Behind the monolithic anti-radiation door of shelter No. 111, a brave new world awaits the user, which has radically changed both for the game protagonist and for the player himself. The role-playing game Fallout 4 presents both newcomers and experienced connoisseurs of the series with many surprises that can surprise and disappoint during your first steps.
Fortunately for newcomers and unfortunately for fans of the series, Fallout 4 carefully and relentlessly guides us through the first steps along the linear rails of the plot to teach all the intricacies of survival in post-apocalyptic Boston. In addition, in the upper corner of the screen and as levels load, tips are constantly displayed, explaining how to get food and how to deal with small mole rats. But even after such an exhaustive educational program, a number of points remain, the existence of which you will only learn after completing the game. Therefore, in this article we decided to help a newcomer to Fallout 4 and provide useful tips to make the most of the new features of the game.
1. Your Pip-Boy is too slow and bulky - use the quick menu
The stylish, retro-futuristic Pip-Boy wrist computer is one of the coolest pieces of technology in the wasteland, but the more you use it, the more obvious some of its shortcomings become. For example, when in battle you need to quickly equip some killer weapon, you have to open your inventory, patiently scroll the slider in search of the right thing, lost among dozens of weapons, and only then use it. Therefore, if you don’t like digging through your belongings in the midst of battle, use the quick equipment menu, which allows you to always have all the useful things at hand. The quick equipment menu has 12 slots in which you can equip any weapon, clothing, explosives, medicine, food, etc. - you will need all this during the next battle or quest.
The Pip-Boy wrist computer is a useful technology solution for the wasteland
2. Power armor eats batteries at an incredible rate.
The iconic power armor that appears on the cover of every game in the Fallout series has changed dramatically in the new edition of the post-apocalyptic universe. If in previous versions of the game power armor was a high-level clothing that did not particularly effectively protect against all the dangers of the wasteland, now it has turned into an autonomous robotic mechanism, greedy for nuclear batteries. Surprisingly, a beginner gets power armor almost in the first or second hour of the game. However, due to the chronic lack of nuclear charges and the brutal appetite of the fighting machine itself, a beginner will have to use his favorite armor exclusively during serious quests, when the qualitative and quantitative composition of the enemy exceeds the character’s combat skills. By the way, if your batteries suddenly run out in the post-nuclear wilderness, calmly leave your suit - your Pip-Boy will automatically place a mark on the map where you will find your mini-tank.
The armor has different resistances to physical damage and damage from energy weapons,
3. Pick up any little thing
In Fallout 4, in addition to combat, your character will have to explore the Boston wasteland and at the same time get food, weapons, medicine and much, much more. Therefore, to survive and thrive, your hero needs to collect a lot of things, and also know what to do with them later. So, some things are profitable to sell (pre-war money), others should be saved for a rainy day (ammo, nuclear charges for power armor), others should be used for crafting (wood, steel, glue, electrical tape, etc.), and others should be restored health (food, drinks, stimpaks), and the fifth - to fight (melee and ranged weapons, explosives, throwing weapons). And if you decide to devote your time in Fallout 4 to crafting and modifications, you should stock up on a fair amount of all kinds of resources. Therefore, pick up all the available trash and put it at the workbenches - you can craft a lot of useful things from this garbage. Never carry all the crafting items you find with you. If these are not weapons, medicines or food, feel free to store them in a secluded place, and later you will figure out what to do with them.
4. The VATS aiming system isn't just for pretty headshots
Unlike previous versions of Fallout, VATS now does not stop time, but only slows it down significantly, which makes your battles more dynamic and gives your enemies a little more chance of success. For example, if some feral dog is already aiming to bite you harder, then even VATS will not stop it.
However, VATS is suitable not only for shooting off unnecessary limbs of adversaries. The world of Fallout 4 is full of dark or very open places where it can be difficult to spot the enemy, especially if he has already started firing at you. VATS is perfect for these purposes - turn towards the intended enemy, activate this mode, and the aiming system will certainly highlight the enemy for you.
5. Craft a couple of deadly weapons
Already in the initial stages of the game, the player will find a significant amount of weapons, which are generously scattered throughout the wasteland or are in the inventory of defeated opponents. However, there is no point in carrying ten units of all kinds of firearms and laser guns. Decide which weapon you like best (and which deals the most lethal damage), then head back to the weapon workbench in Sanctuary Hills. Here you can disassemble unnecessary barrels into parts, and then, with their help and depending on the available perks, construct a couple of especially deadly weapons. And if you are too lazy to craft, get a pistol.
6. Scribe Heylin and knight Reese are your very first leveling friends
We suggest that you, as soon as possible after leaving shelter No. 111, take a walk to the Cambridge police station and complete the “To Arms” quest. As a result of this, you will join the ranks of the Boston Brotherhood of Steel, and also quickly complete quests in order to make friends with the scribe Heylin and the knight Reese.
They both ask you to complete simple tasks, often sending you to the same location. Their quests are simple and by completing 3-4 of these tasks you can earn enough experience in an hour to gain several levels of development. You will also gain experience for killing enemies, opening locks and discovering new locations. We advise you to immediately take the second rank of the Burglar perk, which allows you to open Expert level locks, which will allow you to find a bunch of useful things in the safes of police stations.
7. Give Mama Murphy drugs
But seriously, your communication style with some settlers can have a positive or negative effect on your reputation among others. Thus, the supply of drugs to Mama Murphy seriously worries the champion of morality and the head of the local Minutemen, Preston Garvey. Therefore, be careful in your actions, because many of them, in addition to positive aspects, can have unpleasant consequences.
8. Now the ghouls quickly attack you in a large crowd
Ghouls, who are people mutated by radiation, although they are not armed, in Fallout 4 they have learned to cooperate in their actions and suppress opponents with numbers and pressure. So if you are lucky enough to see them at a significant distance, do everything you can to reduce their numbers before they get to you. It is advisable to shoot at the legs. In addition, even fallen ghouls can feign death and then suddenly rise up with the desire to destroy you. Therefore, do not spare control shots for all defeated ghouls. If a group of ghouls finds you in a narrow space, take out your shotgun and move away.
Ghouls are old acquaintances of the Fallout protagonist. In the fourth part of the game they act in concert.
9. Explore all buildings
Mark each building that is part of the quest and find alternate entrances. As a rule, these are available in any building. What is it for? The front entrance is usually very well guarded and a crowd of heavily armed opponents is always waiting for you there to ensure a warm reception. Also beware of snipers on rooftops and automatic turrets inside buildings, as both of these hostile factors can seriously damage your health. Destroying a turret will require a lot of shots, but once destroyed it allows the player to gain a lot of ammo. You can also reprogram the turret server to set it on the enemy. Luckily, the turrets are stationary, so if you manage to get close and have an EMP grenade, you'll make short work of it.
10. Don't underestimate melee weapons
Of course, melee weapons are not always relevant, and they don’t look glamorous. However, their brutality and power make it possible to deal with mole rats, ghouls, and blowers hard and quickly, without wasting precious ammunition. Particularly good in this matter are the spiked bat and the electric chaser, which can be crafted already at early levels. They also perform well during battles in narrow corridor spaces against human opponents. Don't try to reach them when they are hiding behind an obstacle - quickly attack them and aim for the head!
11. Beware of legendary opponents
If in Fallout New Vegas the legendary enemies had a slightly larger size and amount of health, then in Fallout 4 they not only have the same advantages, but also become even more aggressive when receiving certain damage, which makes fighting them a serious test even for a trained fighter. But if you managed to put such a monster to rest, then expect a generous reward. Items marked with an asterisk are found on the corpses of legendary creatures. These may be weapons or pieces of armor with unique characteristics.
That's all. We hope our tips will make Fallout 4 easier and more fun, even without cheat codes. After all, this is exactly what is required from the game...

Lists will be updated as information becomes available.
Here I will describe my personal observations and the advice that comes from them.
-Try to create a character that is not like you. In the sense that if you like stability and choose a sniper, try choosing a machine gunner-fool or a thug with a grenade launcher, you will be pleased, roleplaying a sniper was basically quite boring, as soon as he started the game as a fool-lucky, everything became noticeably more interesting and dynamic.
Before choosing perks (skills), decide for yourself who you will play? A strongman in power armor, a sniper-saboteur, Rambo, an assassin.
Try to choose just one thing. Basically, the importance falls on the choice of only one of the weapons: pistols, carbines, machine guns or big guns.
When you choose to wield one weapon type, carry only that type with you. those. I'm playing a sniper-saboteur, I have upgraded carbines that are not automatic.
I have a carbine for close combat - a shotgun, for medium combat with a silencer, for long range - a sniper rifle, and one type of weapon with different effects (ballistic, energy, radiation, poison).
This means that this particular type of weapon will give maximum damage, you should not squander on another type of weapon, choose one.
Improve your skill in recognizing weak points in VATS, this will allow you to see in VATS mode how the enemy is protected from a certain weapon effect (ballistic, energy, radiation, poison).
those. If the enemy has a ballista (300) and an energy one (10), then you should attack him with a laser rifle, i.e. energy weapons.
I advise you to pump up explosives, they will be very useful at a high level of difficulty; if possible, craft cover mines, the most powerful mines that will be very useful to you.
At some points in the game, when fighting a strong enemy, it makes sense to place mines in advance; you yourself will not explode when you step on them, but damaging the enemy’s limbs is a big plus for your survival.
You shouldn't collect all the trash you find (except if you're taking trash for a settlement). The junk weighs a lot and costs little. Be especially wary of really bulky items. The trash should not weigh more than 0.5 kg.
From the trash it is worth taking glue, electrical tape, electronics, etc., costing from 20 caps. Be sure to collect pre-war money - the most profitable trash of all trash. Take everything from medicine! All this drug stuff... costs a lot!
Don't worry that there won't be enough junk to get rich, some cleared locations will be repopulated with enemies and filled with loot, so you can return to the same place again.
Don't buy a smoothbore - the price is too low.
Getting rich is easy, don’t use the game’s bugs, including selling the clean water you get. It's enough to sell junk. To do this, put on your most charismatic clothes before selling.
a hat, glasses, a suit, you can drink beer and take pills (which increase charisma), then trade will go with a bang.
Where to spend money? I’ll say right away that you shouldn’t invest in shops in settlements as passive income - there won’t be any. Five 3-level stores will supply up to 200 caps at an incomprehensible period of time.
This means that they will never pay off in the entire game. And yet, stores are very necessary, when you need to sell Khobar, and Diamond City is already sitting without money, go to the settlement and sell everything there. But know that stores in different settlements are connected in such a way that all sellers of the same type have a common assortment and number of lids, I don’t understand how this is possible.
For charisma, I advise you to complete the Trinity Tower quest, but be careful, it is a rather difficult quest, especially in the last part.
Settlements, I’ve been turning and turning these same settlements for a long time and I’ll say this - this is an absolutely useless waste of time, resources and money. The settlement does not provide any income at all!
The rubbish they sometimes add to the workshop or the profit from the stores is negligible. 200 caps from all stores is not serious.
At the beginning of the game, it is also worth choosing whether you will be a trader, a laborer, or lucky. Those. whether you choose more carrying weight or a good price from the deal or just find a lot of caps. I am inclined to carry more weight, since you can carry different types of weapons with you - this will help in battle, as well as different clothes to sell goods profitably.
It's worth leveling up your weapon lover to upgrade your weapons. There will be a lot of caps by the middle of the game, why? Yes, because there is nothing to buy from merchants, you simply won’t find the weapon you want, well, throughout the entire game I have not found such a thing in any store or from any killed enemy.
Basically, you should be interested in damage, but do not forget the exact purpose of the weapon, so a machine gun for close combat should have good hip-fire accuracy and a very high rate of fire. The weight of the weapon affects the speed of aiming; this is especially important if your weapon has a large spread and you have to look through the front sight all the time.
For sniper rifles, weight is not so much critical; damage and firing range are important here. Of the optical sights, I recommend the shortest one; I killed everyone with it throughout the entire game and didn’t feel any discomfort.
There is no need to upgrade lockpicking. Level up your hacker instead. The fact is that behind the castle there is usually just loot, but in the terminal you can disable/reconfigure turrets and robots, which can significantly help in survival. You will eventually meet Kate in the combat zone. She can pick any lock, take her with you and she will do everything.
This way you don't have to spend pumping points. Other companions also have outstanding qualities, explore them yourself.
VATS should be used at close range, when the enemy has already run up, and also to find out the enemy’s weak points and whether there are mines nearby.
The easiest way to fight opponents in power armor is with Molotov cocktails - they destroy the “tank driver” very quickly.
Deathclaws were destroyed fairly quickly by explosives (upgrade your Demoman!). I also advise you to take a high position for firing.
It is not the appearance of the weapon that is important, but its lethality and cost.
By using non-automatic carbines, you will save a significant amount of ammunition and even sell it over time. But it's a little boring.
Try using chemistry (vint, psycho), especially when fighting bosses.
Can't get past some place? - think over a new tactic (mines in this case helped me out many times).
Don't watch walkthroughs or anything like that. When you study it yourself, it is much more interesting.
A lot depends on your dialogue, play your role.
The wasteland can be a place where survival is much more difficult than one might think. Fallout 4 is significantly more difficult than expected, so be prepared to die a lot - at least until you become more careful. Try to follow the tips below - they are simple, but more than once they can save your life or at least simplify it.
Save as often as possible
Since Fallout 4 does not have a limited autosave system, take advantage of this - save the game as often as possible, fortunately, there is a separate button on the keyboard for this. In the settings you can make the game save itself as often as possible. However, remember that this setting only works when you enter and exit the Pip-Boy menu. At the same time, quick saving is available through the pause menu.
Also remember that it is better to create several different save files. Otherwise, you may just get stuck somewhere (for example, in some elevator), and your whole game will go down the drain.
Choose your preferred weapon type at the very beginning of the game and stick to it
Fallout 4 has perks for different types of weapons that give guns more damage and effectiveness, so it's best to decide on the type of weapon early in the game so you don't waste perk points later. It is worth saying that the 10mm pistol will be useful for a very long time, so it makes sense to invest in upgrading it.
If danger arises, run!
If you find yourself in a jam or see an enemy that you are unlikely to cope with, take advantage of the new feature in Fallout 4, sprint, and run away from the problem. In such situations, it is better not to use the VATS system when trying to kill a strong enemy with a critical hit - VATS and sprint use the same energy scale. By the way, if your companion is running with you, then do not worry about him - if you start to run away and see that he is still fighting valiantly, he will still not die and will end up next to you.
You can keep modifications to the weapons you find...
... but only until the moment when these weapons turned into scrap metal for one reason or another. You can also remove modifications from found weapons and attach them to your weapons - including legendary guns that you take from defeated bosses.
Feel free to use chemistry
If your inventory is full and you can’t even make a quick trip, steroids will come to the rescue, increasing your strength for a while and allowing you to carry your heavy load, for example, to a store, in order to sell it later. If you don’t have pills with you, then you can use alcohol - it also gives an increase in strength, although not as significant.
Chemistry and equipment can make you much more charming
The higher your charisma score, the more answer options are available in dialogues. And you can increase your chances of success in a conversation with a nice young lady who has the key you need with the help of your cool equipment. Sunglasses, for example, increase charisma - as do some suits. Some medications do the same. Just remember: if you wear power armor with a helmet and put on glasses, they will have no effect until you remove your formidable helmet.
You can pause the game and save during dialogues
If you really want to make every dialogue you have in Fallout 4 perfect and useful, then you can save the game right during conversations with NPCs. So if suddenly your answer option, using your charisma, for some reason did not work, then you can boot up and try to seduce this sweet young lady again.
The mods you create weigh a lot, and you'll likely be carrying them around with you all the time.
When you craft new modifications, the parts you replace are placed in your inventory. As a result, there may be so many of these parts that you will constantly walk around overloaded. So you can save a lot of free weight if you keep the modification parts in your storage.
You can create beautiful stands for your finds
This, of course, is not so important and useful, but still. You can make an aesthetic stand to display the bobbleheads you find, or a magazine rack for your Grognak the Barbarian collection.
Destroyed buildings in settlements can be very useful
All trash and destroyed houses can be removed from your settlement. Not only will this free up space for larger, more serious projects, but it will also give you plenty of useful materials like steel or aluminum.
Power armor is your friend...
But batteries for it are very expensive. It is better to first explore the area without power armor and, if you see that you cannot do without it, run to a safe place, use fast travel to your settlement and attach the armor. It's also worth noting that running in power armor consumes charge very quickly. And don’t forget that in power armor you can also quietly sneak around and kill on the sly.
Pre-war money has its value and at the same time is garbage
Yes, the exchange rate for pre-war money for caps in Fallout 4 is very high, but, nevertheless, money can be exchanged. However, remember: if you click on the “destroy all garbage” button in the workshop, the money will also disappear - after all, they are also considered garbage in the game.
Critical Strike never misses
If you have a powerful enemy in front of you, whose health can be removed with a critical hit, then take advantage of it. Enter VATS mode and after starting the shooting sequence, press the critical damage button. This technique works especially well when using a sniper rifle against legendary monsters. Moreover, if you deal enough damage to a legendary monster before its health reaches the 50% threshold, it will not begin to mutate and regain its health.
Bursting with opportunities for countless hours in Boston. And survival after the Great War became much more difficult than before. As the site learned, gamers have compiled an impressive list of various tips and tricks that will allow them to cope with this or that task much more effectively.
- Be careful when interacting with non-player characters. If you anger or kill someone, you won't get a second chance to communicate with them.
- The VATS system is capable of detecting mines. And if there are mines nearby, you can easily deactivate them using the system provided by the Fallout 4 developers.
- Stimpaks restore 30% health. You can also replenish your life over a certain period of time by eating.
- To pass the time, you can set the desired waiting period. To do this, you need to find comfortable furniture that does not belong to the player.
- Various pieces of equipment can provide a bonus to the character's basic S.P.E.C.I.A.L. skills. A good idea in Fallout 4 is to have several sets of equipment in stock in order to get the maximum skill value at the right time
- Some items can increase S.P.E.C.I.A.L. above 10.
- The color of the Pip-Boy interface can be changed. The same is true for the color of the flashlight.
Fallout 4 Tricks: Crafting
- Glue can be made from vegetable starch. Starch can be obtained from 3 ears of corn, 3 potatoes, 3 fruits and 1 bottle of purified water. As a result, you can prepare a vegetable paste that can be disassembled into 5 units of glue. In Fallout 4, all vegetables can be grown, and the task of purifying the water can be transferred to Mr. Helper.
- You can store excess water and food in your workbench.
- Handle items such as Deathclaw hands and pre-war money with care - they will splinter into materials if placed on a workbench.
- You can arm your companions or settlement residents with any weapon. To do this, it is enough to transfer it in exchange mode. At the same time, the residents of the settlement will not be able to shoot without ammunition, but one unit of charges will be more than enough for them to fire an infinite number of shots.
- Fast running, enhanced melee attacks and VATS use up the energy of power armor especially quickly.
- Bonuses from standard equipment are completely ignored when using power armor, so you shouldn't rely solely on them
- Remove batteries from armor you are not using. Otherwise someone might steal it.
- Batteries for armor with a minimum energy reserve can be sold. The price will be slightly higher than in the case of completely empty batteries
- Batteries for armor can be stolen from enemies, the site reports. If successful, they will automatically leave it.
- You can move around the Fallout 4 map using fast travel. In this case, battery energy will not be consumed. Moreover, you can also move around with zero battery power.
Fallout 4 tricks. Useful bugs
- Cryolator at the beginning of the game
Dogmeat can bring you a Cryolator. Shortly before leaving Vault 111, there is a Cryolator in a closed container in the Overseer's office. As the site found out, it will not be possible to hack the container at the very beginning of the game, but Dogmeat will remove one of the most powerful guns from the box with dexterity and without any extra effort. Simply ordering is enough.
- Endless S.P.E.C.I.A.L. skills
In the room of Sean, the son of the main character, you can find a book called “You are SPECIAL”, which increases the character’s basic skills. If, before reading, you throw this book under Dog’s nose and order him to take it, but manage to snatch it in front of the dog’s nose, there will be two books. This way you can get an infinite number of bonus points. Works with any objects.
- Large settlements
You can bypass the settlement size limit in Fallout 4, the site reports. To do this, you need to throw away your weapon at the green borders of the settlement and then pick it up using the build mode. The game will think that the player is reducing the size of his base.
- Penetration into enclosed spaces
If you can’t get into the building, but really want to, you need to look through the windows. If there are pieces of furniture nearby, you need to sit or lie on them. Sitting on the sofa, for example, the character will find himself in the house.
- Endless money
Buy all the cartridges of the same type from the seller. Then sell only one unit of that type of ammo back. Then sell him all the remaining ammo again. The number of cartridges in your inventory will not change, unlike the amount of caps in your account. Now you can buy and sell anything within one trading session.
