixels, aspect ratio is 16:9, density is 400 pixels per inch. IPS matrix with an air gap.

The maximum brightness of white color is 330 cd/m2, the maximum brightness of black color is 0.26 cd/m2. Contrast ratio – 1268:1.

The white line is the goal we are trying to achieve. The yellow line (the average amount of red, green and blue) is the actual screen data. You can see that we are directly above the target curve, which means that for every value between 0 and 100 the image is slightly overexposed.

The average gamma value is about 2.

Judging by the levels graph, there is a clear excess of blue, and the value “jumps” depending on the brightness.

The temperature changes sharply depending on the brightness level: from 8000 K to 7000 K, then again “goes” to 8500 K. That is, at medium brightness the colors will be the most natural.

Judging by the diagram, the data obtained does not quite correspond to the sRGB triangle. It is quite strongly shifted down to the right.

Almost all gray points are located outside the DeltaE=10 radius, which indicates that other shades of colors will be present in gray colors.

The viewing angles are maximum; at angles the picture does not become violet or yellow.

Without going into details, I didn’t really like the screen: I would have liked a higher backlight brightness, a little richer color. However, for the money the display is quite normal.

Battery

This model uses a removable lithium polymer (Li-Pol) battery with a capacity of 3450 mAh. The manufacturer says that the device will work for about 8 hours in talk mode and about 96 hours in standby mode.

In my conditions, the Elephone P7000 “lived” for about a day and a half: during the entire time there was about an hour of calls, 7-8 hours of 3G/4G, 10-15 hours of Wi-Fi, the camera lasted about 20 minutes, about an hour of listening to music, 2.5 hours of screen light. In a more gentle mode, Pioneer operates for 3-4 days without problems, and up to a week in call mode.

In general, the results are comparable to those of the Meizu M1 Note.

Communication capabilities

The device operates not only in 2G/3G networks (GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100 MHz), but also 4G CAT 4 band 1/3/7/20 (FDD-LTE 800/ 1800/2100/2600 MHz). Both SIM card slots “understand” LTE.

There is no NFC chip, the rest is standard for any Android smartphone: GPS, Wi-Fi b/g/n dual band (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 with OTG support.

Memory and memory card

This model uses as much as 3 GB of RAM. This volume is enough for everything. Now I’ll say something strange for many: 2 gigabytes is enough for me. It’s not entirely clear what 3, 4 or 5 GB is for: launch two or three games and switch between them, open 100,500+ tabs in the browser so that they don’t load again? For now, a large amount of RAM does not make much sense. About the same as with QuadHD resolution and higher: there is practically no difference compared to FullHD, but it’s cool. I wonder how Apple has been making iPhones for so many years with only 512 MB and 1 GB of RAM? And nothing is buggy, doesn’t slow down, everything loads as it should, and you can switch between games. These are all rhetorical questions, the answers to which I know, I just wanted to cool things down a little :)

Built-in memory 16 GB. Naturally, less is available to the user - about 12 GB. There is a slot for a microSD memory card.

Cameras

Traditionally, there are two camera modules: 13 MP (Sony IMX214, F2.0 aperture) and 5 MP (F2.4 aperture).

Despite the excellent characteristics, the main camera takes average pictures, especially in conditions when the subject is not well lit: the picture turns into “soap”, details are lost, focus is very difficult to achieve sharpness, and so on. In sunny weather, the frames are not bad, but the dynamic range is zero, that is, it is better not to use any effect related to brightness - noise and artifacts creep out. Another problem with the software is its poor performance with white balance: even when adjusted manually, the image often acquires yellow, red or purple hues.
